Underworld Prequel Discussion (2009)

Plot Summary: The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires known as Death Dealers and their onetime slaves, the Lycans. In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them. Lucian is joined by his secret lover, Sonja (Mitra), in his battle against the Death Dealer army and his struggle for Lycan freedom.

Release Schedule: No word yet but most likely 2009.

I read this on a bunch of sites today, and they all seemed very opposed to the idea of another Underworld movie.

Personally, I can't wait. I really liked the first one, and I loved the second one.

I also enjoyed the first two movies, but I have to agree with the majority of people here saying, WTF are you doing a prequal!? I mean, we kind of already know what happens, why cant they movie forward?...Oh, well. Depending on what happens I might go see this...I just have a problem with this whole concept...

Len Wiseman has quite a few projects lined up..Big name projects. Kate Beckinsale also has a lot of projects and job opportunities at the moment. Both have rather full schedules at the current time.

I believe that this third film will focus on the past(prequel), giving Wiseman and Beckinsale a chance to complete those other projects. When they both have an open window with time set aside, they will then do a Underworld 4 picking up where Underworld 2 ended...

Understanable. But instead of just letting someone else take the reins and rush this into production, why not wait? Wait untill bothe schedules are free. I am willing to wait too!

from what i read in the talkbacks, everybody wanted Kate Beckensale back in tight leather pants and they didnt give a fuck about the plot or the script, which says loads about those talkbackers.... I dont mind a prequel as long as the werewolves are covered in fur (not the furry mohawk look the Lycans had on the first two flicks) and kick some ass against the vampires.

The first two movies were okay for me- nothing spectacular but a good time waster.

I think this is a mistake- why bother to make a prequel for this? We already know what happened since the first two movies explained the history already so why even do it? :headscratch:

I found the first one mildly interesting. I never finished the second -- I fell asleep and forgot about it until I needed to return the DVD, and I really didn't care that I'd not seen the end.

Beckinsale is always unbelievably hot in movies, but something about her annoys the hell out of me when she's doing interviews or whatever.

Once I heard there was going to be a prequal to the Underworld movies, I decided to sit down and watch the first and then the second.....I came to the conclusion that yes, I would like the franchise to movie forward, but after watching the first two films again, I realized that this is not that bad of an idea. Not only are they going to be bringing in new characters but also a new director which means a new look at the Underworld series.

I still think the the first one was much more enjoyable then the second. The sequal was not that bad but it lacked depth into the characters the the first one showed brief glimpses of. Also, the characters in the second I did not care at all for and were not memorable, but the first one was filled with badass characters!!

I am not sure why the first one was such a good movie. The werewolfs were not all that great and neither were the vampires, but the way it was written and filmed made the film unlike any other silly vampire or werewolf movie.
