New season starts March 12. Eighteen episodes, instead of the traditional ten are expected to air. That's akin to an additional season folks.
I. CANNOT. WAIT.
Check out HBO (http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/?ntrack_para1=feat_main_category) to get reacquainted with some of the ongoing storylines. The episode recaps are actually quite good. Here's season five's finale:
Johnny Sack is accompanying Phil Leotardo as he retrieves his brother's body from the morgue. Phil promised his mother that he'd look at Billy before the undertaker "puts on all that pancake and shit." But when the attendant unzips the black bag, it's more than the hardened capo can bear. He turns to Johnny. "How long I gotta wait?" he pleads, "Tony Soprano left to his own device is never gonna give up that fuckin' animal Blundetto."
Tony's unilateral decision to protect his cousin has not been a popular one. While the guys await Tony's arrival at a birthday dinner for Ray Curto (who continues to pass information to the FBI) they grouse openly about the current state of affairs. Christopher has been forced into hiding because Phil will kill him if he can't have Blundetto. Another concern is the financial difficulty an unappeased Johnny Sack could create for all of them. Cutting to the heart of the matter, Vito Spatafore sums up the prevailing opinion: "I'm willing to die for a good cause. This is bullshit."
But when Tony shows up he makes his position clear. Because Phil intends not just to execute Tony B, but to torture him, Tony S. will not hand him over. "I'm offering him the same protection I would offer to any of you under similar circumstances," he says. "We're a family," Tony reminds them, which means protecting your own. Silvio, however, sees things differently and when he and Tony are alone, he speaks his mind. "It's about you don't want to eat shit from Johnny," he says, adding, "There's seven deadly sins and yours is pride."
The consequences are soon apparent. Accosting Benny Fazio in the parking lot of Crazy Horse one night, Phil demands to know where Blundetto is. When Benny claims ignorance, Phil beats him with his cane, fracturing his skull. After visiting the unconscious Benny at the hospital, Tony's resolve begins to waver. He asks Junior's advice, but his increasingly confused uncle is preoccupied with his own situation; his attorney suffered a stroke, causing a postponement of his retrial. But later, in a contentious session with Dr. Melfi, Tony is reminded of something pertinent, that all his feelings for Tony B. stem from guilt.
Meanwhile, Tony B. is still at Uncle Pat's farmhouse, awaiting a message from Tony S. Soon it comes: as he steps onto the porch carrying groceries, Tony S. emerges from around a corner and fires a single twelve-gauge shotgun cartridge into his cousin's forehead. Afterward Tony goes to Christopher's motel room. "You need to go up to the farm and pick up your cousin," Tony tells him softly. "He should be buried. It should be you that does it."
Then Tony goes home, where Carmela is devastated over news that Adriana and Christopher have broken up and A.J. has embarked on a new business venture. He and a friend threw a party, charging admission and clearing a profit of six hundred dollars. Carmela tells Tony that A.J. once expressed interest in studying to be an event planner. Although he's uncertain what that is, Tony is glad to see his son excited about something.
The next morning, Tony goes to Johnny Sack's house to finally settle their differences. As they stand in his snow-covered backyard, Johnny informs Tony that Phil remains angry, but Tony has had enough. "Whatever his legitimate sorrow, he's got a price," Tony tells Johnny, "...meet his price and that's it." Johnny closes his eyes and exhales, then agrees. The two bosses embrace, restoring peace between the families - just in time for FBI agents to arrive. Johnny is chased down and arrested, but Tony escapes through the woods. A safe distance away, he phones his lawyer, Neil Mink, who tells him not to worry, it was a Brooklyn sting operation and Tony wasn't named on the warrant. "Be of good cheer," Neil advises. Then Tony hangs up and continues his long walk home.

Beat me to the punch...Imdb only has 10 titles for this coming season up though......Imdb is hardly that accurate though. HBO being more reliable.
I've been seeing the Sopranos preview in between movies on HBO recently and it definitely looks awesome....cannot wait for it.
Sounds like all the cards are the on table now between everyone. Who's going to have the Aces and who's going to muck it in the end...

My understanding is that this season will be 12 episodes, and there will be eight more to air in 2007, which will bring us, sadly, to the grand finale of what's for my money the most consistantly great show ever on television.
Hopefully I can talk the roommates into adding HBO before March 12th. I've been SO pumped about this for about eight months now since the season five dvd was released.

ONE.
MORE.
WEEK.
*SQUEEEEEEHAAAAA*
We added HBO just for this show. Still don't know how many episodes this season is, and I don't particularly care. But FINALLY it's coming!!
And by the by, I read New York magazine on my airplane last weekend, and they presented some ideas from some relatively famous writers (David Benioff of 25th Hour fame, for one) on what they thought should happen as the show ends.
The ideas that I remember went like this....
1. Something has to happen to Meadow. They suggest a rape, rather than a murder. Because honestly...what's closer to Tony than his daughter?
2. Tony must die. Either at the hands of Carmella, or more believably, by Christopher. Carm finally has enough, or Christopher takes vengence for Adrianna. Considering the trailer I saw, I think the latter may actually be a possibility.
And that was all I can remember. Any thoughts on either one? Personally, and I mean this in the least sadistic way possible, but I'd *love* if they had something (like a rape) happen to Meadow. Especially at the hands of someone in Johnny Sack's crew. For one....Tony would flip. All out gang war would follow, and we'd see a dark, depressed, twistedly fucked up side of Tony that they haven't approached yet. Also, we'd see Meadow get to show a bit of range, as she's worn a bit thin in recent years IMO, with the "oh, I know what my dad is and what he does, but at least he's putting me through Columbia while I live with my pretty boy boyfriend" bit.
But that's me. How about you?

Christopher wouldn't take vengeance for Adrianna -- he could have left with her, but HE told Tony about her. It was HIS choice. Now, he may get pissed that, after "sacrificing" her, he gets overlooked...
I had heard previously that Tony would not get killed in the series.

See...if he would've left with her, I think they both would've been dead anyway. Chris isn't stupid about these things, and I think he knew that. So he gave her up, is probably going to get shafted a while for not telling them sooner like you said...but I'd have to imagine that Adrianna would be at least part of the reason for his vengence. Kill the love of his life, fuck him over in the family, and keep putting guns in his hands....smells disastrous to me.

I can see Chris hitting the drugs pretty heavy this season. Getting depressed, not earning. He's got no left to pick him up anymore. I'd hate to see him leave early, but, I have read that there is going to be a suicide in the first episode. He's a candidate, I would think.

Okay, I haven't watched this yet (tomorrow!)
But I changed the thread title a bit. Season Five spoilers are fair game without warning, but do note that from here on out Season Six spoilers shall be discussed. So if you're like me and haven't watched an episode yet, steer clear.
And to those talking about it...try to remember to provide plenty of advance warning before bringing up spoilers, or else use the spoiler code.
But fair warning to anyone reading this (since I've noticed a LOT of guest traffic on here). Season Six Spoilers/Summaries can and will be discussed beyond this point.
And now you know...and knowledge is power.
Carry on...

SPOILERS of new episode below:
Didn't know whether to put it in here or in the other Sopranos thread...but just like tonights 24, I yelled TONNYYYY. The irony of that situation is he has so many enemies, those he knows about and of course those he has no clue about....yet, who's the man who gets him. A delusional old man that he has protected since day 1. His own freaking family gets him.
It wouldn't surprise me one damn bit if they kill off Tony in the beginning of the season and have the rest of the episodes as a wrap up of the chaos that ensues.
I don't think it will happen, personally, but it still wouldn't surprise me.
After all, the writers of Sopranos are just as sick as the writers of 24. Equally disturbing hosers, they are....
Also, you notice the wife of the jailed Boss's face when she sees that new car. Here they were talking of selling the Mazarati that he so loves and she comes to say hello in a bad ass new ride.
Definitely going to be some bad blood going on in this season. The writers showed us in this first episode how the lines of communication were breaking down so soon after he got jailed. Now look at the situation with Tony down and out. Levels of communication and mistrust are going to run rampart all over the place from the Captains to just the minions who do the ugly deeds.
Btw, showing that guy's hanging all the way through was absolutely nuts...disgusting too.....I liked it alot. I mean, come on, they showed the whole scene...from the time he kicked the box to his last twitch of nerves. Disgusting
Who's the guy in charge now on the streets...Christopher? So soon after he made such a crazy sacrifice to stay in the family?
Can't wait till next Sunday......and of course Monday(for another absolutely horrid, can't miss show).

************SPOILERS BELOW*****************************
yeah I caught the new episode last night also(although it appears Comcast Digital has it on-demand!). I was listening to the Ticket in Dallas, and they mentioned that this season is basically about a year after last season. I guess that explains why AJ's in college with the stoner hair and all, Janice and Bobby having a kid, etc etc.
I still find it hard to keep track of all of the players, and who's side they are on. Watching Hess's son-in-law get nailed by the cab was brutal, as was watching the guy hang himself. I really felt for him. All he wanted to do was retire, and both sides(Mob and Gov't) basically told him that they owned his ass and to forget about Florida.
I sort of knew that Tony was going to be shot, but I was still surprised by it being Uncle Junior. Somehow I don't think handguns and mental illness really mix that well. :D
Can't wait til next week. I really don't see them killing Tony off. I suppose they could wuss out and leave him in a coma all season, and let the chaos play around him.

Nice opener. Every time a new season rolls around I get this dreadful idea that for some reason the show is going to suck. That maybe the long hiatus or the addition of new witers has somehow soured the mix. Thankfully, I've been wrong everytime as season six has absorbed me already. Can't wait for next Sunday night.
Spoilers****
-Vito is going to be a thorn in Tony's ass. He's ambitious and obviously horny for the top job. He practically told Eugene that he'd like to see Tony go dowm. It's going to be interesting to see what Chase does here. I don't think we'll see another classic conspirator storyline. We've witnessed that already. I'm expecting something a bit more unconventional for our boy Vito. Anybody else catch the way he eyed that hotdog weiner? ;)
-Junior plugging Tony was a shock but I imagine he'll make a full recovery. The incident will high track Uncle June to a retirment home, no doubt.
-Jesus, Eugene was in a bad spot, huh? Poor bastard. And that suciide was harsh. The twitching and piss made it all the more miserable. With him gone are all the informents dead?
-Love the way Carm was flaunting her new ride.
-Even with the hippy hair AJ looks like a meatball.

Interesting episode. I was totally confused during the first 20, until I realized he was coming out of the coma. I am sure there's plenty of symbolizism in the business trip to Costa Mesa.
On the flip side, it's very interesting to watch the various players trying to jockey for position. Frankly, that's where I hope the season goes. It will be interesting to see 1) how NY mob reacts to this and 2) how the NJ guys react.
Also funny was Vito mentioning that maybe Eugene killed himself because he was gay and hiding it. A little personal insight there, Vito?
I could see AJ going all in, and becoming a made guy, possibly becoming a figurehead leader. He's already flunked out of school, and his anger at Junior could be the boiling point.
Pretty interesting episode, and quite disgusting too, when they showed Tony's abscess.

2nd Episode was an emotional rollercoaster.
I can already tell a award for Best Actress in a Drama is coming towards Edie Falco after this episode.
She was absolutely wonderful during this episode....especially the two emotional outbursts in the hospital....one where Chris comforts her and the other where she is driving her thoughts into the comatosed husband.
The writers of this show are much like the writers of 24. Truly awesome.
Anyone notice how Chris has the conversation with the FBI agents at the deli about terrorism and then confronts two muslims who ask about Tony in the Bada Bing.
Bet that comes back in later episodes.
Great second episode. Previews for next week look even better because you know a power struggle is going to come into play with Junior being outcasted and Tony on his deathbed(in everyones eyes).
The guy who is sucking up to all while hiding his homosexual tendencies are about to come to the forefront when Meadow's baby comes into town. The secret that he holds is going to be a crux in that guys ambitions.
Chris is getting alot more screen time too to compete with the other Captains ...you have to wonder how that will end up with Tony out of commission.
Can't wait till next Sunday.
If you're not watching Sopranos, you should. If you don't have HBO.....in the words of that rich bastard Donald Trump, "You're fired!". Get HBO.
Sopranos rocks. Deadwood rocks. Entourage rocks. Rome rocks.

I've always loved the sopranos, but this new season kinda has me a little shaken. Im hoping they dont kill Tony off like this, being shot by Junior was a shocker but hes gotta have a better death than that if none at all. As for the power struggle, im hoping AJ decides to join up, and Chrisopher plans a power take over. As for the guy in the closet he's just annoying me, can't wait to see him get whacked, anyway ill definitly be tuned next week.
Has anyone seen the show Big Love it is surprisingly good who knew i'd like a show about a guy married to three women? :D

The metaphors come at you like dots on the road this week. Worthy of repeat viewings, for sure. I agree with Carm's perfomance, it was beautiful and heartbreaking. I mean, "You're strong Tony, strong as a bull". I almost f*cking died!
Spoilers****
- It was interesting to see Tony use Finnerty's credit card near the end of the episode. Could mean that he's getting comfortable with his new "identity" and therefore doesn't care to wake from the coma. Seeing him ignore the ringing phone in the last scene gave me the same impression.
- Anybody else notice that Edie Falco did not voice Tony's wife during the dream sequences? The woman on the phone did sound familiar though. Who the f*ck was it?
- Getting suckered by a couple of Buddist monks. Is Tony in for a karmic bitch slap?
- I loved the way Christopher conned Paulie out of buying a radio for Tony's room. Only to go and buy it himself. Lol, what a bastard!
- "Hey, Van Helsing". Classic.
- Vito is one miserable dude. Bad enough that he's angling for a promotion while Tony's layed up, but does he have to go and rip one all over the boss' couch?
Previews for the next show look superb. Silvio is giving orders and more friction between Paulie and Chris. And Finn comes back! I'm hard already.

So we're four episodes deep now, and I'm finally caught up!
I'm pretty sure that last night's episode will be the one that shapes the course of the season. Carmella warning Tony about Vito (and being dead right to do so), Paulie attacking the garbage kid under his own authority (and how about the acting from Tony Sirico in this episode! I knew he could do it!), and nothing can beat Bobby shooting the rapper in the ass because he shorted him by a thousand. :D
I got the idea that the events of Tony's coma are going to dominate the rest of the season as well. And really, who does dream sequences better than the Sopranos? I loved the return of Steve Buscemi last week as Tony was torn between life as Tony or death as Kevin Finnerty. Will AJ take vengence on Junior? Will Tony's soldiers keep up with the power struggle now that they've tasted life without T? Who put up the note with the Ojibwe saying in the hospital room?
So much to see, so much to learn, and Tony's seemingly shifted into a "very appreciative of life" mode, and rightfully so. All the questions, all the drama, and we're just getting started. They've definitely come back with a bang to prove why they're one of the best shows ever to hit television.
And most importantly of all...can Meadow possibly get any hotter?

Jakester does have a point...
I thought it was interesting Paulie finding out that his mom wasnt his mom. I've always liked Paulie but I think him finding this out will screw him up. Since the show began you always hear him saying he bought this and that for his "mom". I dont like seeing Tony as weak as he is but it makes the story better. How will his crew act? when they know he's not at full strength.
BTW... I got rid of HBO over a year ago when the Sopranos werent going to be coming back for awhile. When I knew it was coming back I got HBO again paying about $15 a month to see this show. It was worth every penny...

"AJ...you make me wanna cry".
Wow, what a raw moment. You could actually watch as AJ grew up a few years in that one exchange. From meathead to man. I think he's finally realizing that he cannot be the person that his father is, which is reassuring, but heartbreaking in its own way too.
You know there's some good writing going on when a loathsome creature like Vito becomes this sympathtic, unassumming gay man struggling to find his way in the span of just two shows. Im really digging his storyline.

I've enjoyed this season so far, but I had such a tedious tome watching the "season finale" last night. I mean....zzzzz. Yeah, Christopher can't say "no" to drugs. I frigging get it. He doesn't love his wife. Yeah. I saw that coming when she was introduced. I dunno...there were plenty of nice moments, but getting to them was tedious.

The season started out really strong, with Eugene's suicide and Tony getting plugged but then the show just seemed to spin its wheels a third of the way through. Nothing resolved, everything feeling rushed with the quick addition of new characters and plot developments.
It's not that I want to see more people getting clipped or even more action, I just wanted to see something more interesting. The storylines were ok, but only Vitos's arc really matched the quality of previous seasons.
