-You have to believe that magic is cool.

-You have to believe that hot chicks/hunks would be turned on by your mind, wit, and sexual skills if they ever got to know you.

-You have to believe that popularity is for kids and only kids.

-You have to invent science (evolution through super-power enhancing mutations, wormhole technology, warp drive, etc.).

-You have to believe in "series continuity" (but only until the writers change it for no reason, of course).

-You have to believe that bullies who tease you lack vision.

-You have to SAY you're against the Dark Side of the Force but then secretly cheer when Anakin turns in Episode III.

-You have to believe you will get laid eventually.

-You have to believe that Yoda is intelligent, is always truthful, and is a kickass fighter even though half the time he is a CGI effect and the other half of the time he has a man's hand up his butt.

-You have to believe that "dead" doesn't mean dead. (For example: Spock, Daniel Jackson, Jean Grey, Angel, etc.)

-You have to believe that a letter-writing campaign can save a show from being cancelled as long as you find more of your kind to sign the dotted line. (You know they're out there.)

-You have to believe that since YOU can afford the DVD sets of every season of every science fiction show that you like, everyone else should buy the sets too. They won't make more show unless you buy the old shows on DVD!

-To sum up, you have to believe completely that by enhancing a childlike fairy tale with scientific and/or magical jargo, the story becomes respectible, prefectly fine for an adult to buy into. (This includes the action figures.)

Did you say action figures? What just a minute. Let me see if I can find a picture. I will be right back.

Does this include cast resin statues and vinyl figures of Japanese movie monsters?

Or a 28" wide model of the C-57d Spacecruiser from Forbidden Planet, equipped with aftermarket LED lights?

Or a 12" replica of the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space (tv show, NOT movie), special edition (limited run of 5000) chrome finish, with aftermarket add-ons including battery operated led lights to simulate fusion core reactor, and properly modeled pilot seats that resembled the actual ones on the show more closely?

Oh yeah, I am soooooooo a geek. I even have like 4 lightsabers, a talking Yoda, an electronic R2-D2 that follows commands.

I also have 12" action figures customized based on my own character designs. Yeah, knowing people rules.

Speaking of which, I went to Costco today and saw that every X-Files season is $25! I can afford that! I will soon own them ALL!!!! And then I will make everyone watch them...

Damn you! I've been watching the stupid ads for X-Files seasons, because they are regularly priced at 42 bucks, and go on sale for 22. I made the mistake of not buying them all when they were on sale, so I still need 3-9.

Costco is the bomb! They have 24 box-sets for $31.00, and Sopranos for $30.00...

Sopranos for $30.00!!!! Thank god i have not started that in my collection. I need to get one of these...Costco cards.

I got a Costco card, but only used it once. They never have any cool stuff when I go in.

Have your movie collection in alphabetical order from #'s to Z

SinisterPryde
05-20-2007, 10:33 PM
Actually. list them in alphabetical from #-Z, but chronological from the first movie (i.e. Army of Darkness after Evil Dead 2).

Be able to quote at least Monty Python and the Holy Grail and three Mel Brooks films (usually Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and Space Balls)

You went out with me from 1998-2002.

I went on a geek-dating rampage for about 5 years.

These are the byproducts of those dark times:
1) I've been to midnight showings of Star Wars, X-Men, and Spidey, with people who "dressed" for the occasion.
2) I have a kick-ass computer with little purchased for it.
3) I have irc-ed and icq-ed.
4) I'm nearly fluent in l33t.
5) I have purchased my own comic books (Askewniverse- Oni Press stuff, and some graphic novels)
6) I don't like Dr. Pepper and Pringles anymore.
7) I didn't pay my phone bill on time so I could afford a motel room in Charlotte so I could see the Ep.I trailer that was in front of a midnight showing of "The Waterboy."

Arranging your DVDs alphabetically from #s to Z is nothing. When you have your DVDs arranged alphabetically from #s to Z within the confines of GENRE, with around seven genres, and one of the genres being "Bruce Campbell", then you're in my league.

Bill_the_Pony
05-21-2007, 10:00 AM
Then, there's Genres and SUB genres.

Not only do I have Science Fiction, but I keep Japanese sci-fi with Japanese Scifi, and Italian Horror together in Horror. Special Directors get a section too, like Lynch.

My LOTR extended box sets are kept together by the two Argonoth statue bookends that came with the FOTR gift set of the extended edition. :)

The only time I have a problem arranging DVDs was the Highlander films. I couldn't decide which of the sequels needed to go in the garbage first. :D

Still Crazy
05-21-2007, 01:02 PM
:headscratch: yikes.

I do dress for the occasions, well at least SW and LoTR.
I still have my original SW VHS tapes when I taped the movies off the TV, way before they came out on VHS, much less DVD.
I know what a fone phreak, and that's pretty damn old
I think that one must know how to spell one's name in binary to be a true geek.
I have the Elrond action figure fighting the Luke action figure. :p

I'll post up a picture of my bookshelf tomorrow maybe... around me right now... not so geeky... homework, work paperwork, collage applications, Wuthering Heights.

I just need to clean up my desk a bit to unveil further geekyness. I do have a shrine to Boba Fett though. I can see that.

Oh, and... is that magic like...

I summon a magic missile or Magic: The Gathering?

I suppose they both work.

I tap 6 mountains and cast fireball to deal you five damage, lawl.

EDIT AGAIN: While walking the fine line between nerd and geek...

Zero Won (www.myspace.com/zerowon01)

Yeah, I'm cool. I know the band.

I think that one must know how to spell one's name in binary to be a true geek.

Okay, what if I created a whole quilted wall hanging around a binary theme? For fun I decided to try a contest where they send you a packet of 6 fabrics and you make a small quilt. I saw 1s and 0s in a fabric, and worked them into the pattern. You can't see it, but all the quilting is 1s and 0s. And I quilted the borders so it said "Keepsake Quilting Challenge" with my initials and the year ALL IN BINARY.

I didn't win a prize. I don't think they got it.:headscratch:

Thats pretty trippy, and cool. Quick question, what is the difference between a geek and a nerd? Here's a link from a previous tread that can help you determine if you are a Geek, Nerd or Dork (http://www.mania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2520&highlight=geek+nerd) or you can take the test here (http://www.okcupid.com/tests/take?testid=9935030990046738815) :D
