Yes!!! I have been saying this quote for years back in the Corona message boards and I have been finally heard! Robert Orci- one of the writers for the new Trek movie has admitted it!
http://trekmovie.com/2007/10/08/interview-orci-talks-casting-characters-canon-and-more/#comments
TrekMovie.com: J.J. [Abrams] has said the film is Spock-centric, but does the young Kirk have as big a role as Quinto’s Spock?
Roberto Orci: Totally! It is Lennon and McCartney. However Spock’s role is key in that we also have Nimoy. Having said that Kirk is Star Trek and he is as essential.
Yeah! At least this guy is a true fan of Trek and he actually knows what the silent majority have said before: KIRK IS STAR TREK- enough of that baldheaded moron Picard, enough of that hag Janeway, enough of that wimpy Archer, enough of that depressing Sisko- Kirk is the best captain of all time- he could kick everyone else's asses combined! Put TNG in the trashbin- it was nothing more than Berman and Braga's ego trip anyway...

I DO love Kirk, but Picard would never stay in a trashbin for long before calculating his way out of it through British charm and accent. Kirk would just stand there punching things and trying to score.

Yeah EXACTLY!!!
What more do you need when you have an average one trick pony of an over-actor to stand for an entire 30+ year franchise!
*sarcasm over*
Kirk was and is a 2 dimentional farce of the hero "icon" Your jumping for joy that some poor nobody schlub actor will be tapped to re-hash tired old Kirk-isms in this utterly pointless movie that does no acknowledge any of the accomlishments of the rest of the franchise.
Yeah, you know, 3 seasons of TV that flopped marvelously with everyone except fanboys, followed a a few decent movies. (yes a few. 2 and 3 to be precise) stacks up so well against 14 or 15 something seasons of good TV that kept the Star Trek Universe in the mainstream.
Without TNG, DS9 and Voyager, your precious vision of "Kirk Trek" would have dissapeared quietly into oblivion. Relegated to a ultimate in comedic science fiction in a back corner booth of your friendly neighborhood convention.
Give credit where credit is due.
It's not Kirk Trek.

......BURN!!!!!
Thank you, Kaeos. Kirk is an ok character at best...Picard was far better and like K just said, if it was not for TNG...There would be no Star Trek except 3 seasons......But once again... !!!BURN!!!!

Yeah, riiight...
The only reason why TNG even got on the air is because of the success of the TOS movies! Who is the lead character of those? Hmmmm?
KIRK- that's who!
And how about your beloved TNG movies starring that idiot bald-headed fop who has a French name but speaks with a Brit accent? They FLOPPED!!!
Simple question for you- how many TOS movies are there compared to TNG movies? I'll give you 3 guesses!
Let's face it- Picard was a moron. Kirk is intelligent, suave, a hit with women and can fight as well as negotiate and thats why he is back!
PWNED!

This is fun, get ready chief....
PWNED! I'm glad your able to acknowledge your status in this argument so freely. Good for you! http://www.empyron.com/vr/images/smilies/xtra/thumbsup.gif
TNG got on the air because of Berman's initiative to find a way and revitalize a DEAD franchise. ST IV was a marvelous flop. Star Trek would have gone NOWHERE after that movie, if not for Berman. And ST V and VI were nothing more than studio arrogance assuming they knew what a good Star Trek story was.
TNG was a huge success because of it's fresh ensemble that very successfully wiped away the tired old cliche's of Kirk, Spock, Checkov, Scotty and Uhura. Picard relaunched Trek AND pumped a breath of fresh air into science fiction on television that would set the stage for the next 20 years of the genre on the small screen.
You tout the litany of desperate sequals as a success? Give me a break. Star Trek The Movie was successful, but frankly not very good. 2 and 3 as I already pointed out were really the only good films, in so far as they didn't do more harm to the Star Trek lexicon than good.
So let me understand this. You would rather have seen no TNG, DS9 or Voyager and watched Star Trek fade away into obscurity simply because you refuse to acknowledge the character if Picard as good? Kirk had the diplomatic acumen of a Targ. Picard was a serious, tough inteligent character, but your Kirk-blinders prevent you from being able to acknowledge him.
Dude, you've taken the position that they should have never bothered with telephones, the telegraph was the greatest thing. Your clinging to big band swing music because you don't like all this new fangled noise.
Wake up man, Elvis is dead. Was he good for a while? Yeah absolutely. One of the best of his time. But much like your beloved Kirk, he got fat, old and irrelevant.
Would you like a fork for that humble pie?
Cool it down, boys. Your arguments are now spinning in the mud, so please don't post redundant stuff just to inflame the other.

Yeah, that's my job. :smirk:
I always liked Picard. He's an iconic science fiction hero, no doubt. I may not like the way P. Stewie disrespected Star Trek in recent years, but... I would still welcome at least one good TNG movie.
Nonetheless, James T. Kirk is the progenitor. He is the Starfleet captain who changed history, more than once, and redefined what it meant to be a starship commander. A great deal of what Picard, Sisko and Janeway were, was as a result of him.

I think Picard is much more suave than Kirk. As one of "the ladies," I'd go for Picard over Kirk any day

HAHAHAHA! Still living in Berman's dreamworld are we? LMAO
Got a simple question for ya- who is the lead character in this new movie? :p
Cat got your tongue? Figures!
If Picard is so influential how come they aren't making a movie about him? Because NEMESIS flopped! Nobody wants to watch a bald headed gay guy and his stupid clone!
As far as cliche's go- what kind of personality did Picard have? Nothing- he was bald- thats it. The rest of his crew didn't have anything either- Riker was a plot device, Data could tap dance and Worf had a lobster on his head! The TNG movies sucked!
The success of STIV (The Voyage Home) was what helped to launch the TNG series, not the other way around, pal.
After the box-office success of the Harve Bennett-produced Star Trek-based movies, Paramount in 1986 decided to create a new Star Trek series. Roddenberry initially declined to be involved but, after being unhappy with early conceptual work, came on board as creator. The creation of Star Trek: The Next Generation was announced on October 10, 1986. The show was, unusually, broadcast in first-run syndication rather than running on a major network, with Paramount and the local stations splitting advertising time between them.

And since you seem so out of the loop I'll give you some more info you never knew existed- there was going to be a new Trek tv show featuring Shatner as Kirk called Star Trek Phase II- they were about to go into production but then they decided to make the Star Trek movie instead. Thats how influential Kirk and company were and still is! TOS broke new ground- it introduced a multi-racial cast for the crew and was a milestone in tv history- more people around the world know who Captain Kirk is compared to Picard.

Got anything to back up your silly reasons? I didn't think so!
PWNED again!
HAHAHAHA! I love winning! This is too easy!

Don't you have anything else better to do?
What does Picard being bald have to do with anything!?
Why do you compare the movies to the seasons because clearly you have the original ST lasting...3 seasons....And TNG lasting I think 9!!
Look....they WERE going to do another TV series....But somehow...It did not work... I wonder why? :headscratch:
All Kaeos is saying is that for him, TNG is far better. I tend to agree with that too. It was around the time I was a kid and learned to like it a lot. I have tried to watch the original and find myself looking for the nearest noose...
Yes, they are making another ST with Kirk. Point for you. But it is about going back in time...AGAIN. -1point. I would prefer NOT to see Picard in another film. Some things are best for TV then movies and likewise. Everyone has their own tastes, man. Breathe.....Just Breathe.....
It seems were all fans here so why dont you just calm down, watch some of the old ST and drool over the new one!
Everyone should calm down. Nothing new is being discussed here, so that's that.
