Okay, just for some fun (and because this section seems to get the least amount of attention) lets discuss our favorite death scenes in horror films!

Personally, one of my favorite all time deaths was Captain Rhodes at the end of Day of the Dead (the original). This was the first movie I've seen that was that gory and I loved every blood spattered second of it.

Also, the line "I hope you choke on 'em" just sold the whole thing for me!:D

That is a good pick...I watched the making of the film, and I guess when he was getting his insides tore out those were pig guts, I beleive, and it was really hot and they smelled horrible....I would imagine so.

I will probably post a couple on here for the simple fact that there are so many good death sequences in movies....

One of the first that came to mind was in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) where the kid in the wheel chair gets cut up by Leatherface and all the kid could do was sit there....That sucks....

You mentioned the puppet scene in Nightmare 3, and that is an awesome kill. He plays with his arteries/veins or whatever and walks him up the stairs and makes him jump off the roof, correct??

That was a messed up way to die....Or when the chick is watching T.V. and he picks her up and slams her head into the t.v.....gnarly....

Have you guys seen Suspiria or any Dario Argento movies...

Grisly Spoilers from Suspiria....

In the movie's first ten minutes. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6zJGUUiG0c) :(

Later on.... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xh7fB-6Jqc) :(

from Profondo Rosso (AKA Deep Red) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHaeMPbxPn0)

And so on and so forth....

Will Patton's death in The Mothman Prophecies is much more haunting and disturbing, though, and also sad :(

I thought one of the most disturbing death scenes was in Maximum Overdrive. The fact that it wasn't overly graphic somehow made it worse.

It was at the baseball game when the steamroller runs over that kid. I still get shudders thinking about it. How you see it come up on him and then you see his head disappearing under it.

While not a "Best Death", now that I am a parent i can no longer watch Pet Sematary. I loved it when I was kid, but now when the kid gets hit by the truck... yeah, its too much for me. :(

That is understandable....

That steamroller thing made me think of Kevin Klines death in A Fish Called Wanda....that scene was just plain funny, nothing more...

Bill, great call on Suspiria. That one had one of the most asthetically gorgeous
death scenes ever filmed. It feels weird saying that, but once you see them, you
can understand why. The use of color and design in that movie is just staggering.

But after reading the thread title, I was tempted to include death scenes that
were extraordinarily horrific, but weren't set in a horror movie.

Ones that come to mind are like the cop getting tortured in Reservoir Dogs,
Karl taking out Dwight Yoakam in Sling Blade,
and the Nazis melting/exploding in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
All done with subtlety or style, but so chilling in their effect.

But, to keep on topic, I'd have to add the cop getting skinned and displayed
like an eagle on the cage bars courtesy of Hannibal Lecter. Simply shocking.

The bitchy girl getting the curling iron up her hoo-ha in Sleepaway Camp. I'm not a girl, but daaaaamn that sucks!
