There are songs that just fit a certain moment in life when, all you want to do,
is forget the world behind you, zone out, or enjoy quiet time
contemplating life and anything else that comes to mind.
These are songs I'd listen to if I was to just walk
by myself in a crowded street, looking at
things and walking around. There has
to be a name for this. I guess the
closest that comes to it is a kind
of walkabout. It's what I want
to do right now, and
moreso with every
-day that passes.
I love my wife
and kids.
Don't
get
me
wrong.
But there's
this aching part
of me that wants
to be alone. To step back,
and stare at the big picture for a while.
To step off the carousel of life, sit on a park bench,
or stroll aimlessly, and think for a while. Here's what I'd listen to while doing this:

How To Save a Life - The Fray (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwR2Ge22Ndg)

Hate Me - Blue October (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qtf-JeaNM8)

Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxXwIIBlSgw)

Nature Boy - David Bowie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAlLBkt21hc)

Circle - Edie Brickell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKCMmcoF1U0)

Unforgiven - Metallica (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cGvzApDZKI)

Lullaby - Billy Joel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nprteZX80tk)

On the Floydian front, even more depressing is:
"Great Gig in the Sky" and "Sorrow"

NIN - "Something I can Never Have" and "And All That Could Have Been"

Marillion - "Sugar Mice" (Original Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIPrJmzG7Ss), live 2007 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnUvQnWZ0u0)) and "Beyond You."

And the phone rings so maybe more later.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow, as sung by Eva Cassidy. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUwTdqPkluY) Wonderfully introspective version.

Vincent, by Don McLean. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dipFMJckZOM) I like the juxtaposition of Van Gogh works here.

Washing Of The Water, by Peter Gabriel. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KudWQUIjvA) Great song, very powerful.

Adagio cantabile, from the Pathetique Sonata by Ludwig von Beethoven. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klZYv-f9kCE) - Very beautiful piano work.

Wow. I almost forgot about this thread.

Great additions guys. Especially Peter Gabriel.

Here's one I'd have to add to my list:

Here Comes The Flood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww9JS8dJ9fY)

And yes, I've yet to take a lone walk to muse and dream along.

Maybe one day.

:OhWell:

I have a soft spot for 80's songs and bands. I guess you could call it my guilty pleasure. But Tears For Fears Greates Hits always puts me in a relaxing mood.

Yes I do, my sexually-charged plutonic friend. :p

I probably wasn't thinking when I posted it. :Dunno:

So, as a peace offering, here's Peter Gabriel's Mercy Street. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoVIU8nb2yY)
