Okay. I know the guy has two posts and that they're both blantant self-promotion/spam, but...well, damn. He put the thread in the correct forum and is polite and grammatically correct. And damn if the covers for ish #2 aren't pretty.

You know, I definitely couldn't fault any moderator on the board nuking the thread as spam. Even I have to admit it's at least in a gray area as far as that's concerned. I do however believe that the book would be of interest to most readers here. Being small press we spend a lot of time having to pimp, it's an ugly side to the gig LOL. Having said that I'm certainly willing to answer any questions about the book or the comic business as I see it (from my limited experience LOL). I only came across this forum the day I posted this thread and embarrassingly must admit that I'll probably be doing more reading here than posting for a while until I get caught up. :o

Wow. And you came back! I'm not a mod, but you've earned my seal of approval. Next time I hit a comic shop, I'll check out your books.

I have no real issue with any independent or third party creator or crew doing advertising on the forum as long as they do it like this, nice detailed and straight to the point. Extra credit for being so polite too.
Very nice artwork too. I just tossed it on my pull list, and I'm definately looking forward to it, thanks.

Hello all. Here's the preview for issue 3. There'll be more juiciness to come including covers shots, etc. Due to a glitch this issue didn't appear in the last issue of Previews. It will however be in the next issue out shortly. As soon as we have the order code, we'll post that as well.

Hello McKracken. I personally will not be, but I'm not 100% sure about the rest of the guys. Hopefully we'll have some news up on our site at th3rdworld.com very soon about this and any other cons.

Here's a couple banners with the order number for issue 3 (JAN083881). Note that you're not too late to the party if this is your first look at Space Doubles, there's still time to place orders for all three current issues.

how far in advance are you with the art, and what are the current crop of "book requirements" that Diamond places on small publishers? I've always wondered, since I have dealt with Diamond in the past and have nothing good whatsoever to say about them.
I will never distribute through them again.

Hello again McKraken. Minus a few tweaks here and there, we essentially had the first four (of five) issues complete before we even brought issue 1 to Diamond. I believe for issue 5 there was just a few minor changes to the gray-scaling needed in one of the two stories before we put it all together. As far as book requirements, you basically need to sell yourself and your book to them. I think I read somewhere that they need to be convinced that you'll sell an average of 500 copies of your title, and have it in their warehouses on a consistent basis. That number may be higher now though, I'm not sure. The most difficulties we've had were dealing with a rotation of new account managers. I believe we've had four different account managers at this point, some of these during our "adjudication" period for Space Doubles. This meant we had to do the song and dance a couple times over. It also made it difficult to get answers if we needed them quickly. Things eventually worked themselves out however, it was just a bit of a struggle to get there. I think the fact that we have four people at Th3rd World managing the project makes it a bit easier for us. If one were tackling the entire process of creating a comic and dealing with the business end themselves, they'd probably end up with a lot less hair and require truckloads of Pepto Bismol. I know many may do this, but personally I work full time at a "day job", so free time is not something I have a lot of.:eyebrow:

my publishing company did 4 "one-shots" they were all very different genres and styles and no title was ever repeated more than once and you're right, when you're the sole man running the ship, its gets extremely tiring dealing with the Diamond bullshit.... I always thought "hey arent you a distributor? so do your job and distribute my books" no... sadly that isnt the case, they are an exclusive agent and they have that "if we deem your comicbook unworthy, you're not getting distributed" attitude.
Hopefully I'll see Th3rd World at Wondercon in San Fransisco this Feb. and I'll buy what you have and tell them I saw you guys at Mania.com!
I'll also be a roving reporter for Chaotic Radio (Kaeos' Nowlive show) Saturday night at 7pm - 9pm Pacific ...hunting down people for him to interview live on air.

Yeah, you'd think things would be a bit more objective, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I know that Justin Robinson, our editor and one of the writers in issue two of SD usually goes to Wondercon, but again, I'm not sure at this point that Th3rd World will have a table. It's coming up very quickly. I'm going to shake a few doors and see what the scoop is.

Hello again Mr. McKracken.
It does appear that most of the cons that Th3rd World will be at will be in the latter half of the year. basically by that time we'll have enough product that will make it worthwhile to get a booth. Actually, it'll probably be a shared booth, those things are dang expensive.

Thanks McKracken! Did you get a chance to pick up issue 1? Sorry for the late reply on this. I didn't seem to have an email that this thread had been updated. It may have hit my Junk filter, though we know it ain't Junk.

I never found you guys at Wondercon and I looked... I saw that all the bags were marked for Deep Space or some such comic... I picked up one of those, a 25th Ann. of Groo the Wanderer, a Hellboy II Golden Army prequel comic from Dark Horse.
thats about it. Sad, I think your book would have done really well at the show... hoefully I'll see you at SDCC? I hung out mostly at Artists Alley, and only ventured into "the small press" area just to have a looksie.
