This kind of thing is not un-heard of in a world of gaming that increasingly becomes more corporate. Still, this is causing a maelstrom in the Gamespot community and being echoed across various gaming sites more openly.
I'll link you here for the story. It has the "original" comment by someone titling himself gamespot pasted in the article below and it's at a third-party site meaning it's a place where the different reviewers from difference sites (Gamespot, Gamespy, 1up, etc) are meeting to discuss the issue. Check out the comment section of the link. There's a few reviewers in there discussing corporate advertisers getting in the way of credible reviews.

As I say, this isn't too surprising as so many gaming sites get merged into corporate powerhouses. IGN has made no bones about it in their podcasts that they get more exclusives from big developers if they rate their scores higher for certain games.
