And if these people start melting into globs of pinkish goop that spreads over
everything that breathes, I'm heading North. :OhWell:
Mystery illness strikes after meteorite hits Peruvian village. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070918/sc_afp/peruhealthoffbeat)
How freaky is this! It's like a second chapter for the Andromeda Strain novel/movie.

Yeah I read this. I was waiting for Spacey to post it.
I think they need to contain it somehow and figure out what the gas is. Maybe there is a message in the gas?

Perhaps an alien spacecraft was flushing its toilet as it was flying overhead

Why is it all the wierd shit always happens in some little bumfuck village in Peru or Venezuela? Somehow I don't believe they're the most credible witnesses out there.

Zombie OUTBREAK!!
Let's not kid ourselves but this is obviously the case.
I'm going to Home Depot and Wal-MART and stock up on chainsaws and fuel and guns.
AIM FOR THE HEAD!
Hopefully, they're the shambling kind and not the fast-running kind.
Z-Day is at hand!

I think the hardest part of the zombie apocalypse will be pretending I'm not excited.

Actually, the article pretty much explains what's going on there, but last paragraphs are always the least popular paragraphs of any article. :anismirk:
"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.
So the most likely explanation is that this gas didn't come from the meteorite but that this is actually volcanic gas that escaped through fissures opened by the impact, possibly pushed out by the boiling water.

Can't we just revel in our fear of Diseases from Outer Space (tm)?

So the zombie gas occurred when particles from the meteorite became mixed with primordial gas from Earth. Bonded together they form a highly potent and reactive combination for zombification! Frightening! You wonder how come this hasn't happened before, you know?

Well, if you don't get to a plane or a boat, get to Hearst Castle!
It's on a hill by itself, partially fenced in, and it's just flat-out swanky there.
But don't tell anybody!

This sounds suspiciously like something I've seen on Theta.
