From SHH - This is not a black and white picture, that's a black suit.

Man in black3? Back in Black? Now more important question - Is that Tobey or Topher? The official site says it's Spidey, but hey you never know.

The intornet is bubbling over tonight with people speculating that it's Venom, but I've got a fiver that says it's just a stylized pic of Spiderman.

The speculation, however, is that since

(A) you can't see his mouth area, where Venom's mouth would be, and

(B) you can't see his chest, where the Venom logo would be,

that it may be Venom. That's what the speculation says.

Personally, I think it's just a cleverly-composed Spidey shot designed to evoke just such speculation.

Well, it's not quite what I was hoping for in the famous black costume. Still, I love the first two movies (minus the train scene in the second film). I'm looking forward to this. In my opinion, Raimi has managed to create a great live action comic book. These aren't the deepest comic book films, nor the most thought-provoking stories, but they are a lot of fun and really, thats what movies are all about.

If Quint is saying this is a bit of stylized fanboy photoshopping from the movie Alien(I'm paraphrasing here) Then this person is pretty good at what they do
http://aintitcool.com/pics/unproven-venom.jpg

As for the black spidey suit, remember Peter did wear the black suit for a while which is what caused the problem in the first place:smirk:

First View of 'Spider-Man 3' Posted

Sony Pictures on Thursday distributed the first poster art for Spider-Man 3, a movie that is not scheduled for release until May 2007. The poster shows Tobey Maguire, wearing a black Spidey costume, perched precariously on a pillar at night, while rain falls around him. The poster quickly was picked up by numerous film and sci-fi websites. Garth Franklin, who runs the DarkHorizons.com website, commented, "OK, so it's not as cool as, say, that Batman Begins poster with him swooping down from above ... but, as superhero teaser posters go, it's one of the best in years." And Joshua Tyler, editor-in-chief of CinemaBlend.com, remarked, "It's a huge departure from the previous two movies which were bright, and red, and blue. It's also gotten me all tingly about Spider-Man again. The image is just completely cool."

So apparently it's not a black and white pic, it's actually Spidey in the black costume...

Slammy, you probably know by now, but the black suit is supposed to tease us that Venom is coming. Sony sent me an email with that pic of the suit and it said something like "fans of the comic book will know what a black suit means!"

Hmmmm....the pic really looks black and white though. If that really is the black costume, I'd have to say I'm rather underwhelmed. It doesn't look quite right with all the webbing design from the blue and red costume. I think it'd look better if it was closer to the comic design, which was just plain and sleek - looks more mysterious that way.
But would they really make the black suit look so similar to the old one? The fact that the suit looks so similar makes me think it's a black and white photo, or "highly stylized" photo, as someone mentioned, of the old suit.

No, the Sony email was also very insistent that the image was NOT b&w, but was a picture of Spidey in a black suit, "and comic book fans will know what that means!"

Yes. It means Sony has little imagination, and that they SUCK. :)

Take a look at Spidey's eye:

At first I thought it was a sideways reflection of a grinning Goblin, but now I'm convinced it's a reflection of a couple of buildings. The one on the right shows some curvature because it's near the end of Spidey's lens, and therefor its door somewhat resembles a mouth. You can also make out a smokestack on the roof.

I've seen a lot of debate about this on other sites. Seems pretty obvious based on the first shot released (and not photoshopped, thank you Forcey) that the reflection on of the raised webbing on his arm.

Maybe Spidey's suit get sprayed with some sort of black chemical that changes the suit into a symbiote. Hopefully it mutates into the cooler looking black suit eventually. Keep in mind though, I'm only right like 98.7% of the time.

This is something like the 5th time he's gotten his chest and stomach cut up in 3 movies. When is the guy going to learn to wear better body armor than spandex? He doesn't have to ditch the suit but wear some plastic armor underneath it for Christ's sake!!!

You like seeing a guy a half inch from needing his intestines pushed back in? If that's a requirement by women in general, I'm going back to the Catholic church and becoming a priest. You sick, sick bastards.

Looks like it was taken during some downtime. I would doubt he'd be wearing that coat for the story. Whether or not it is the real deal or a photoshopping of something from SM2 makes little difference in my estimation considering the fact that Church spilled the beans on who the other villain is. Whether or not these are production stills from SM3, what he said means there's still truth to story behind them.

Well, there are some new books on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/105-4984943-1738038?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=spider-man+3&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go) that have the new green goblin pictured. The one for Venom looks like an animatic still, so I'm still not convinced that's the final look for him.

Kaeos
