I was just curious as to how everyone found out about Mania or Cinescape, which ever you prefer. I mean, we all got here somehow and I think it is a good way to let us new people know how the hell you got here...

I know the reason I came here is because I used to buy the Cinescape magazine all the time. Hell, I still got ones that date back to '96. And then when there sister magazine Wicked came out, I still got about two copies of those.

Did any of you guys buy the magazine, is that why you heard about this place, or what??

I googled Asylum and found this place.

:)

Seriously, Outy (my husband) has been posting with these crazy ass people for years. So, I told him I was bored at home with the kids. Since we only had one t.v. and the kids took it over with their cartoons and crap. So, he said come here and I am sure they will take you under their wing.

I have been posting here for almsot a year. And it has been a lot of fun. Made some good friends.

I never heard of Cinescape before.

I posted on Coming Attractions. I remember the CA boards were still around quite a while after the merger was announced, and a lot of people stopped posting on CA even though it stuck around for quite a while afterwards. Then it finally closed...:(

Also a product of Corona or Coming Attractions. I didn't really like Cinescape because it just seemed so cluttered compared to CA which had very simple and clean design so I basically just hung back and read the news and all that and just lurked on the boards. It was only pretty recently that I joined. I wonder how many CAers post here to some capacity. The regulars here seem to be composed a lot of CAers.

I hung on at CA until the bitter end. Then I still resisted coming here because it was just too.... well, I don't remember, but then I gave in because I missed Jake and Bill and Adam and Boki and... well, everyone. I miss a lot of other people that are no longer around. :(

Heh. I guess with me there was sort of a feeling of ... "selling out" when the merger happened which really didn't make any sense but there you go. Right at the very end, CA became pretty insular.

Ditto. I was not happy with the layout of Cinescape after the merger...CA was so simple and easy. I still remember the day I tried to log on to the CA forums and saw the "FORUMS CLOSED" sign. :( I reluctantly came here, to tell the truth. I am happy I did though, this place can be a lot cooler most of the time. Back at CA everything was too PC. You couldn't even go off-topic without having a thread closed down.

To answer your question Death, I joined Mania through Cinescape which came after CA which I joined because of the Insomnia contest which I came in third place in. I got a cool hat and poster in the mail. The hat never fit so I gave it to my dog.

I was a CA guy too...I had often visited the main Corona site for movie news, and started using the boards when they ran a contest. I can't remember which movie it was, or what the prize was, but the contest was to pick a line from another movie that would have been a great catchphrase for Arnold Schwarzenegger. My submission was "Put the bunny back in the box" from Con-Air. I didn't win, but I stuck around, even after the move to Cinescape. I got tired of the constant bickering in there, mostly involving some French dude that I'm sure everyone else has completely forgotten and started posting at Cinescape regularly only about a week before CA folded. I was asutbone at CA, for anyone who remembers.

hmm... I've drifted from AICN over to Corona, CA and Dark Horizons, eventually abandoning the threads at Moviola, which are STILL linked to my website to this day. Eventually winding up at cinescape HOWEVER only posting under the news articles not in the threads or creating new threads.

I dont think I was big into posting in the threads section while it was Cinescape, just under the news stories.

i dont think I have any cinscape mags, however I own lots of old Starlog and Fangoria magazines from way back in the day ( like when it didnt cost a friggin gold mine to buy one!!) I'm talking 1980 - 1990ish

I came by Mania through cinescape. I don't remember how I ever found cinescape online. However, I have visited the cinescape website for many years. At least since 1998 or so. Then it morphed in Mania.com. So now I'm here.

I came over from Cinescape, too. I ended up there because of Tstone and Kradey and some unpleasantness at another message board where we used to post.

I like it here much better!! Here there actual discussions and there aren't any Nazi moderators who shut down your fun just because they don't understand it.

ahhhhh.....the memories. I was a Corona poster cuz of the Lord of the Rings movies. Even before the first one came out, the hype and excitement were great. And the discussions about how closely P.J. adhered to the books. That forum was rockin packed. Then the switch to cinescape came....I saw no reason to go over, but Strider (bless him) encouraged me and made it so easy I finally gave in. He wanted everybody who was there to make the change. Since the LotR triilogy was a 3 year deal, there was still lots of discussions going on.

I never came into "the lounge" as it was called then. Those guys were rough. It was like a war zone lots of the time. I mean you could get your head bit off if you posted something that wasn't pc. or if you listened to Rush. We had some big time wars in those days, with spider and leiter being the leading voices of conservative republican right ideology and almost everybody else hating on them......in a loving kind of way :Smirk: It was kind of like a wild fire raging out of control and finally came to a head when a "BAN" came down from upper management. Things have gotten much calmer since those days. I kinda miss em.......sometimes, even though I had to pick buck shot outta my arse on more than one occasion.

Came here from Cinescape. Two months after the magazine was released...I checked out its website in April or May of 1996. I found it pretty damn cool. Signed up at its mvpforums here at the site and been there since. Met Monic a year later and I believe Os and Greyman were here as well...though Os was under a different name. I think maybe....Daforce was here then also though I can't remember for sure..

Obviously there's been a lot of changes since then.

Harris and Hockensmiith sold the Cinescape magazine and property to Fandom(same owner as Mania) in 99 and for a time, the domain name was changed from Cinescape.com to Fandom.com. Then around half a year later, Fandom went down and Cinescape was brought back online in 00, just owned by Mania now. Daforce was definitely here around here...I remember him getting banned twice in a day by Aaron in 01 or 02 . lol

It created a lot more changes...and started to come back with new people.

Then in 03, Mania hired Patrick Sauriol and his Coming Attractions to come aboard the site and...

It created even more changes...and yet again new people I didn't know came in...

Then on October 31, 2006, the owner opted to shelve the Cinescape name for a while and turn it into Mania whiich is fine...We're a bunch of Maniacs anyway. Ciners....Maniacs...what's the difference really.

The rest is history.

I made my way to Cinescape vie the web address posted in the last mag they published. I mostly tooled around in the comic book/super hero sections getting a whopping total of about 30 posts before I lost the internet. I avoided the lounge because a lot of what was there seemed so inaccessible to me.

When I got internet again (after about six months) I logged onto Cinescape only to find it had become Mania. I opened an account again and I've been here ever since. :D

As an oldskool CA'er(Registered opening day), i was reluctant to move over to cinsecape at first, but CA died for me when the X-men forum was killed.(A lot of complainers about the fact of the merge + the fact that we enforced the rules(Old, Bad blood))I still visited a bit till the end, but it hurt.

As for the pic? I believe that was bokchoi cowboy, one of our resident Photoshoppers. Seems like his handywork.

I made it to CA just as Fellowship of the Ring was due to come out. I found a link to their LOTR forums from someone at imdB, which was my first experience with online community. Things were okay there, got to make some friends, some that I know to this day, a couple in real life. But the place is a trainwreck. I discovered that people can be civil (for the most part), thanks to the LOTR forum at CA. Then I discovered the Lounge there, and over time made friends with everyone. There was some drama, and a split-off, and I spent part of my time over at Excelsior, as well. I stayed with CA though, until its dying day, and went en masse to Cinescape. There was a definite shakedown period, there were ex-pats from either board, some fingerpointing, some finger-flipping, and the dust settled to a decent place. Then there was the Mania merger, which was much more smooth than the CA to Cinescape transfer.

I'm a little weary of spending so much time online, but whatever.....I enjoy that I have stayed friends with many people from every stage of being in online communities, and am linked up to them at myspace.

Geez, I remember regularly checking the CA development hell page back when I was working full-time, which was almost ten years ago. Then I moved to England, discovered the forums, occasionally read them, but rarely posted. (They seemed so chummy and I was shy.) Then I moved back home from England in 2002 and had a lot more free time on the internet, so I started posting much more. By then CA was Cinescape, and now it's Mania. I've always been Neglet.

So was Cinescape boards completely desolate before the CAers came or what? Or did they not have a forum for those few years before the merge? Or did the Cinescape regulars just slowly trickle away after the merge with Coming Attractions and was replaced by CAers? It just seems that most of the regulars now on this board came from Corona.

Cinescape was huge, chemkill. It was a leading entertainment magazine in the 90s with thousands of people here at the forums. But a bigger boy came in and bought up a lot of sites combining them under one name in 99.

That was Fandom (same owner as Mania).

Fandom then closed for private and behind the scenes reasons.

When Cinescape came back online in 00, things were a lot slower then the previous days. When the magazine industry started losing money due to online movie news, some people left and some people stayed.

When Patrick was hired by Mania( Cinescape) in 03, we were going through a slow period for it time with around 500 active posters and 90,000 de active accounts.

Sure, a lot of people left when CA came into it but then some new faces came in too.

What really slowed these forums down were SQL errors and registrations being down for a year and a half. That literally slowed these forums down from a crawl with no new people.

That makes more sense obviously. I mean, I remember perusing the Cinescape magazines now and again back in the day and it would have been quite unlikely to not have anyone of its readers jump on the forums. I've been wondering about this for a while and I'm glad I have the answer to it now. I didn't realize the kind of shift that was going on with Cinescape during the transition periods of the late 90s early 2000s.

I was first a CAer mostly in the JB and X-men forums (Damn, still miss X-men) and made the transition to Cinescape and became one of the 'nazi mods' lmao. (Hey, I do think of that as a joke, okay? No flamewars starting please) Left for a while, cause I was really sick, but that's when the transition from Cine was going to Mania and never did ask to be a forum mod again. Though I'm sure there was a collective thousands of sighs over that. ;) lol

After a while, I discovered a chatroom, mostly girly chat about a movie actor (and no it wasn't a Hugh Jackman one! Though I wish at times it were. ;) ) But there wasn't enough chatter about movies or the type of topics I liked about movies, so I came back home. Isn't that the way it usually is?

It's nice to be back. :)

I read the Cinescape mag back in the day (may even still have a few copies laying around) then jumped to Cinescape online. When I started my new job 2 years ago, I had a lot of downtime while copying over videos, so when they restarted the forums I immediately jumped onboard for something to do (although I'm now blocked at work). Guess that still makes me a newbie, but I hope I can stick around for a while!

It all started way back when...In the early years, when Al Gore was working feverishly to finish creating the Internets...

Ok, maybe not THAT far back. It was a day about 6-7 years ago when I was looking for information on some sort of upcoming movie (Might have been X-Men related). Long story short, I stumbled into the forums after days of searching CA's pages. I got hooked on the Movie Amalgams threads because they made me laugh so much. I stuck around, made some friends, found secret forums (that do not exist), Asked Jakester a few questions, started up a round table of close people, got in a Great Debate with Traz that lasted for 3 years (it still goes on...damn you Traz) left for about a year or two, came back, everyone moved to Cinner-ville. Since then I have hung around here, missed out on some great drama (probably thankfully), and started a few fun threads.

I guess that about sums it up in a long winded, run on sentence sort of way.

Started in Coming Attractions in 2000, started my first rant a few months later.
Something to do with the lack of movies to look forward at the time.

Stayed there, got in heated debates, flame wars, participated in threads that had
food fights, BBQ's at the beach, dances, King and Queen contests,
"something completely different" threads, and all around buffoonery.
And oh yeah. The Munchkin-Oompa Loompa debate. Can't forget that one. :p

(sigh) I miss those days. :(

Anywayz, as we got migrated over to Cinescape, made new friends, new
threads, yada yada, and I being the conformist I am out of sheer laziness, and
due to an unwillingness to let loose the friendships I garnered, I planted my digs here
till the error storm hit, and now we're in Mania-land. :Smirk:

I saw. I think I'm going to have to release some of my anger before I can discuss it without degenerating to throwing my own feces at those who do not agree with me.

Spammity? Welcome to the boards!
And in case you didn't catch it, Peter can't "multi-task" his powers.
Being still new to it all, his mind was too lost in trying to figure out
one power that was overwhelming him before deciding to use another.

Just give him time. Let him first learn to spin ONE plate on a pole
before expecting him to keep more than two spinning at one time.

And as one who despises, hates, loathes with an undue passion all things
spam, you seem really nice. I'll make an exception to you. Welcome. :D

And oh yeah, I tend to rant at unscheduled moments.
They're like unpredictable geysers, pretty to look at but you do not want
to be in the way of one. :p

Miss Spam. If you ever post a spoiler in here please use the spoiler tags. I saw you talking about the Heroes finale - that's still 4 episodes away in Britain. Thank God I didn't read it.

Like so, just put the bit you want to keep secret in tags like this (minus the spaces) [ spoiler ]bladddy bladdy bladdy blah[ /spoiler ]

So it should look like this: bladdy bladdy bladdy blah

found secret forums (that do not exist).

Ha. I totally forgot about these. Okay. I didn't forget about them. I just haven't thought about them for a long time. Oh the hilarity! Man, CA had an entire culture wrapped in the forums and every different film topic had their own little culture and personality and legions of posters. I sound like a fucking nerd reminiscing about that place but man, was it ever fun... although all that drama was somewhat frustrating too.

Oh and Spam I totally agree.

I have never read anything, recaps or the threads on the very last episode even on the Heroes forum on this site because of how much I completely disliked the very last episode. Like I hated it so much I'm ignoring it. This is actually my very first vent on it anywhere. It was a failure of imagination and just so goddamn fucking shitty I wanted to run directly to California or wherever he was and kick Tim Kring's ass because of building the finale like this most awesome thing ever and then it coming out like a fart. Made me angry, so very angry.

I came here to kick ass and chew bubblegum.....

and I'm all outta ass.

I joined CA back in 2001 while I was training at my then new job. I was on lunch and surfing for stuff on Buffy and Angel. My soul was lost...

I reluctantly came to Cinescape when the CA went belly up Frenchie style. Then the Cinescape boards imploded and only three people could post. Rest is history...

I was a CA-er from way back. An ex-boyfriend (5,000 points if you can name him) introduced me. He's gone and so are those boards but they were great time. I stuck around CA until there were cobwebs and the lights had been turned out and four of us sat around in dark, dank forums with candles and hoped. But Cinescape was alright. I like this one better. More like the old days. But now I have a real job where I don't just get to sit around on the internet all day so I actually have to work.

Hey Queen O da Sweetpeas!
Oh crap. I know this one. I can't think of it.
I used to think it was a certain poster, but then you told me I was wrong,
and that was YEARS ago. Crap. ARGH! I can't think of it. No 5K for me. :OhWell:

hello,

i remember lots of changes from the board, cinescape, ca, blah blah...

i think my first posts related to jurrasic park and how cool it would be to see a JP10 that showed dinosaurs taking over the earth with fortresses full of survivors battling to keep the dinos out and rogue survivors trying to take over (still think that's a good concept and waiting to sting the film industry for stealing my concept!!)

anyway, i still pop in to read 24 and lost forums.....

oh and to post my bi-annual comments (see post count)

:( 1st, I hate being a NOOB ... :OhWell:

2nd, found myself launched into MANIA via Cine due to obsessive internet searching on ... yup the hot topic of this month ... "Cloverfield" aka PITA (pain in the "ack")

And to all the EthanHaas-ness  I will never name my children Ethan! or Haas for that matter (think Bonanza if youre old enuf or show savvy enuf to do so :D )

Well all those "important issues of life" aside, the forum is nicely set up & some very interesting posts & posters. I will tried to hide my MANIA noobiness as much as I can. (Outside of the darn title Im stuck with.)

p.s. Bill Did Bush really said “honored to shake the hand of a brave Iraqi citizen
who had his hand cut off by Saddam Hussein." 05/25/2004 ?? !! geh

Not really sure, it's a quote I grabbed off of the Chimp-o-matic. (http://chimpomatic.net/) It's a quote generator that changes everytime I go to my Google Homepage.

As far as I know, those quotes are accurate. :headscratch:

I found myself drifting into nothingness......Floating......Just.....float....U ntill I came upon a man in a dark cloak and noticed that he had no face....He motioned with his skinny fingers to approach him...I did.....When I got closer I could still could not see his face.......Still I was floating, with this...figure....He told me things, things that were not spoken by the word of mouth but through the mind......He told me to travel to distance places and spread the word....What word, i asked.....He told me....But I cannot say what he wanted me to do.....Hence, he passed on to me the name.....the name Gentlemen Death.....
