Poor Bill! I offer you leftover bouche noel. (That's a chocolate/coffee cake invented by the blessed French that my mom makes every year. Mmmmh.)
So I'm up to about 25-30 feet before I start swerving too much to correct myself. The insides of my lower legs are bruised from me smacking them on the pedals and my shoulders and hands ache from holding onto the handlebars until my knuckles went white. BUT I RODE A BIKE.
Now I need to learn how to do it for any length of time and I may get to skip the bus. The car's still out of commission and I don't foresee it getting fixed anytime soon; the dealership's swamped and understaffed right now. Even better: the door latch, which they think is the problem, costs $450. AGH. VOLKSWAGEN DEALER, I GOTS NO MONEY! I wonder if I can offer my soul instead?

I know how you feel, KV. My step-mother passed away on Sunday night. She had been ill for quite a while and the hospice nurse was give her morphine on a very regular schedule. We has the funeral on Wednesday. I think that my dad is OK. He hasn't done much in the past 18 months except take care of her, so there was a sense of relief.
On a happier note, my brother and his family are visiting from England for the holidays. I finally got to meet my 16 month old niece. She is one of the cutest kids ever!! And my nephew is adorable with his little British accent and bright red hair.

Man, Trix, condolences to your family as well. :o
Trix and KV, I wish I could hug you guys.
My grandpa died about 7 years ago and it still kills me. My grandma was late showing up for our Christmas get together on Tuesday because her boyfriend kept her out late at his family's house the night before. After an hour with my family, he's asking her if she's almost ready to pack up, so they can go see his family again. He has been acting like it's not a big deal when she doesn't take her alzheimer's medication, except that it is. The relapse that occurs when she is off them for more than a day or two does permanent damage. I think it's just more convenient for him when her wits are a bit scattered.
I'm going to stop now, but I've got quite a bit more rage tied to this man if anyone wants to hear it.
Oh, and my aunt let on that my grandma may have been having an affair when my grandpa was still alive.

Aaaaaaand when I got home today I found out that my duplex had been broken into. They smashed in through the back-door window and ransacked my bedroom. They must've only been looking for cash, of which there was none, because nothing was taken. TV, computer, game systems, DVD collection, all intact. So on top of that Merry Fucking Christmas, have a Happy Goddamn New Year as well.

Thanks, Bill. My dad seems to be doing OK, but I think that he is rushing things a bit. He's already taken off his wedding ring and when I asked about it he said that it was about time. It's only been a week. It's possible that he did a lot of his grieving while she was dying, but I have a feeling that this will all catch up to him in a little while and he will have a small breakdown.
