I have about a billion completely irrational fears, because... of something. Anyway, some of them are funny, or at least weird. It's midnight, I'm bored and I just ate a large amount of sour cream & onion Lays, so everything seems like a good idea. I'll post a few of mine, and you guys can post yours! Fun!

1. Stepping on glassware or china left on the floor of my room and getting a huge cut on my foot, with shards of glass/porcelain stuck in it and stuff.
2. Being assaulted in a public bathroom. (The germs don't faze me.)
3. That my various body freckles are actually skin cancers and that I'll be in Stage 4 before I know it because I believed everyone when they told me I was just being a hypochondriac.
4. Jetskiing.
5. Fuzzy bug legs. They just freak me out to no end.

Woo!

*My kids being run over by a car.
*My basement flooding with rain water.
*A tree falling on my house.
*Before I take a long road trip I can't sleep the night before worrying about having a car accident.
*My parents dying before I get to see them again.
*Getting old.

Well, unless he pulls an FDR, it can't happen.

"4 more years" was a chant originally used during the campaign of Nixon's second presidential bid. It was heard again for Reagan in 1984, Bush the first in 1992 and for Bush the second in 2004.

As a result, when I hear "4 more years" chanted, I cringe. And it's irrational because Mr. Bush has no more chances at being president. Still, Kaeos got it right when he expressed fears that nothing would change even after Bush and buddies leave in 2009...

Been saying the same thing for years. Heh, back at the old forums in 2002, I said Hillary would win 2008 and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. It's just the same two families ruling over our country since 1988-2016. What's that conspiracy organization that rules the world? The Illuminati? Even without those two families...it still doesn't make a difference. The establishment will always remain the same and both parties will push out any 3rd or 4th party to keep the establishment going...of course it doesn't help that the other parties continue getting bigots and strange thinkers to represent them.

It's why I hate discussing politics now. Nothing changes and it got old even thinking about that fact ten years ago...Let alone saying it over and over again.

Hmmm...Irrational fears...I don't like snakes...even harmless ones. Something about them scares the shit out of me. I don't like making left turns without a PROTECTED green arrow. I don't give a damn if the person behind me is honking...I really can't stand feeling something crawl on me when sleeping...

I've been having a strange recurring nightmare lately about being trapped in a mall with no exit doors...No doors to the outside world. It's just a bunch of shops that go in a circle...I hate that dream.

Well, he can't pull an FDR since FDR wasn't restrained by the 22th Amendment to the Constitution. Until its passage any two-term limit was strictly traditional and viewed as vital to the success of the country by constantly infusing fresh blood into the government. The idea of any presidency longer than two terms was viewed as a kingship and proven as such by FDR's election to four terms. Had he not died early in his fourth term, a success in WWII (which was almost guaranteed by the time Truman took over) would have virutally guaranteed him additional terms until a more timely death or a decision not to run. Leading the country out of two potential nation-killers (The Great Depression AND the greatest threat to international political balance & democracy) almost turned him into a demi-god.

Honestly, as good as he was, I'm glad he died and prevented such a scenario. Had he not, it's likely neither Eisenhower nor Kennedy would ever have been President.

Yes, because so far they've shown the greatest respect for the rest of the Constitution.

The 22nd is so cut-and-dried, though, that it can't be gotten around without 3/4 of the states agreeing. And I can't imagine the court of public opinion, except in the most extreme of hysterias, asking for it to be set aside. But it would take an incredibly unexpected event -- I mean off the charts here -- that would sway people's religious beliefs and/or totally shake their confidence in the opposite political party to allow such a move. I just don't think it's likely that we'll get such a confluence of factors. The only possibility, and I consider it remote, is with a Democratic President and a Republican Congress. What exactly that scenario is I'll leave for another time or if this discussion goes further but this getting incredibly off-topic. I may post a topic about it at some point but I'm still trying to get together a single post for the "What annoys you?" thread.

Actually, Roosevelt and his close advisors in the Democratic Party knew it was likely he wouldn't survive his fourth term. That's one of the reasons why they replaced Vice President Henry A. Wallace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_A._Wallace)on the ticket. Wallace was considered way too liberal by many Democrats (even leaning Communist) to become president; he had also publicly feuded with other members of the administration. Thus he was replaced with Harry S Truman and the rest y'all know.

Had he survived, though, or had they known he would, he probably would have run for and could have won additional terms ad infinitum. You don't earn zero political capital for ending the greatest economic and militaristic/political threats to the existence of the United States.
