I mean, complain all you want about what you think of Craig,
but shouldn't you at least give the guy a fair shake?

From IMDB.com-

Anti-Craig Bond Fans Call for 'Casino Royale' Boycott

Disgruntled James Bond fans have set up a website campaigning for new 007 Daniel Craig to be stripped of the iconic movie role. Craig was announced as the successor to Pierce Brosnan's superspy last October and shooting began on new film Casino Royale last month. But die-hard fans of the franchise still hope to oust the British actor and replace him with a more worthy Bond - by urging cinema-goers to boycott the film when it is released. A statement on craignotbond.com reads, "Eon Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond. To add insult to injury, Eon cast a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond. Craig, described by The New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a terrible choice for Bond. If Eon Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!"

I actually blogged (http://www.deborahlipp.com/wordpress/?p=237) about this.

Well said, Kara.

I'm not overjoyed about Craig either, but at this point the deed is done... and I'm not going to deprive myself of the latest James Bond movie just because I'm sour about Brosnan being fired. Besides, Craig deserves a chance to prove himself. And I'm psyched enough about Giancarlo Giannini being in the movie, and the fact that they didn't cast Jessica Alba or someone of that ilk as Vesper Lynd. That rocks.

Somehow, I bet that whoever is behind this site is going to end up first in line on November 17 anyway.

I'm actually pretty interested in their timing for a reboot of the franchise. Die Another Day was a great way to end the old run of the franchise. It was #20, it paid homage to the entire series by having little bits and pieces of every Bond film that came before it (I was literally sitting in the theater saying to myself "Ok, that's Goldeneye, that's Living Daylights, that's Dr. No, etc.), and it was big and loud and exciting. I'm warming up to the idea of starting a new type of Bond, one that's not tied to the Bonds before it but still holds true to the idea of Bond. All the Bonds until now have been rooted in the Cold War Bond, but now they have a chance to recreate Bond for our time. Daniel Craig is definitely an interesting choice because he's not cut from the same mold that Connery, Moore and Brosnan were, he's got a different edge. All in all, I'm excited about what will come of all this.

Moore pretty much sums it up here:

I have no problem with this guy. I have never believed that Bond should be portrayed as a handsome, debonair man. Pierce Brosnan would never have made it as a spy. He's too noticeable. While not the most popular Bond, my personal fav (after Connery) was Timothy Dalton. He was edgy, he looked like he could be dangerous, but he was good with the ladies. I always thought Bond should be someone that was not exactly comfortable to be around. This is a man who kills to protect the world. He is a man who has to be unnoticed and willing to do what needs to be done. Moore and Brosnan never really hooked me as Bond. So I say, give the guy a chance. If he sucks, well, there's 20 other movies to watch.

ya know...

I'm pretty disgusted at all this Craig bashing. Hell, there hasn't been one damn piece of footage released with Craig as Bond before people were already bitching about his selection.

I saw him in Layer Cake (it had NOTHING to do with cakes...*confused*) and I thought he was a damn fine actor. Rugged. Handsome. Could very well make for an excellent Bond.

Poor guy has had the worst go of it from Day One. Nasty carpings in the press suggesting he's "ugly"; mocking him for daring to wear a life vest aboard a speedboat and now he's broken two teeth during filming.

Khrist - give the guy a break!!!

That said....

the guy's a pussy and will in deed suck as Bond. I just read this afternoon of the latest and MOST serious transgression to date.

He can't drive the Aston Martin. It's a stick shift and he only knows how to drive automatic.

Oooooo---kaaaaay.

You've been selected out of thousands to be the new James Bond.

All the world is watching you.

Including dozens of rabid fan-boys.

And it never dawns on you to maybe broaden your abilities as to learn to drive a friggin' sports car???!!!!

My kid sister would drive circles around this clown in a stick!!!! In a Datsun B210 no less!!!!!

Seriously, this guy may have what it takes on the big screen - but he really needs to hone his PR marketing skills here - you'd think Brocolli and Wilson would have maybe given this poor guy a little couch time here.

Bond is more than just a role - it's a marketing tool - a BIG one.

I've been a supporter of Danny-boy since he's been announced. I don't care if he hates guns, can't drive a stick-shift (those things are tricky, I've driven one), or is ugly. I don't see what's so un-attractive about him, though I'm not attracted to men, so what do I know. But I've seen Layer Cake and Munich (Munich was really great, BTW) and I think he deffinately has it in him to be a great Bond. And I don't care about all this PR marketing stuff even if other people do for some reason. All I expect from him is to give a good performance.

I kinda remember everyone saying what a terrible Batman Michael Keaton would make, and that turned out pretty well

I dont understand why people are calling Craig a "wuss"...

I'm wondering if any of the same people had ever seen Roger Moore's work prior to Bond. Also, has any of the Brosnan-ites ever actually SEEN an episode of Remington Steele? The character was a quintessential wuss-puss poser man. Oh, while we're at it -- "Flash Gordon" and "Darby O'Gill and the Little People". Nuff said.

Layer Cake was grittier than anything I've seen previous Bonds do.

You have a problem with Darby O'Gill and the Little People?

Not so much Darby O'Gill, but I got major problems with those dirty, no-good 'little people'!

I don't think the Broccoli's are going to be too worried. In the movie business any publicity is good publicity and Casino Roayale (or the cast, or the new Bond, or the locations etc. etc.) are certainly recieving more column inches in newspapers in the UK than I can remember for any Bond film since the Living Daylights. And yes, that includes GoldenEye after the seven year Bond absence.

And as for the life jacket. Unfortunately the UK is going the same way as the US, which is that it is overly litigious and has therefore lost it's balls to actually do anything. The Health and Safety executive would have been all over that and insisted for legal and insurance purposes Craig wear a life jacket.

The stick shift thing is a bit wierd though as, unlike the US, 99% of people in the UK drive stick. Automatics are few and far between.

If you listen to the audio commentary on Goldeneye, the guy just couldnt handle the stick shift on the DB5. If you watch the scene when Bond is pulling up to the Casino in Monte Carlo, you can see Brosnan bringing the car coming to a clumsy stop.

One of my friends brought this up at the weekend and we discussed an "Internet Test". I mean, you have to pass a test to be allowed to drive a car. I have to be passed as competent by the Financial Services Association every 12 months to do my job and so on....

So everyone should be made to take a test to prove they are not a total retard before they are allowed on the web !! Sort of a "Surfing Licence" :smirk:
