Has anyone heard anything on who'll be singing the opening song?

Not yet. It'll be a while yet. I just really, really, really hope they carry on doing something a bit different, as they did with DAD. I can't stand everybody who tackles a 007 theme simply trying to out-Bassey Shirley herself !!

While I don't care for the out-Basseying Bassey approach each and every time out, Madonna's song STILL makes me cringe everytime I hear it.

Given the choice, I'll take a Bassey clone any day over something that already sounds dated and cheap.

Madonna's song grew on me. Gorram, never thought I'd hear myself say that.

What they've done with casting and direction has been so unexpected that anything is possible. It would certainly have to be dark and edgy to fit with their themes.

(Waiting for Leiter to suggest Portishead.) ;)

They could always "modernize" the instrumental track that was used for the 1967 farcical "Casino Royale". Somehow I doubt it though (but I did like that tune)!

You gotta admit, Tina Turner came pretty close...

Madonna's song grew on me quickly too. Call me crazy. It was the lyrics more than anything.

PS: Hey... how about some PORTISHEAD???

Why not do what they did for OHMSS, no theme tune at the beginning but a proper piece of Bond-ish orchestral music over a title sequence.

I doubt they will forgo the chance to make money on a hit song.

Yeah, they can't pass up an opportunity for cross-promotional marketing. A hit song not only generates money, it generates more publicity for the film. You get a song by a hot young singer/group, you bring the Bond film to the attention of a demographic group that may not be big fans of the franchise.

I'd be concerned that "Casino Royale" is not a very conducive title for a song... rather like the movie that "All Time High" accompanied (for some reason it won't let me post the title) I just hope that David Arnold has a hand in writing it so the themes can carry through the entire score.

I don't know. However, I hope it's something like this song that I hear on Cell phone Sliver commercial.

I was having just that very thought yesterday.

It is a very 007-ish tune.

From IMDB.com

Turner To Sing 'Casino Royale' Theme?

Tina Turner has reportedly been asked to record the title song for new James Bond movie Casino Royale. The 66-year-old star recorded the theme tune for the 1995 spy adventure GoldenEye, and film bosses are convinced she will give the new rawer Bond - played by Daniel Craig - the required edge. An insider tells British newspaper the Daily Express, "To quote one of Tina Turner's hits, she's 'Simply The Best.' We want Casino Royale to have a huge impact so we want a big theme tune. We know Tina would deliver just that."

I'm all for it. I really liked her rendition of "Goldeneye", and think she's a great successor to Shirley Bassey.

Alas it has been reported in the Daily Express and The Sun. Unless there is a picture of her in conversation with Campbell and the Brocolli's, a photocopy of her contract and a copy of the lyrics I would take it with an entire ocean of salt at this stage.

New Bond, Campbell, Tina Turner..... jesus, why not just remake GoldenEye already !

Yeah, these aren't reliable sources. IMDb's news feed (Word News Weekly, is it?) is notoriously bad.

GoldenEye is my favorite Bond song (or at least in my top 3), but it performed very poorly on the charts, making me doubt this can be true.

It got to number 2 in the UK. The state of the UK singles chart since about 1992 means that isn't a massive achievement. Wasn't Duran Duran the only 007 song that really set the world alight sales wise anyway ??

Robbie Williams anyone ? The YOLT sample on his single "Millennium" is damned funky !

I love that song, especially how it uses that orchestral sample. But then I'm one of the rare Yanks who not only has heard of Robbie Williams, but owns one of his CDs. (Too bad I cheated: I lived in the UK for four years. :ohwell:)

I also think they'd be more likely to find a different artist for the theme song, rather than repeat a singer, especially if they're trying to draw new fans to the "rebooting" of the series. They'll probably look for a younger, trendier group ... sorry, Mr. Williams!

AVTAK hit #1 in the U.S., DAD hit #2. GF was #3.

GE didn't crack the top 40.

Of course, the best Bond theme song was Live & Let Die, even if the movie sucked.

I dunno, they brought back Bassey a few times. Robbie Williams would be a nice choice. What about Michael Buble?

I never cared that much for YOLT as theme song until I heard that beautiful freak of nature, Bjork, did a rendition of it. As for Portishead and Massive Attack, they are both bands that have the capability of producing something Bondish, but they don't appear to be part of Bond history like Vincent Price would have been an awesome Ernst Stavro Blofeld in YOLT or DAF. Listen to Portishead collaboration with Tom Jones 'Motherless Child' - very bondish indeed, or one of my favorite songs "Nobody loves me"

I'm am in agreement with Casino Royale Title theme song being an instrumental, Tina could sing an end title. Or they may do what they did with Octo***** where there's no mention of the title in the song like they did with "All time High."
