Would you be willing to play those same games via DVD? (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060226/us_nm/leisure_games_dc)
I dunno. The DVD offerings might be fun.
But where is the joy of getting the racecar over the thimble?
I understand DVD players are more portable nowadays,
but there's something fun about the low-tech board games and card games.
For board games, I've played Chutes & Ladders, Candyland,
Monopoloy and Star Wars Monopoly, Scrabble, Chess, Mindtrap,
Win-Lose-Or-Draw, the UN-Game, and Bible Trivia.
For card games - contract rummy, poker, war, fish, freecell, uno, and bull.

I still bust out the old Monopoly for PSOne once in awhile.
It's fun. There's more replay value in it than say Win Lose or Draw or other Trivia games.

I'm a more sensual person when it comes to games. I love the feel and smell of the cardboard pieces, the metal markers when it comes out of a box stored in the closet for a few months. As a side note, if you love card type games you should try to get a deck of Hanafuda cards. Great Japanese game with many asian variations. Picture a cross between Fish, Hearts and Rummy. I play a Hawiian variation called Sakura, plus the cards themselves (more like cardboard tiles) are stunning.

Can anyone tell me why the hell you guys play Chutes & Ladders and not Snakes & Ladders? This has bugged me for years. I'm thinking it's a bible-bashing thing, the snake represents Satan in the Garden of Eden after all.

I used to play Uno a lot as a kid. Still do from time to time but mostly I've graduated to poker-for-money situations, usually Texas Hold 'Em.
Funny but true story about Uno. Back in the day, my brother and I used to play Little League baseball. There were these two brothers who were similar in age difference to us so we ended up on the same teams or at least in the same levels most of the time. Their family was from Mexico so, naturally, there was somewhat of a language barrier from time to time among our parents and other adult relatives. So, one time we were over at their apartment playing Uno. It was me, my brother, my mom, the brothers, their mother and their aunt. Their aunt had just emigrated from Mexico and spoke virtually no English. Their mother explained the game in Spanish finishing with the rule that when you get down to one card, you say "Uno!" Well, it turns out the aunt became very savvy at the game very quickly and was down to one card. What does she shout out? "One!"
