Check in if you can. Let us know you're all ok.

Flooding in U.K. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6913752.stm), for those of you that haven't heard.

Thanks Kah. It's damned wet over here. For all the jokes about British weather we have had really good summers lately and some really nice springs.

This year, however, solid rain for most of May, June and July. It's crazy, a total washout. Apparently this is because a high pressure system usually pushes up from the Azores in Spring which makes the Gulf Stream move and push tropical weather towards Britain. This year the high pressure has not been as pronounced so the Gulf Stream hasn't moved as far. It's happened many times before and will happen again.

And of course our dipsh*t government, with it's open door immigration policy, still plans to allow building of 250,000 homes on flood plains to accommodate everyone. D'oh !

Still, I don't care. I am off to Egypt scuba diving for two weeks as soon as I can get it booked.

Good to hear you're all right. Crazy how you guys are getting so much rain, but Italy's in a total drought. :Dunno:

The U.S. is like that, too. I need to look up the specific statistic, but I think it was something like 80% of our homes are within 5 miles of the coast. Seems a little risky to me, but people like being near the water.

I found some info that said half the world's population lived within 50 miles of the coast. :Dunno: I don't feel like looking anymore.

I can only wonder what this portends for those of us living off of the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway system...

I have never been so glad to live about 400 miles inland on a hill. Even some areas of Austin are flooding. IT'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT PLAINS. WHY.

It's the apocalypse, y'all. I swear. Someone build an ark. And ignore that the end of the world and the great flood came from opposite ends of the Bible.

You know, it seems to me that Dutch construction firms could make some serious prfit out of all of this.

After all, the Dutch know a thig or two about building dams to hold back the sea...

I live and work in North London; flooding here hasn't been a problem. But it's just depressing as hell to have this kind of rain throughout July.

Glad to see you're okay, Deacon. :)

As far as that half the population lives near the coast, I remember hearing the same exact thing on Al Gore's documentary last year. It was a tad unnerving because I've lived 23 miles away from Galveston all my life.

I'm thinking it'll be wise to move to elevated ground sometime in the future though I don't see the water levels rising around the world to the point of destroying half the population for another 100-200 years.

Still scary shit to think about for our grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Got that right ODJ. People our age will most likely not live to see the devastation of our actions. But, the generations to come will be living like Water World.

Is that the Rutgeur Hauer fim set in a flooded, near future London ? Something to do with a creature eating peoples hearts ? I think I remember it.
