Hey, I guess everyone's happy now. The guy who owned the goat got what I assume is a pretty good amount of money for the animal and the guy who focked the goat is happy too. Of course, nobody's asking the goat, but at least it's not going to get slaughtered anytime soon.

And isn't this actually sort of biblical law? I remember some passage in the Bible that basically says that a man who rapes a woman should take her as his wife, so the logic behind this case is similar.

Exactly. This is the way I see it. My hat's off to the man. Who among us would own up to our responsibilities in this way?

I just hope their marriage can overcome the obvious cultural differences. That can be really difficult. There are so many questions.

Will the goat's parents come to accept Mr. Alifi as a son in law? Will it be difficult for their children, being from a mixed parentage? What happens when she loses her youthful attractiveness? Will the eyes of Mr. Alifi stray?

Young people today. Honestly.

No! You athiests need to do more homework. We kill the man. We kill the goat. Finally, we do NOT eat the goat (or the man for that matter).

However, we're in an enlightened age, where animal rights activists are trying to transfer human rights also to animals, so why shouldn't that apply to religious law as well? Deuteronomy 22:28: "If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." Replace "girl" with "goat" and "father" with "owner" and you're there. :D

What happens when the goat sues for divorce, as will undoubtedly happen in this case? Maybe PETA can branch out into divorce law . . . establish some precedents . . . however, always remember there is a diaper fee for chimp brides . . . :)
