It could definitely happen. Been saying it for years.

Cheney, Lieberman and Iran War Conspiracy (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-gareth-porter/cheney-lieberman-and-ira_b_60705.html)

I was never one of those who believed the Bush administration was getting ready to attack Iran in 2006 or early 2007. But it is now clear that at least Vice President Dick Cheney is conspiring to push through a specific plan for war with Iran. And Senator Joe Lieberman is an active part of that conspiracy... Can't be done. America doesn't have the military capability to fight and win a war with Iran with it's ongoing commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan, unless it is going to fight very dirty and not worry so much about collatorall damage or even it's own attrition rate.

After Iraq I would also question whether the US public have any stomach for it.

We don't have the stomach for it, Dalton. This is just fear mongering editorial work going on. The only way America and Iran would be at war is if Iran openly attacks us on our soil.. rather then what they're doing with the insurgency inside Iraq. That's the only way the American people would be behind another one. There is no way we are going at war with them without a provoked attack on their parts. These kind of articles continue to pop up in any case for their own purposes. It's the primary season so expect more of these conspiracies to appear.

I hope you're right. But you may find yourself eating those words.

The US will probably manufacture a crisis like the Gulf of Tonkin incident and use that as a springboard to launch aerial bombardment of hundreds of targets in Iran. Either this administration or the next one.

No-one is really considering a massive troop deployment in the country. Strictly an air war, more along the lines of Kosovo.

There are currently two carrier battle groups in the Gulf as we speak. The USS Enterprise and the USS Eisenhower. What are they doing there?
