Obviously, the CIA just hired some new guy to play bin Laden. Probably from the same pizza parlour where they found the guy who played Saddam.

Convenient isn't it? The timing?

Just when this administration is going to have it's feet put to the fire once and for all over this war, suddenly we have a "clear reminder that the terrorists want to kill us" splashed all over the media.

I'm sorry but it's a fake and I don't have to tell you who I think produced it.

Wouldn't finding Bin Laden be the best October Surprise ever for 2008? Personally, the video just goes to support one of my few freaky, paranoid conspiracy theories -- namely, that the terrorists we dig up are either found more than a little in advance of their announcements, or at worst that we're kind of just inventing them. I wouldn't put it past our current administration to be keeping Osama in a basement until the election.

Oh, then you should see that Zeitgeist: The Movie at its website.

As far as the pizza parlor theory..... perhaps we should close that particular one down!

I thought they found out spicy food was actually mysteriously good for your stomach lining?

Well, it's not the stomach lining that concerns me, personally. :OhWell:

Yes, but that is exactly what Bin Laden wants. He wants Americans to be constantly reminded of that fact, he wants them to elect warmongers, he wants them to get the feeling that it would be wrong for America to pull out of Iraq. Why? Because without the war in Iraq, it would be so much harder for him to recruit people. Bush is the best thing that could have happened to Bin Laden, and it's great to see how they both agree about one thing: There has to be war in Iraq.

As far as this video being fake, I don't see why. Because he looks healthy? Because his beard is dyed black? The only thing that would prove is that he's not hiding in some cave on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan but that he is living in relative comfort. Regarding him having diabetes, I was always under the impression that this was more rumor than fact (sort of like Hitler having only one testicle) and keeps being perpetuated by the media without a reliable source.

I kept reading exactly the same thing over and over before the last election. Sometimes I think that the fact that conspiracy theory A proved to be untrue should give a little indication that the very similar conspiracy theory B will also prove to be untrue, but I guess reality is just too boring. :D

Besides, if the administration had captured Bin Laden and managed to keep it secret, it would mean a level of competence well beyond anything they've demonstrated in the past 6 years.

Indeed. And after all, it's not like they kept the capture of Saddam Hussein a secret. After all, how could they have? You really think that all the soldiers involved in capturing him would have kept their mouths shut? And it's the same with Osama, should he ever be captured. In the Internet Age, it's practically impossible to keep anything like that under wraps.

In any case, I think it's best for the Bush administration if Osama is not captured. That way he always remains the evil bogeyman, who keeps plotting against the US, who could always be waiting in your closet with that deadly vial of anthrax that Colin Powell showed at the United Nations, waiting to poison you! If they do capture him, the world will see that he's basically just another guy. Then perhaps, America will not be afraid for a couple of days, before the country moves on and finds something or someone else to be afraid of. :D

See, I don't think it would be in their best interest to leave him out there forever. Until this video, who'd even thought about him recently? What the US really needs is an enemy who keeps threatening and attacking small backwater towns or people and never disappears from the media, but isn't captured. Osama Bin Laden doesn't attract enough attention; the best thing he could do now (in terms of the continued fear-dominance of the Republican Party) is to either reestablish himself as a continual threat or to get captured, be dealt with, and leave a wide network of other avenging terrorists behind him who can make vague threats about bridges immediately following the victory celebrations.

This would be easier if we lived in the same state.

Therefore: Jake! Make a video! Cast yourself as Bin Laden! You can, I don't know, threaten the virginity of the nation or something.
