Well, not exactly spam. I have no stake in if you check the website out or not.

Anyway, there is this website based in Russia that allows for music downloads for dirt cheap. It's called AllofMP3.com (http://www.allofmp3.com).

Anyone using it? Heard of it?

I sort of stumbled onto it last December. I had to dig around and figure out if it is legal or not first. And it is legit. Apparently there is this huge copyright loophole in Russia that allows for people to destribute copies of songs as long as they own the original (or something like that). And since you are paying in rubles instead of dollars, you can get a full album for about $1.20.

Thought I would share.

I don't consider it spam. And yeah, I've heard of it, though I completely forgot about it until you mentioned it just now.

I've used it quite a bit to get albums that I can't find in other places....they do have an amazingly wide selection, but I just feel bad using it sometimes. Then again....I am paying someone for this music right?

Right?

Hey, considering 1/3rd - 2/3rds of my collection of music is from stuff I have...um...liberated from other people computers, at least I am paying for something.

(Here at work, all old computers go through me, and I check each for good music...it's ahh company policy, yeah.)

Anyway, it's paid for. So i don't have a problem with it.

Been digging through the site trying to find something I like today. No luck.

Aside from it being foreign in origin and shady at best, it really is a remarkably useable site. The on the fly bitrate conversion, which is a godsend for people like myself who like to keep a 320kbps copy and a 128kbps copy of all their music, is something I wish a lot of other music download sites offered.

The Checklist feature is nice if you keep an eye on a lot of bands and forget what new albums come out when.

Downloading the songs themselves is a hassle, if you go the browser method, but they do have that software application that you can use to basically set up a download queue for all the music you might want.

Minion: Suggests Cncrman download something by Spoon or The Notwist or M83 or Iron & Wine or even, if you're feeling quirky, some Architecture in Helsinki.

Oh yeah....and am I the only one who thought they had alluded to this site on a recent episode of The Office? It was the one where Dwight gets a concussion and is being nice to everyone. I remember him telling Pam "I know this really great Russian website where you can download songs for like three cents."

Minion: Does watch that show a little too often.

I caught that too.

On a side note, that was a great episode. Jim spraying Michael and Dwight with the water bottle like they were two bad dogs. hehe

So how are we sure this site is legit?

Through the beauty of legal loopholes and international customs laws.
