Well, here we are, summer concert season is just around the corner. Anyone got anything good on the list yet? Post pics if you've got 'em!

I just saw the Scissor Sisters in STL, fantastic show, never thought I'd get to see them in concert. Just heard that Hello/Goodbye is coming to Columbia in May, definitely gonna go see them, and planning on seeing Gwen Stefani with Lady Sovereign in Chicago this summer, but don't really know of anything else yet.

On a sidenote, go see Scissor Sisters if you can, they put on a good show. Their opening act is hilarious, it's called Wigs on Sticks, and it's just that, three poles with wigs on top to a 50's/60's Beach-Blanket-Bingo style of music. It's actually pretty funny to watch (it's amazing that the crowd actually shuts up and watches the entire time they're on stage!). I'll post a pic if I can get my phone to upload them.

Edit: And here they are!

Well, I had some concert dreams for this summer, especially with The Police getting back together and all, but they're getting put on the backburner and maybe scrubbed completely what with the woman and I taking it up a notch and looking at buying a condo or townhouse together and me looking seriously at a new job at a new company, etc. We'll see how the money flows.

If I have to operate on a severe budget, does anyone have a show they could recommend?

I am taking Neg Jr. to his first official rock concert next month. We've got tickets to see Ben Folds and I am super-uber-geeked since he's one of my favorite artists and I've never seen him in concert.

Damnit, I'm gonna have to trek to Milwaukee one of these summers, aren't I?

And I don't know if this counts as a concert necessarily, but I'm definitely going to see the touring production of Spamalot this July/Augustish.

And perhaps the touring production of Edward Scissorhands as well in April.

Musicwise...I have no idea. I can't remember the last show I've seen, so I'd say I'm quite due.

I think you will. I'd let you stay at my place and take you to the festival, but I don't think the bf would like that. He is a little paranoid about me meeting people I know from the internet without them sleeping over. :Dunno: Of course, he has no problem taking a few thousand dollars to meet some guy to buy a car or car parts he found on the internet.

Where is Spamalot playing? Is it near you?

When I lived in the Bay Area. I went to a few concerts at the Fillmore. Awesome place to see live performances because it is in such a small place. I saw Santana there years ago.

The Fillmore is a great venue... if you get there a couple hours ahead of time. Otherwise you get stuck behind a lot of people looking at a low stage or you get stuck behind columns at the bar getting shooed around by the tenders and security when all you wanna do is chill at the bar and watch what you can see through an arch. It's not like the bar is even busy after the show starts. The whole thing is just a bit too narrow and a bit too long.

For venues in San Francisco, I prefer The Great American Music Hall (http://www.gamh.com). It's got a high-set stage, a slight downward grade from the back to the front and it's wide as hell with no obstructions in view.

It's playing at the Ordway in St. Paul.

Oh, and no worries about the boyfriend, hehe. I would for sure require saying hello if I'm in town, but I'll compromise and not sleep on your couch, if it'd make him feel better.

And I am hoping, HOPING, to do a mini regional type baseball tour this summer, and I hear Milwaukee has..pretty much the best new stadium in recent memory. (I know, I crack me up too) So that'd be on the agenda even if the Summerfest thing didn't fly.

Deal. Fortunately, the toilets have been fixed after dumping directly (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=578850) into the Milwaukee River for the past 5 years. :OhWell: I won't be joining you at the stadium, though, since I am actively boycotting the Brewers. :Dunno:

Based on what I heard on the news the other night, this is not the only state-of-the-art stadium that has been taking a dump directly into a river for many years.

Heh, Kah, I do recall us having that talk once before. Something about Selig being the world's worst owner/commish as well, if I recall.

But that's for another topic...

I just bought Spamalot tickets for July, and I'm gonna go there to see Edward Scissorhands in April. And considering what these damn things cost, that may be the extent of my summer "concerts"

Selig is something else, and his daughter is 1/2 of that. Yuck. The Brewer's have a new owner now, but they still suck. :Dunno: I'm planning on walking down the the grade school and watching the old guys play softball this summer instead.

Im looking forward to seeing the reunion of Rage Against the Machine here in the bay area. The Roots and a few others are going to be there.

Also Queens of the Stone Age, NIN and hopefully She Wants Revenge will come back here again. Other than that I am not to sure what else is going to be coming out this year, but those are the basics.

Anyone have any suggestions for upcoming rock, alternative or metal concerts coming up?

Family Values tour looks...decent enough this year.

So, the boy and I saw Ben Folds this weekend. The dude can definitely rock the piano, there is no denying it. (I only wish our tickets had been on the left side of the stage instead of the far right, so I could have seen his hands in action.)

It's funny, he didn't play any of the major hits that broke Ben Folds Five back in the 90s (Brick, The Battle of Who Could Care Less), although he did play a few BFF songs, including a couple from that big second album. But you know what? I love his other stuff, so it didn't bug me that he left off the "hits."

He did do "B*tches Ain't Sh*t," although not when the crowd asked him to ("What, do you think I'm your bitch? I'll play what the f*ck I want!"), and he created a piece through crowd improv, which was pretty cool. All in all, we had a great time. I wasn't disappointed hearing him live, and hope to catch another show later on this year. He's actually opening for John Mayer in Detroit (!), but I don't want to see him in a big arena.

I got tickets for Breaking Benjamin/Puddle of Mudd/3 days grace for June 2nd and Kenny chesny in July, but who knows if they (by that i mean the tickets)will be any good. The facility was damaged in the february snowstorm, and has yet to be repaired. They have by a certain date (May 15, i believe)to finish repairs or no concerts period.

I'll be going to this just for Evanescence. But it will be a huge bonus to see Trivium as well.

If I can swing it, Genesis and The Police are on my list for sure.

Going to see the Police would be pretty cool. I heard though, that the concert tickets were in the hundreds, any truth to that? I think someone told me around $250 a peice, and in that case, i shall wait for the DVD of the tour to come out.

I got a good surprise last weekend. Some friends of mine were going to Chicago to see some concerts, and they wound up with some extra tickets, so they invited me to go with them. So I not only got a free trip to Chicago, stayed in a nice-ass 45th floor apartment right on the lake, free food and club entry, but I also got free tickets to see Rufus Wainwright on Saturday (seats no less) and Patti LuPone and Audra McDonald on Sunday (only lawn seats, but still awsesome) at Ravinia. Sweet!!!! One of the best weekends of my life!

Oh, and my mom got me tickets to go see Spamalot for my birthday, and it was friggin hilarious! I didn't know that Sara Ramirez (Callie, George's wife on Grey's Anatomy) originated the role of the Lady of the Lake on Broadway, and she's not only an amazing singer, actress and comedienne, but she won the Tony for it too!
