Hahaha...I know! I'll be on the edge of my seat for that one..Pretty much the same as the Saints-Falcons game from Monday...Oooooooooooooooooooohhh what a game!

I just can't believe Petrino didn't at least TALK to the Falcon players about his decision to leave..

I mean, come one...Just leave them a "letter" as a goodbye? Right...That's professional, Coach.

Further proof that womans is ebil.

Dallas had its fewest yards of the season (240) and didn't score a touchdown for the first time since November 2004. Romo finished 13-of-36 for 214 yards, with a career-low rating of 22.2. It came in front of his parents and his newest A-list girlfriend -- Jessica Simpson, who tugged the front of her pink No. 9 jersey, then mouthed the word "Romo!" when cameras spotted her. For what it's worth, Romo's previous worst rating came last December against Philadelphia when then-girlfriend Carrie Underwood was here.

Updating the Pick'em standings. Not much time left to catch Droogie....

1 Droogie 154
2 Chiefs Better Not Suck 150
3 Neglet's Picks 148
4 Dr. DigIt 129 + 11 = 140
4 Dr. Worm 140
6 kah 138
7 Omicron's Brew Crew 135
8 Rappites 129
9 Umbrella <conceded>

And guess who ended the regular fantasy season 2.5 games ahead of anyone else? :D

I figured I should gloat now, because I lost my TE and two RBs this week, and everyone knows Peyton Manning won't play the whole game the last two weeks. Oh, and because I'll be out of the country, away from internet access, during the last weekend of play, so I'll have no idea how things ended up.

At least I have no worries about the Lions. They're officially out. But I should've known that at the start of the season. :p

There's just no way to take the hex off of that.

Bryant Gumbel seems to make a lot of errors when calling the game. He's called Frank Gore "Al Gore" numerous times over the course of 3 primetime games, two weeks ago, he kept plugging the game by saying "Welcome to our broadcast of Thursday Night Football" when it was actually their first Saturday Night game..The guy must have said it four times during the game..I kept wondering why nobody would correct him on it. Last week, he actually said.."Tony Romeo" instead of "Tony Romo". Not surprised he called them "the Cubs". He also puts me to sleep at times.

Which takes me into another subject..

Is it just me or does CBS games always look like grainy-poorly filmed productions? Why do they continue to get boring announcers? Why are their games constantly fuzzy? I understand CBS being a channel that caters to a different crowd but they make even exciting AFC matchups seem tedious to watch..and it's always bothered me.

Cannot....believe...that the Browns lost to the Bengals this weekend. Saying nothing to the fact that Derek Anderson (My Fantasy QB) threw up four interceptions when I'm playing Negs this weekend but I cannot believe the Browns threw their playoff fates into the grinder by falling flat against the...Bengals?

Now, they need to rely on the Titans losing to the Colts when the Colts have nothing to play for next week, i.e sit the players out if they want to...

Same goes for the Vikings...Vikings and Browns..all they needed to do is win this weekend and they failed.

Joe Gibbs continues to be a great coach though. All the shit they've gone through and he still keeps them going..

I will not be here for the last game, so someone else will have to post final results. Don't forget to give "Dr. DigIt" 11 more points for the week he made his picks in this thread.

Actually, I'll be gone for so long I'll not only miss the last game (and discovering the sixth seed in the playoffs), but also the first round of playoffs. And all the college bowl games. I won't have a clue until we get back into the country on the 9th.

Right now, I'll make a prediction: that New England better watch out for Jacksonville. That the Vikings will choke and the Redskins become the NFC sixth seed. And that the NFC games will be boring in comparison to the AFC games.

It just makes you want to cry. Poor Cleveland! They're one of my favorite underdog teams.

Here's some stuff I culled today over at NFL.com. I hope it's accurate.

AFC Standings

East - New England has clinched the Division Title & home field advantage
North - Pittsburgh has clinched the Division Title
South - Indianapolis has clinched the Division Title – First Round Bye
Jacksonville has clinched Wild Card slot
West- San Diego has clinched the Division Title

Wild Card Notes: Tennessee needs to beat Indianapolis to stay in.
If Tennessee loses, they are out and Cleveland is in.

NFC Standings

East – Dallas has clinched the Division Title & home field advantage
NY Giants has clinched a Wild Card slot
North - Green Bay has clinched the Division Title – First Round Bye
South - Tampa Bay has clinched the Division Title
West – Seattle has clinched the Division Title

Wild Card Notes: Minnesota needs to beat Denver and Redskins to lose.
New Orleans needs Minnesota and Redskins to lose.

I see we're all picking San Diego here..and that kills me inside even if I know they'll win.

After seeing Phillip Rivers act like a total assclown to the Broncos two weeks ago..talking smack in the 4th quarter when the Broncos were already frustrated at themselves, I know Rivers is on my "Just shut Up" list...He's topping the list in fact.

Totally respect Norv and LT on the Chargers..but Rivers is a bastard and I wouldn't mind seeing the Titans beat them...Oh well though, it's about picking the winners..and not who you want to win..

DarkJedi

lol 0-2. Omi was the only winner out of the second game..

And I would seriously like to throw out the first "What...the...hell..were you thinking?!?" question of the playoffs.

Alright...Pitt comes back from an 18 point deficit by being aggressive...By Ben unloading the ball to his two throw-to guys (Ward and Heath)....They march..they score..

They take a 1 point lead..

Jacksonsville gets the ball back with 4+ minutes..Pitt stops them...Four and out..They get the ball back with 3:20 left in the game..

So..Pitt has the ball right..They have a 1 point lead...They control their own destiny..

What do they do?

Run...Run...Draw run...Punt....

???????

With a 1 point lead, after a quarter of quick scores..What's up with that one, folks? I'm not even a Steelers fan but I couldn't believe they did that. They only have a 1 point lead and they're going to give the ball back to Jacksonville so they can control their destiny??

Strange decision making by the Steelers OC, Big Ben and Mike Tomlin there.

Time to cut hay.....

AFC
Lowest remaining AFC seed @ NEW ENGLAND
Highest remaining AFC seed @ INDIANAPOLIS

NFC
Winner of Giants/Tampa Bay game @ DALLAS
SEATTLE @ GREEN BAY

Divisional Playoffs January 12-13
Conference Championship January 20

Super Bowl
February 3

Anyhoo... A quick "what if" question for you guys: If two teams have the same record, how do they determine who is the highest seed? Does it become a matter of total points? Before or including the playoffs? Or is there some other way?

Just curious, thanks. :D

sickness
01-06-2008, 03:40 PM
There's a 15-step process ending in a coin-toss if all else is tied. I forget the details but I believe the first few are season W-L record (tied in this case, so it doesn't count), then head-to-head (if they're in the same division this can easily be a tie by virtue of splitting 2 games, if they're not in the same division then it can be a tie only by virtue of a tied head-to-head matchup), followed by conference record, then division record (I think).

Beyond that, I've forgotten what comes next but I know points total offense, point differentials and common opponents all come into play at some point as does the nebulous strength-of-schedule.

NFL.com ain't exactly coughing up the seeding rules, though.

EDIT: I just found this (http://home.earthlink.net/~ob1gui/nflrules.htm). I make no claim to its accuracy but it does seem rather detailed. It's a good start, anyway.

ACCCCK! The sound of us choking on bile. That was in my opinion a horribly run game. Yeah, you run for the 2 point conversion, but not when you've been backed up to the 12 yrd line. Then you kick a field goal. This so called chart that they use is ridiculous. And, exactly what has been brought up. You have a 1 point lead. Do you run the ball, which is ineffective? No, you gain yardage and stay in bounds after the pass. And, what the hell was Ty Carter doing, holding the door for Garrard?

They didn't deserve it and they sure as hell weren't going to beat New England next week with that piss poor performance. It's probably better that they aren't going any further. They need to heal and Ben needs to learn how not to LOFT the ball into triple coverage!

It's just sad that Faneca will leave. I think he deserves the money and even though he went through that whole contract dispute, he took the high road and played his heart out despite it all.

In all honesty, with the amount of injuries the Steelers had, and with how absolutely god awful our offensive line has been playing, I'm surprised that we even stayed in the game. Hopefully, some of the play calling kinks will be worked out in the off season and maybe we'll get some better o-line guys as well.

On the whole though, I have to say that I really think Ben is starting to become a true star player. To be able to still be one of the top QBs in the league with how many times he was hurried and sacked this year is remarkable. Even if some of those sacks could have been avoided if he'd have thrown the ball away.

My wife brought up a good point. After like the third interception she commented that this has been the QB MO in Pittsburgh. Champ to Chump inside of 2-3 seasons.

Kordell came along and brought a surge of energy and freshness to the role, then he started to falter and his performance suffered. Enter Tommy Maddox, although not the typical model for a starting QB, he swooped in and gave us a great season. Then, he too began to lose his luster. Along comes Big Ben. He's young, he's fresh, he's likeable, and he's accomplished a lot in a very short time.

I just hope she's wrong, because as much as I love Charlie Batch, I wouldn't want to hang next season on him and I think Kevin Colbert and Company aren't looking to draft a QB, they need some OL and Special Teams help.

If they continue their hurries against Brett's o-line, he could end up running...scrambling...which could take him out of his game.

Honestly I could see the Jints pulling off the upset. It's hard to beat a team 3 times in a season, they are playing hot and with confidence, the Cowboys haven't played well since GB game, TO is limited, Romo's brain isn't getting enough oxygen because all the blood's in his pant due to Jessica Simpson, the residual stupidity of spending time with her hindering his own intellect, team seems to be overconfident, Wade "good ole boy" Philips' 0-3 playoff record.

There's plenty of things that make me think it could happen.

NO DAMNIT, I will not talk myself in betting against them. DAMNIT the football gods owe me after watching my Buckeyes get ground into a fine paste the second goddamn year in a row by a team full of bayou hillbillies that can't even spell SEC.

Well, both home teams...both favorites won Saturday so any surprise will have to wait until tomorrow. Green Bay's defense really stepped up. 2 early fumbles had them down 14-0 in the beginning of that snowstorm..errr...game...And Seattle just scored 6 points for the rest of the 50 gametime minutes.

Jacksonville held up well against NE as well but like any other team (minus Baltimore's game), they just proved too much in that 4th quarter.

However, CBS coverage still sucks. It wasn't the picture, it was the sound. The whole second half had some metallic reverb to it that sounded like choppers were hovering over the field at the start of every play and drove me further insane (as we are all Maniacs here, I was already on that bus).

Granted, the Giants won 3 on the road but they ain't the 05 Steelers.
They aren't even the '04 Steelers, who won my heart that year.

I have to root for the Giants too, even though I think they'll lose. NE is the NFL's dreadnaught this year.

Did it seem like it to anyone else that Brady just did not seem into the game at all? The entire game he just looked out of it...

Yeah, he didn't seem like his old, consistent self- maybe somebody spiked his Gatorade...

Congrats to the Giants fans- I am slightly happy that the NFC has finally beat the AFC in the SB- I hope this trend continues.

It happened for 12 straight years, what more do you want?

I am also happy that Eli is finally out of the shadow of his brother's ring. I am also happy that he got MVP. He deserved it. I never would have thought that stone handed walking stick Burress (aka Clifford Franklin) would have made a catch. Of course, he all the the time in the world and plenty of space to do it.

Bellicheck leaves the field before the final play. Good for you, cheater. You ain't the 72 Dolphins.

I would've liked to see the perfect season, but the Giants defense just flat outplayed the Patriots' O-Line. I'd imagine the main reason Tom Brady didn't look like himself was because he kept getting chased and hit and crunched into the turf.

Oh, and I had the magic square Patriots 4, Giants 7. I was so involved in the game's last few minutes that I didn't realize I'd won $125 until after the game was over.

I'm very happy for the Giants, boy that was an unbelieveable game.

Before the game I thought Brady looked a little tense, but other than that I think the real shocker was how low scoring that game was.

At least they'll be no more Mannings in the NFL for awhile. Archie can shut up now. Peyton can stop doing commercials. Eli can bask in the limelight a little, then go away.

And Tom Brady can suck more turf and a bitter pill as he waits for another 5 months to start the journey again.

:goodbye: to the record.

So was it me or did the Super Bowl commercials this year not seem as funny? In years past, I seemed to laugh my hiney off at the commercials, but not this time.

Is this a sign of our sliding economy? First thing to go in commercials (in general) were celebrities. Then this year, mostly big ticket items like cars seemed to be advertised in the Super Bowl. Hardly any commercials for cheap stuff like soda pop, chips, fast food joints, and the like.

What do you think?

Side note: I'm already football jonesin'. I watched "The Replacements" the other day and was muttering things like "What down is it? What's the &%$#@ score?"

Pathetic. :(

Yes, they did suck this year. I wonder if it's evidence of a strike? I don't know when those commercials are written and filmed, so I can't be sure.

Goodell to meet with Specter Wednesday to discuss Spygate (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3242944)

Ok I have a question. How the hell is this ANY of Arlen Specter or Congress' business? :headscratch:

If I was Goodell, I'd tell him to shove it. It was an internal matter and it was handled. It's not like the Roger Clemens issue, where there is illegal things going on. This is just "cheating". Should Congress look into pitchers using spitballs, or wide receivers using stick'em on their gloves?

Stupid politicians and their grandstanding.

The sucky ads had nothing to do with the strike (I don't think ad copywriters are union), and everything to do with the sucky economy. Advertisers played it safe, going for "kindler, gentler" ads less likely to offend people--and less likely to be memorable.

At least the game was exciting to watch.

If you think about it though, the ads sucked this year, but the game was actually great.

I think Specter is looking for another magic bullet. If anything else, Goodell screwed up with his original punishment, since the Patriots circumvented their draft pick removal by trading with, I believe, the Redskins. He should have made them 17-1 as well and been done with it.

It's totally Congress' business. It's called trying to fix a sporting event whose outcome is supposed to be up to the ability of the players and coach on that given day and it IS illegal. There's a lot of money that rides on it and on the assumption that it is played out in a relatively fair manner. A lot of money has been lost on good teams who went up against the Pats, even teams they shouldn't have beaten or should have had a much harder time doing it to.

And I agree Sicks...A big Fuck You to San Diego.

Not only am I saying that as a Chiefs fan and a division rival but as a hater towards anyone named Phillip "Big Ego" Rivers.

I RESPECT the Broncos...We've battled it out for two decades now..They were down..They were out...Jake Cutler was frustrated at the end of the season and yelling out at his offensive line..and Phillip "Big Effing Ego" Rivers was talking shit from the opposite sideline for what reason?!?!?

Phillip's not even that effing good. Not enough to talk shit to a team already frustrated with themselves...He had a good defense, a good RB (LT), a good Tightend and good Wide out core...He has no room to talk smack..

For Phillip Rivers, I vote the "Please injure the bastard" award to for the year of 2008.

So, I agree...."Fuck you, San Diego!"

I totally agree- the NFL is sport, not national security. The Federal Government has become so bloated and monstrous that now they are the authority on everything.
