1. Ah!My Goddess(TV) - just fun so far after picking up the first volume
2. Steel Angel Kurumi - One of the trippiest series and yet, just a good time for all.
3. Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 - I picked up this series on a whim, and i can't put it down. Hot Chicks + Mech suits + Rock Music = Sold.
4. Full Metal Alchemist = Can't get enough of it, on tv or dvd.
5. Ghost in the Shell :Sac and 2nd gig - Both series are good, but both do have the occasional hit or miss. Tachikomatic days comes to mind.
So what are you guys watching....

1. Noir - I love the action and the story. I've watched through this collection like 10 times now.
2. Bubblegum Crisis 2040 - I still wish they would have done 2041. Oh, well.
3. Steel Angel Kurumi - I liked the first series a lot, the second was okay.
4. Full Metal Panic! - This series is a lot of fun for me.
5. Excel Saga - Funny stuff here. However, a bit of advice: If you're trying to turn someone on to anime, don't start with this one. BIG mistake.
I'm still waiting to get my hands on Madlax and 2nd Gig.

I've read the manga, and it'd friggin hilarious! Haven't gotten a chance to watch the anime yet, but I agree, anime beginners might not take to it very quickly...
I'm watching a couple right now
1. Vandread - Tale of a future where men and women live in seperate societies and are at war. 3 men and a group of women pirates are thrown together on a living ship on the far side of the galaxy, and must make it home to warn both sides of an inhuman menace. Pretty cool, the characters are a lot of fun (plus the most sex metaphors I've seen in an anime) It's in my On-Demand, so I've gotta wait a week between episodes.
2. Cowboy Bebop - I've usually got this on in the background when I'm bored. My favorite anime of all time. Hope they put all these new "remixed" DVDs in a box set, I've just got the three-disc perfect collection right now...
3. Lupin the III - God I just LOVE this show.
4. Inuyasha - I go through phases where I'll be completely addicted, then not watch it at all. Guess I better start watching it again since I read that at the end of the year there won't be anymore episodes to show on Adult Swim!
I wanna know when they're gonna release a Gundum Wing complete series box set, or does it already exist? That was the only Gundum show I really got into (other than G Gundum, don't ask me why...).

Gundam Wing: Complete Operations (Clicky)
I think I'm gonna get this too, since I've only got the series on VHS (I tapped it off of the dvds lol)
I was watching some of Dragonball GT, but it's just not the same as Z.
Other than that, my anime watching has been severly limited, since I'm stuck with Canadian cable. (No Cartoon Network for us poor Canucks :( ) So if I want anime, I must buy it, which can definately put a big hole in your wallet.
-Lord Scythe-
(Sad to say, that on a recent trip to LA, the highlight was not Disneyland, Six Flags or Knott's Berry, but the fact the Hotel had Cartoon Network :o )

Hey tony, i cant argue with gundam wing complete. 2 new split sets coming out, in addition to 2 split sets of g gundam as well. I have a soft spot for the au gundam series of the 90's.
as for Bubblegum crisis i got my hands on the series for 15$ during the last adv clearence sale, and it just plays to the fun.
I'm watching evangelion on adult swim, as i've never really got past the first few episodes. I find myself captivated and almost tempted to watch the horrors of death, rebirth, and end of evangelion once the series ends.
I did hear that Funimation and adult swim should be airing and releasing the FUll Metal Alchemist movie this summer, supposedly.

For what it's worth, my sons have been trying to get into Zatch Bell and One Piece.
I'm doing my best to steer them away from them. I just don't get the whole craze.

Bumping back to the top.
Recently bought Kiddy Grade. Pretty good series that is a bit cliche', but they build a solid series with all the twists and mysteries. Also got my Hands on Rune Soldier and Azumanga Daioh! . If anything, ill need a lot time to watch the stuff.

I've heard nothing but good things about Kiddy Grade. Definately need to check it out sometime.
Right now, Gundam Wing. I did cave and buy the Complete Operations DVD set, so I'm enjoying going through it. I've actually never seen alot of the English Uncut version, only an episode here and there, and I'm quite pleased with it (Although, I've seen the uncut Japanese version like a hundred times lol)

Kiddy Grade's English dub is pretty good. Eclair is voiced by the lady who does Riza Hawkeye on Full Metal Alchemist, and ADV regular Monica Rial does Lumiere.
I got the series in File Format, which means 2 dvd's per set for 4 sets altogether.
I got to look to see if Adv still has Nadesco, hopefully in thinpack format.
Right now I am watching..
1. Evangelion: Its ok, interesting, hugely pretentious though. I only see new episodes every couple of weeks (thanks to On Demand) but am in no rush with this.
2. Full Metal Alchemist. This otoh, I absolutely love. I got it off of netflix and its fabulous, just finished the 3rd dvd. I love the characters, the story, everything.

Do we have that on DVD here in the US? I've never seen it at the store. They showed it on TCM when they did their Miyazaki month (he didn't direct it, but had a hand in it), and it automatically became one of my favorite animes ever, which is interesting because it's not what you'd think a typical anime would be. There are no fantasy elements at all, just the story about a woman remembering her childhood. For some reason, I felt very content after watching it, it's a great pick-me-up. Highly recommended!
Oh, and I'm working on Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, and I just finished the movie Appleseed, which, I have to say, is lacking in the story department, but it's visually stunning, and it has an interesting soundtrack.

Due to some problem at Disney, it will eventually get released. The last administartation at Disney had an issue with some of the content, and thats why there was no dub for it

How could they have a problem with the content? It's as tame as their animated films. What, they're upset at the lack of cute singing animals? Damn suits!! :angry

whoo, first post!
anyway. anime i'm watching now is:
Saiyuki - love sanzo, he's brillant. which led me on to watch saiyuki reload, it's not as good as the first, the voices aren't the same, no david matranga!
Orphen - (matranga again) i've only watched the first couple of episodes but liking it so far.
Chrono Crusade - fantasic, the animation is brillant, as is the story.
Bubblegum crisis 2040 - am also watching this one, only seen 2 eps so not really into it yet.
Kyo Kara Maoh - just finished vol 9, bring on the next!
Neon gensis evangelion - started of quite normal, but lost it towards the end, i'm still not sure what was going on in the last episode.
Yu Gi Oh - been watching this for ages now, it just keeps going and going. on ep 196, not long to go.
Have finished watching get backers, inu yasha and kenshin (samurai x the tv series) loved all of them.
i think thats it.

I got a full plate for a while.
Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid(Perfect blend of the first two series, completely serious and action-packed with the right amount of humor)
Bleach(Not a bad dub so far, and its getting better every week. And with the new cast members(Kyle Hebert, Wally Wingert) announced it should get real fun)
.hack//sign(Trying to rewatch it. I missed some of it the first time around and was lost at the end, but I'm catching what i missed. I'm also playing the (horrible) games.)
Le Chevalier D'eon (Think Ghost in the shell SAC +Kenshin +The French Revolution= A Murder mystery, a conspiricy, and a lot of magic and action)(And thats the easiest way to describe it with no spoilers)

Saving up my time so a to enjoy a blast of Laputa: Castle in the Sky (the 'Streamline' dub).
Currently, I'm watching Tokyo Godfathers, Neo Genesis Evangelion, and just finished the last Appleseed movie.
Will one day get round to watchin Only Yesterday. It is still in its plastic wrapper. :D

You need to rip that plastic wrapper off, man! Only Yesterday is a fantastic movie! May be my #1 Miyazaki movie, still trying to decide that one.
Just finished Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 (not bad, not great, but not bad) and Vampire Hunter D.

Nadia & the blue water
I found this dvd at 99 cent store I guess it was close out ? something.
anyways it was english dubbed, it only has three ep's
but I think I could not stomach entire series
I little over the top, for me.
but The last three ep's summed up great ending story
once again Humans were genetically engineered by aliens.
The Proto - Humans were; interesting from what you could see of them.
The giant one was frigging cool.

i just finished Highlander: the search for vengence it was meh. difficult stylization and [the look] didnt "fit" with the highlander movies despite their efforts. Still a valiant effort considering the LAST time Highlander was animated (ouch)

can anyone recommend a recent anime movie thats good?
we watched Paprika in theaters, quite good. I've seen Steamboy and wasnt impressed... and also the one with Noah's Ark (what WAS that flick called?)
i loved Jinroh: Wolf Brigade and Metropolis is my #1 favorite (non Miazaki) anime flick
and I've seen GITS and Howls moving castle (and almost all the Miazaki flicks) and Wings of Honneamise too (great flick)
still contend that Akira isnt the Godfather of Anime that everyone seems to think it is, and that Agent Akia: Naked Missions and Final Battle are the greatest "anime soft-core" Henti that i've even laid eyes on!! too bad they are discontinued.

It's not really recent, but Perfect Blue is pretty good. Pretty trippy.

07-18-2007, 08:40 PM
i think I own the video for Perfect Blue, its from Paprika and Tokyo Godfathers
originally, i remember critisizing it because it could have been made cheaper if done live action, there was nothing really in Perfect Blue that needed it to be animated. But since then, its grown on me... its a good flick.
has anyone else but me seen a short (53 minute) anime called Black Lion - its set in Samurai/Ninja feudal japan (Ninja Scroll/Wrath of the Ninja) vs Terminator where the terminator is the Samurai. It almost appears to be a pilot anime for a series that either wasnt produced or wasnt shipped stateside.. it would be cool if there were more than the one short anime for it but this one is all i've ever seen.
other cool little gems are Maddox 01, Outlanders, Appleseed, Black Magic M-66
KingVoyeur
07-20-2007, 09:39 AM
Black Magic M-66 was interesting. How is Paprika? It's playing here until next Wednesday and I was wondering if it's good enough to go shell out 7 bucks to see it in theater.
Immortal1982
07-21-2007, 08:04 AM
Its pretty solid. Megumi Hayashibara(If you ever watched any anime, you've heard her voice) plays (both) her role(s) perfectly, and you just feel into the story. It's a bit of Dreamscape meets Paranoia Agent, but it works perfectly in the animated medium.
I'm trying to finish up Maharomatic Season 1, and i just got (I my Me) Strawberry Eggs for 10 dollars. I also got Saber Marionette J to X for 15$, so i got a full plate for the week if the weather gets like they say.

Paprika is definitly worth $7 admission... dont miss it in its final week! its from the guys that did Tokyo Godfathers, so of course when the caracters in the movie pass an old theater its got the poster for Tokyo Godfathers on the wall... classic.

I just watched 5cm per Second (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5_Centimeters_Per_Second). That movie is truly beautiful. If you've ever seen The Place Promised in our Early Days orVoices of a Distant Star, It's the same director. ADV films and Warner Bros. are supposed to be releasing it Theatrically later in the year.

Wrath of the Ninja comes close. I've always considered Ninja Scroll to be in the feudal-era Japan ninja fighting genre, Personally I prefer the giant robot genre....
there are some pretty good titles in the ninja era genre... you just have to seek them out.

Has anyone seen an anime called Urotsukidoji? Also known as Legend of the Overfiend? I know it's supposed to be crazy violent and sexual, in fact when I worked at Suncoast we had a copy of it but weren't allowed to sell it! I've seen a few clips on YouTube and have volumes 1 & 3 on my Netflix (volume 2 has apparently been banned), but I was wondering if anyone out there had actually seen it.
