I just stumbled across this really weird web page:
http://www.clarifythetruthinchina.com/

It took me a while to figure out what the page was about, and then I realized, it was about Falun Gong, the "spiritual movement" (some call it a "religion", while others call it a "cult"), which - as you probably remember - got some publicity due to the fact that its followers have been persecuted in China in recent years.

In any case, no matter how one perceives the Falun Gong movement and its treatment by the Chinese government, this is a really strange web page. Its purpose is to help you call people in China to convince them that Falun Gong is really great. So it gives you a little Chinese course with simple phrases such as "The whole world knows Falun Dafa is good."

It even provides sound files, so you can just call someone in China and play the sound file to them. You don't have to say a single word in Chinese to convince them of the greatness of Falun Gong. I'm sure this really works, seeing how happy it usually makes people to receive pre-recorded phone calls.

The funniest part is this: Feedback From China Regarding Our Overseas Phone Calling Efforts (http://www.clarifythetruthinchina.com/index.php?article_file=stories/feedbakfromchina.html). Here, we find supposedly real testimonials from people who received these phone calls. After getting one phone call, they already admit "Jiang Zemin's days are numbered." (I thought Falun Gong had claimed to be a non-political movement) and people are immediately willing to talk openly about Falun Gong after getting these calls. Yes, I'm sure this really happened. :smirk: I guess that telling the truth about testimonials is not so important when you're "clarifying the truth". And where is the feedback that they probably get from the majority of Chinese people such as "Why the fuck are you calling me at 2 in the morning???" :D

Beyond that, there are some parts of the web page that really remind me of the weird rambling that you can find in texts by Scientology. The main difference is that on this web page, you get it for free.

In any case, if any of you feel like calling their favorite Chinese restaurant with the provided sound files, let me know how it went. :D
