It seems lately that a lot of children's fantasy is being put into pre-production. I was just wondering if there were any more "adult" fantasy (sword and sorcery fantasy, sicko's) that you would like seen made into a movie?

Personally, I would love to see The Farseer books, but that might just be me.

I'd go for the Discworld series, but that's less fantasy and more humor, I think.

Stephen Donaldson's "Mirror of Her Dreams"--lovely twisty plot. "Thomas Covenant" is too dark to be done right.

Lois Bujold's "Curse of Chalion"--since we'll never get Vorkosigan on screen. Plus they're very groovy.

Discworld would be fun, but better for TV miniseries, I think.

Oh, God, not the whole series as one movie. That would be the worst thing ever.

I'm not sure how well it would translate to film, though, on second thought. I think a lot of the expositionial wit would be lost without the introduction of annoying voice-overs, which would be worse than the absence of said wit.

More Barbarian Queen sequels. Guaranteed socko at the box office.

I know this has been discussed before, but Stephen King's Dark Tower series would be great if done correctly.

Also, maybe something from the Dragonlance series. Those were the books that got me into fantasy as a kid (along with the Shannara novels). I know some are being done in anime form, but I would love to see some good live action.

Maybe some of Gregory Maguire's books other than Wicked (they're making a movie of the musical). I liked Confessions of An Ugly Stepsister, that would be a good one to start with.

Finally, I know it's just a singular book, but I would love to see Clive Barker's The Thief of Always made into a movie. I know it stars a kid, but it's still pretty dark.

Hmm, well, we have Warner Bros. who picked up the rights to Shannara, so they're probably hoping it'll make a decent replacement for HArry Potter.

J.J. Abrams got the rights to The Dark Tower, so take that for what you will.

The Thief of Always was, at one time, being handled as an animated film ,but I guess it stalled.

I would have liked to seen Salvatore's Dr'zzt books adapted, but I think the two D&D movies hammered the nails hard in to that coffin. :(

Shannara was already done. It's called Lord of the Rings.

Negs- I would totally love to see the Mirror books on screen, and Covenant is way too dark. It's pretty hard to redeem a guy who rapes someone in the first couple chapters of a 6 book series.

Elric would be great.

The Lord of the Rings has shown that it’s possible to do epic Sword and sorcery right. Now is the time for an Elric movie, and get Paul Bettany to star before he’s too old

If they got the tone right, an Elric movie would rock! :D

That’s the thing.

They’ve finally got the technology to do it right, but do they have the balls?

I do not want a “nice” PG Elric. I want a brooding conflicted, tortured soul Elric.

The good thing is that Michael Moorcock (the author) is being very selective, so hopefully, if it’s ever made, it will be with the right people.

Elric of Melnibone being optioned as a film. (http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Movies/02/24/film.elric.reut/index.html)

I used to read Elric comics during high school. I even based my final exam in art class on one of its covers. Got an A+.

And oh yeah- I'm still waiting for Conan the Barbarian done RIGHT, sans cheese.
And let's not forget, a Death Dealer film would totally rock.

I was a big Elric fan in high school and collage also. I need to dig them out again.

I just found a more recent article. Maybe it will actually happen sooner than later.

While not right out fantasy, I am getting tired of waiting for someone to do Princess of Mars! Now that the original novel is in the public domain, you'd think studios would be all over this one!
