I don't think this is what Jim Morrison had in mind though.
Woman sets fire to ex-hubby's schlong (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070822/od_nm/russia_crime_penis_dc;_ylt=Akbj99cRKtUF6NGrNpcP6ci s0NUE)

May I ask...
Why is it funny when a woman does something to mutilate a man's genitals yet we're all horrified by the female circumcision that continues to be practiced in other parts of the world?
Seems to me neither is at all funny.

In a sense Outy, you are right. Neither is funny.
However, anything that can be marked as an action against the male ego,
which is typically associated with the male package, is usually snickered
at and/or celebrated with the silly and immature glee of a 4th grader.
Followed quickly, of course, by really bad puns.

You could also make a case that because mutilation of male genitals is unheard-of, it makes it ridiculous, like the proverbial man biting the dog. It's absurd, which makes it funny. Female genital mutilation is not unheard-of, and while both are extremely horrible things to do to someone, male mutilation still has kind of a car wreck-type draw because it's so bizarre. Subversion of sexual power structure from male>female to female>male is also absurd, and isn't it true that when a woman whups up on her boyfriend or husband we all find the altered gender roles funny? Being amused is also often paired with surprise; it's a defense thing, especially in women.
Male genitalia is also kind of inherently funny. So is setting things on fire.

Some people believe very strongly that circumcusion is genital mutilation.
And Here's a tangentially related story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070820/od_afp/entertainmentbritain;_ylt=AnE6PlYPglGiVNBhdMMWIuIZ .3QA)!
I'm quite tired right now, so I just skimmed the article really quickly, and one of the words that caught my eye was "climaxed" in "The attack climaxed three years of acrimonious enforced co-habitation." For just a short moment, I thought this was about some kind of weird S/M game gone awry.

Yeah, I was going to comment on that as well, Moop, but I saw some scenery walk by and was distracted.

You are dead right. Schlongs, like farts, are funny and that is the end of it !

Yeah, Jakesters little article was pretty funny too. That probably wasn't the oddball, offbeat performance the dwarf had in mind. Though I'm sure his situation sucked. (Yes puns were intentional) :D
Also, in referance to the original artical. Maybe the guy asked his ex-wife if she wanted to smoke his cigar. So she lit it. Anyway, I'll bet that guy was a real flamer.
