Ok, I've been in this radio biz awhile. And though I've been told from the beginning that I'm talented, I've worked very hard for pretty long for success that has been slow in coming.
But that's often the way it is in pursuing an artistic career. You may have great talent. But until the right circumstances occur, the right people notice or the right bit of luck comes your way, it's a struggle. So, success in such fields often comes down to endurance. Are you willing to hold out until success comes? Are you willing to focus on it, and perhaps let other things you want in life slide?
In other words, how much do you want it?
I've been steadily employed in radio for awhile, but it always seemed that truly breaking through to the next level slightly alluded me. I joined the Army as a broadcaster, because I needed a place to continue steady, stable employment in the field, pay off college loans, and I wanted to travel while still young. And it was an interesting set of cirumstances, a series of doors that opened unexpectedly when I joined. It happened far faster and easier than it does for most.
Since in, I've been doing mostly radio work. I got sent to network here through less than ideal circumstances. But once it happened and I had a chance to show them what I can do here....
...I'm now a network radio DJ. My work has been picked out for what they want in an assignment to Eastern Europe...AND, when I get back, I'm getting an additional radio gig, to fill in for another network person, out of all the military jocks in Europe, while this other person goes downrange for six months.
I'm in heavy demand, y'all.
It's an amazing feeling. Maybe my pipe dream to be the first radio talk host to do a show from orbit isn't such a pipe dream after all.
Top that off, I'm about to be promoted AND the ol' love life has sharply picked up, with a lovely redheaded thespian I have met.
I look at all this, and say, "This is just what I wanted, just what I pictured. But how often does it all happen like you pictured?"
Blessings upon you all...
