Now that blockbuster season is in full swing, we've probably seen enough movies to start making our lists. Here's mine:

1. Pan's Labyrinth--I know it came out last year, but hands down the best film I've seen in 2007--actually saw it twice.
2. Live Free or Die Hard--Fun flick, great action, almost as good as the first one.
3. Spiderman 3--Love Spidey, but too many villains get too little development.
5. Pirates 3--A little too long, although better than number 2.
4. Ocean's Thirteen--Surprisingly fun, although nothing surprising.
6. Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer--Better than the first, could've been a little longer.
7. Shrek 3--Main characters were coasting, plot was lame, but still funny.
8. Meet the Robinsons--Some good bits, but you could tell it had something like 7 screenwriters.

Oops. I guess I haven't seen 10 films yet ... but I'll update this list in a couple of weeks. Can't wait for "Transformers" and "Harry Potter"!

Yeah, I will update mine as they go too, but here is what I have seen which I have actually enjoyed and will buy when it comes out.

1. Grindhouse (For me, the best movie I have seen in a very, very long time!)
2. Pan's Labyrinth
3. 28 Weeks Later
4. Hostel 2 (That is right SP, soak it up!)

I still say it looks like crap...

1. Hot Fuzz
2. Ghost Rider
3. 300
4. Smokin' Aces
5. Spider-Man 3
6. Vacancy
7. The Messengers

Yeah, I'll have to update later, too. Some of these probably won't even be on my list at year's end.

Edit: Every time I start thinking about it, it seems, I remember another movie I forgot I saw. What does that say for quality? Or my memory :headscratch:

1. Grindhouse Planet Terror was the best man.

2. Spiderman 3 You still got it Spidey!

3. Shooter Rambo for the 21st century...

4. Breach Very tense, but also funny!

5. Hot Fuzz Cool action satire.

6. Reign Over Me Made me cry...

7. Freedom Writers Same as #6...

8. Ghost Rider I enjoyed this movie, unlike Pirates and 300.

9. Fantastic 4: ROTSS Cute. For the kids. Dude vaporized.

10. TMNT Huge fan growing up, didn't disappoint.

11. 300

12. Pirates 3 Boring, convoluted, mess...

1. Ratatouille - This is hands down the best film I have seen thus far. It has great characters, a good story, funny jokes, superb character animation, and it is just really damn pretty to look at. :D

2. Hot Fuzz - Hot Fuzz isn't quite as good as Shaun of the Dead, but it was still a really fun time at the movies.

3. 300 - The eye candy is definitely the reason I saw 300, but I ended up enjoying the story as well.

4. POTC: At World's End - I really liked the third Pirates movie. It was epic spectacle at its best.

5. 1408 - This was a semi-surprising little movie about a haunted hotel room. John Cusak is very good in it, making the movie work. If you like ghost stories, check it out.

6. Meet the Robinsons - This was a pretty good movie that was made even better if you saw it in 3D.

7. Grindhouse - I enjoyed Grindhouse quite a bit, but not as much as I expected to. The fake trailers were the best part.

8. Smokin' Aces - I was hoping for a little bit more of the wacky, insane action side of this movie, but it was still very enjoyable.

9. TMNT - As a Ninja Turtles fan, I loved TMNT. It has many flaws, but there is also a lot that they got right. I particularly liked the film noir look of the movie.

10. Spider-Man 3 - Man, I did not expect this big of a misfire after Spidey 2. This was just a big, unfocused mess. Still, with all its flaws, Spidey 3 still ends up being better than a lot of comic based movies do (ie. Catwoman, Elektra, Ghostrider, X-men 3, etc.)

Honorable Mention: Seraphim Falls - I really enjoyed this little movie for about 2/3 to 3/4 of its running time. It tries to dip into surrealism in the final act, and it just wasn't as taught as the rest of the film. Pierce Brosnan is really great in this film, not an easy task when your character is a grisly man who rarely speaks. He doesn't deliver his first line until at least 15-20 minutes of the movie have passed. The real environments the film was shot in are easily the star of this film. The snowy mountains at the beginning of the film are especially harsh and beautiful.

If I did a list, "Bourne Ultimatum" would be on it. That was fabulous! It was the most impressive fighting they've done and I've long been impressed with the Paris fight in the first movie. At one point everyone in the audience sort of registered shock that it was so intense. And I thought 'well, it's kill or be killed right? They have to go all out.' The car chase took a different...point of view. Overall, you just love the story, plus there's a sort of revelation halfway through that isn't commented on by the characters by quite made me want to shout "wait-waaiiittt - so all this time...?"

That's all my spoiler-free commentary anyway.

Last tally for the year. I'm sure I'll see some of 2007's Oscar-bait movies, but I'll put them in the 2008 list. Overall, I think a great year for movies.

1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Amazing.
2. Pan's Labyrinth
3. Michael Clayton
4. I Am Legend
5. The Bourne Supremacy
6. Transformers
7. Live Free or Die Hard
8. Hairspray--should've caught this in the theatres instead of a tiny airplane screen, but it was great.
9. Harry Potter 5
10. Spiderman 3

Honorable mention: The Golden Compass, The Simpsons Movie, Pirates 3, Ocean's Thirteen, Fantastic Four/Silver Surfer, Shrek 3, Evan Almighty, Blades of Glory, Meet the Robinsons

I was thinking about adding AVP:R for honorable mention...but that movie was horrible and is not even worth putting on the list....Look for a review about it on CHAOTIC RADIO, this Saturday!

Just from the trailers and word of mouth, I think There Will Be Blood will top the list, but I thought the same thing about Atonement, so we'll see...

1. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
2. No Country For Old Men
3. Atonement - The cinematography was amazing, the music was great, the acting was fantastic, just lacked a little in the overall execution. I read the book first though, so I may be a tad biased.
4. Across the Universe
5. Stardust
6. Juno
7. Margot At The Wedding
8. Hairspray
9. Ratatouille
10. Enchanted

Honorable Mention (In no particular order): The Mist, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, 300, The Simpsons Movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Beowulf, Spider-Man 3, Hot Fuzz, 30 Days of Night, 1408

I must admit I didn't get to as many movies as I would have liked. Sweeny Todd just opened up here in the Northland and I am definately seeing it. So without further ado:

1. Bourne Ultimatium
2. Zodiac
3. 300
4. American Gangster
5. Live Free or Die Hard
6. Pirates AWE
7. Transformers
8. Harry Potter OOTP
9. Knocked Up
10. Eastern Promises

1. Juno
2. Atonement
3. There Will Be Blood (Daniel. Fucking. Day. Lewis. Shoo in for Best Actor)
4. No Country For Old Men (See above. Substitue Jaiver Bardem's name. Add Supporting to Oscar win.)
5. Eastern Promises
6. Superbad
7. Bourne Ultimatum
8. 300
9. 3:10 To Yuma
10. Ratatouille.

And I'm probably in a minority, but I wanted to share my keen dislike of Sweeney Todd. Blech. Nice production values and all, but the rest just didn't do it for me.
