I went into this movie with pretty high expectations. I try not to go into movies like that because of the constant let down....That and anything with Vampires in it gets me all excited!

So, 30 Days of Night takes place in Barrow, Alaska. I personally lived in Alaska for 3 1/2 years, which is another reason I wanted to see this movie. Now, I do not know what it is, but put some crazy monsters in a cold ass place...That just equals fun!

Josh Hartnett did a decent job as the local Sherrif. Melissa George played his seperated Wife who just so happens to be stuck in Barrow for the month....The characters were somewhat of a let down. I wanted a little bit more depth with some of them, but that is just a small complaint.

The thing that made me really happy about this film is the Vampires themselves. I have never seen Vampires portrayed like this before on film. Most Vampire films you have the Vampire being somewhat slick, and fun. These are just vicious machines who only crave one thing, blood. They speak in some kind of different dialogue, all of their teeth are sharp and crazy looking and their facial structures are oddly different.

Not a bad movie, I was expecting a little bit more action and blood, but that is also a small complaint. The vampires are the highlight of this film. They stole this movie away from any other characters.

I would definatley recommend this movie. I would say you NEED to see it in theatres, but when it comes out on DVD, I say check it out.

I thought this was a pretty good movie, definitely one of the better vampire films in years. The characters didn't get a whole lot of development, but I think in this film that didn't matter too much. I'm not a huge fan of Hartnett but he was better than I expected him to be.

The best parts of the film were the vampires and the way they and the action sequences involving them were filmed. The look of the vampires is something we haven't seen before. They're not sexual beings at all like they have been in almost every vampire film since the 70's. These vampires are just killing machines who don't even care about creating more vampires (they don't want the competition). The full-out attack on the town was fantastic and horrifying to watch. I don't know about you GD, but I thought there was more than enough blood and gore. Just enough to gross you out, but at the same time not enough to overdo it or to not leave anything to the imagination.

It's not an amazingly fantastic film, but it's a lot better film than most others in the horror genre.

Agreed. Like I posted above, the vampires were the highlight of this film and I think other vampire movies that will come out need to take a step back and look at the Vampire Mythology at a different angle, like Steve Niles did with this movie.

I rather liked the ending and found it to be a good way to close this movie out. I also agree with you that Hartnett was not that bad of a choice. I like some of the characters and kind of wish we had a little bit more time with them, but hey, the Vampires are the true stars of this film.

I just can not get over how cool the Vampires were!!! The more I think about the movie the more I like it...

I found the ending to be very similar to Blade 2 and it seems the vampires themselves were modeled on the reapers of the aforementioned movie- I definitely prefer this throwback compared to the suave Bela-Lugosi type vampires that have permeated over the decades. All in all I found the film to be adequate in its intent- it served up a few suspenseful chills but I found the whole thing to be somewhat pretentious and some plot holes you could sink your teeth into (pardon the pun), like how did Hartnett's younger brother manage to escape without a scratch on him or how the survivors able to gather in the diner calmly while everyone else was getting slaughtered.

Also, wouldn't the state authorities be alerted if there was a power failure in that remote area? It seems to me that most of the plot points were somewhat artificial.

It was a good movie to pass the time with but it wasn't a great one.
