Ask me sometime, why I am losing faith in people, and I will point you to something like this:

Stick a fork in the human race - we're done. (http://www.usatoday.com/news/offbeat/2007-12-29-fake-essay_N.htm)

Girl won Hannah Montana tickets with fake essay

GARLAND, Texas (AP) — An essay that won a 6-year-old girl four tickets to a Hannah Montana concert began with the powerful line: "My daddy died this year in Iraq."

While gripping, it was not true — and now the girl may lose her tickets after her mom acknowledged to contest organizers it was all a lie.

The sponsor of the contest was Club Libby Lu, a Chicago-based store that sells clothes, accessories and games intended for young girls.

The saga began Friday with company officials surprising the girl at a Club Libby Lu at a mall in suburban Garland, about 20 miles northeast of Dallas. The girl won a makeover that included a blonde Hannah Montana wig, as well as the grand prize: airfare for four to Albany, N.Y., and four tickets to the sold-out Hannah Montana concert on Jan. 9.

The mother had told company officials that the girl's father died April 17 in a roadside bombing in Iraq, company spokeswoman Robyn Caulfield said.

"We did the essay and that's what we did to win," Priscilla Ceballos, the mother, said in an interview with Dallas TV station KDFW. "We did whatever we could do to win."

She had identified the soldier as Sgt. Jonathon Menjivar, but the Department of Defense has no record of anyone with that name dying in Iraq. Caulfield said the mother has admitted to the deception.

"We regret that the original intent of the contest, which was to make a little girl's holiday extra special, has not been realized in the way we anticipated," said Mary Drolet, the CEO of Club Libby Lu.

Drolet said the company is reviewing the matter, and is considering taking away the girl's tickets.

Sensationalism? Sure - but it illustrates the depth of the cancer in our society. Now, I advocate free speech all the way. We gotta have thick skin, folks.

This 'mother' broke no laws. But something inside me screams, "Punish this bitch." And another part says, "take back those tickets and give them to somebody with a grain of morality."

But - the six year old would be the one punished in doing that. Would that be fair?

How can we/do we hold the *rhymes with punt* mother accountable for her actions?

Bottom line? The Iraq War and the deaths of thousands is just a means (to some) to win tickets to Hannah Montana (WHAT THE FUCK IS A HANNAH MONTANA???!!! and why is she everywhere??!! - haven't the lessons of Brittney, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, yada...yada... taught us anything???)

Ironically, how much different are her actions from the corporations reaping billions off of this?

Where is Felix when I need him?

There has to be some punishment for the kid in the form of losing ill-gotten gains or we have done nothing to encourage honesty and good behavior in a child who is it a most impressionable stage. If there is no punishment for winning unfairly, what is this kid going to grow up to think about honesty and acquiring things in a forthright manner?

True.

And I don't know if you need to be borrowing Carni's *sarcasm* tag or not.

True, there is a life lesson opportunity here for the child. But to be fair, I don't think that at six, she was aware of whet she was doing - given we have a dumbass with a morally bankrupt compass for a mother at the helm.

How does one turn the lesson onto the mother - where it belongs?

Personally, even though no crime was committed, I think it would be true justice to mandate her to maybe visit a few services for real soldiers who have made real sacrifices.

Great. Another nomination for "Asshole of the Year", in the category of performance by a stupid bitch.

DO you think she'll get it or Lori Drew?

google Lori Drew if you aren't already familiar with that one.

Did the contest say it had to be a true essay and not a work of fiction? Still, the mom's a cnut.

Nah she's the latest cute little white blond girl who sings inane pop songs and who hasn't yet got knocked up by an old guy or shaved her head.

Last month or so, when she was playing in Dallas, I think I heard tickets where going to like 10X face value.

Chicken and the egg thing for me. I think it's sickening and ridiculous that "Hannah Montana" is even worth going to such lengths. The fact that little teen nothings are idolized is more disturbing to me than that "essay".

I say give her the tickets. She won fair and square. I'm sure that hers wasn't the only essay submitted that was chock-loaded with bullshit.

No. I was dead-serious (and I'm about to be dead-serious again). And maybe the best solution for the mom would be to get every media outlet to talk this up and say her name and town a thousand times from here until March and point out what a horrible bitch she is and how stupid-asses like her who should have been sterilized are ruining this country by teaching their kids "lie, cheat and steal to win something you're not deserving of just because you want it." When we didn't have that attitude is a time when America was great. Of all the things conservatives want to roll back to the 1950's, why is that one so explicitly missing?

part of me wants to think she lost her tickets because she specifically lied about her father dying in the Iraq war and not "just written an essay that was chock full of bullshit".
I'm sure many kids that entered that contest just wrote a bullshit paper, I think it was that she specifically mentioned her father dying in the war that lost her the tickets.

i also want to comment on how spoiled these kids are these days, they arent brats by any means but their parents spoil them bad.
take for example my 8 yr old nephew, who on christmas day said he was upset that he only got ONE big present... uh huh...we had to remind him that he turned 8 in November and mom and dad spent over $100 on a Star Wars Lego set for his birthday, and again for Christmas... my 8 yr old nephew has no value of money whatsoever and will cry and scream if he doesnt get what he wants.
Spoiled? ya-think?

I don't care that the girl won or lost the tickets. Like I said earlier, I think she's a victim here - to an ignorant excuse for a mother.

Newsworthy? Was anybody hurt?

Nah...

But that's not the point here.

At what point do we lose it all together? Where nothing shocks or appaulls us anymore? It isn't that the mother lied. People lie everyday. Even those closest to us.

It's that the example this 'mother' set for her daughter was:

1) There is no shame in dishonoring those who have given their lives, if Hannah Montana tickets are the reward.

2) There is no shame in defending your otherwise shameful actions, no matter how many people you dishonor or insult (same conclusion reached for the tasteless VT costumes)

3) Lying is okay, if to win.

4) Making up a story that your daddy died, in order to win - is okay.

I agree - nobody got hurt and let the girl have her tickets. Maybe Hannah herself can make a special announcement to her audience of thousands that evening and personally tell everybody not to worry - and make it a point to name this mother, congratulate her for her winning essay and let everybody know that it's okay - the father of her daughter didn't really die in Iraq, but let's maybe take a moment to recognize those who really did. Icing on the cake would be a spotlight on the mom as this was being said.....

Going OT for a second... is everyone here aware who Miley Cyrus' (aka Hannah Montana) father is?

That's right. Billy Ray Cyrus. Now, not only do we have to remember that this guy was the single shittiest act in all of the history of country music, we have to listen to his daughter, too. It reminds me of Khan...

From Hell's heart, I stab at thee!

I am troubled by the ethos dominating right now, that it doesn't matter what you do to "win", as long as you "win". "Winning" usually defined by obtaining something you desire.

This runs contrary to the moral grain, so many pearls of wisdom previously accepted as axioms.

The idea that such a thing has taken hold is frightening to me.

Whichever bitch is responsible for this, no ticcies for the kid.

I agree. The tickets should be taken away. It's great example to demonstrate to the 6 year old that dishonesty should go unrewarded. Which in turn, forces the mother to explain to her why the award was taken away from her. Of course, the mother would probably falsify that truth too. This 6 year old is only a victim of her and her mothers actions, and therefore disqualifies her from this contest.

The mother had to write it for her or tell her what to write. My six year old can't write a sentence without being told what to write and how to spell it.

I was reading Douglas Adams and Andre Norton at six. Everybody's different.

However, I think the tickets should be taken away and she and her mother should have to volunteer at a VA hospital.

WHY IS THIS NEWS?

Do I think the tix should be taken away? I don't care.
Do I think Hannah Montana should be taken away? YES!
Is it right to lie to get what you want? Why not? Someone else will.
Is it right that complete fuckwits are judging these essay contests and can't smell bullshit a mile away? Again....this is Hannah Montana, not Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

This Hannah Monatana crap! has gone to far!
I blame Disney, they did the same thing with Hillary Duff.
But children weren't that crazy as they are now.
These two are tone deaf, it's ashame so many children are so easliy brainwashed.
