Thread for general movie news stories that don't merit their own thread.

First up:

'The Queen' writer pens sequel. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7023539.stm)

I haven't seen The Queen yet, but after so much positive buzz, I'm hopeful this film will be good too.

Isn't this about 10 years late or 10 years too early? I mean, I understand that Nirvana is going to carry on like the Doors and all but this stuff is best done up front or 20 something years down the line when the artist has reached mythic proportions.

I'm not really sure about this one...

Hopkins to play Hitchcock? (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2007/10/22/anthony-hopkins-to-play-hitchcock-and-hes-got-the-voice-ready/)

He's a great actor and all, but I'm not sure he can pull this one off. It'll probably be worth a look either way.

No longer a real American hero...

From IMDB.com

G.I. Joe Gets a Makeover for Movie

Concerned about the current negative image of the American military in many countries, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, the toy manufacturer, have decided that in their forthcoming film featuring comic-book patriot G.I. Joe, the character will become part of a multinational force, the London Daily Telegraph reported today (Tuesday). Even the character's name has become an acronym for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, the newspaper said. Word of the makeover is likely to anger U.S. conservatives, the Telegraph noted. The film is due to open in 2009.

I dunno. On the one hand, this is a classic character that should be portrayed as he is. On the other hand, portraying an American military character as the kind of "shoot first ask questions later" kinda guy that existed in the 80s probably wouldn't work if they're going for a more updated feel, especially in today's closely connected world.

This sounds interesting, especially after the success of the Night Watch films.
