quizrocket.com popup ads?

Lately it seems like every time I view Mania (it happened again today), I'm getting a secondary pop-up page (an entire huge black colored pop up window much like Gorillanation ads) that is a quiz that reads "How Dumb are You?" in giant red letters with the word SMART crossed out and Dumb is replacing it.

what I want to know, is this happening to everybody here at Mania or do I have some spyware/adware on my PC that is doing it just to me?:headscratch:

its very annoying and I'd like not to see it.

It's happening to me most times I visit. I noticed the most common circumstance is when I click aimlessly in my browser window so as to regain control of it without hitting a link.

DJ, I understand text links and banner ads (although the ones that expand when you roll over them are fairly annoying), but i absolutely detest pop-ups. I thought they had mostly gone the way of the dinosaur because of blockers but I suppose not.

Just thought I'd let you know that ads which interfere with my browsing experience generally cause the response to the company or product being advertised opposite the desired one and I avoid it.

Oh, and for the record, Quizrocket.com insists on you giving them large amounts of personal information and allowing them to farm it out to whoever wants it in order to get the stupid results to their stupid quiz. So, if you don't want to be spammed, don't play Quizrocket games.

nah, I've gotten it probably 50-75% of the time I first go to the forum.

Guess it's just another money making thing for mania. I just close the new window and move on. :Dunno:

well that answers one question, its not spyware or adware its happening to everybody.

I dont want to come down hard on DJ and sound like the ass that I am, but Djedi, now that I know its happening across the board can we vote to pull the quizrocket ads? I'd much rather give my money directly to Mania than quizrocket.com to make the ads dissapear. can we do that?

If it makes you feel better (and it won't), I'm as annoyed as you are..In fact, I've been having Flash Player.ocx problems for the last week within the site everytime the "Double Dragon" advertisment plays...My IE browser closes down..and I'm forced to used Firefox (which is better but I prefer IE in the uploading news side of the site).

I'll pass this along to our techie though. Just saying, if you're annoyed by something like this, I'm probably annoyed too but it's not under my direct control.

I usually ask you or Daffy is another good person to ask (right...daforce, right?) for help on stuff or things because you actually take the time to talk to us little people, not that you'd actually be the correct person to air our frustrations on but I figured you could get it to the right person who pulls the strings. I was told earlier that this pop-up is a week thing and it should only be occuring once per 12 hours per user. If you guys get more than once, let me know and I'll pass that along too.

I just got it too. Just now. However, I am also getting TONS of hair loss ads too as I am going around the website. Are people into mania losing their hair too AND they are dumb? :)

I love the targetting hehe. Kind of lame but whatever makes mania cash so the site stays live.

I thought I would never say this but I actually miss the horror, film, scifi ads running on the site a lot in January/2007. It seems to be all gone now with the random exception.

my popup blocker is blocking "somthing" from getting through, i know its working because I hear the sound of a popup being blocked and an annoying line at the top of IE (twice) ...kinda like when i check out profiles at tripod.com, my popup blocker goes crazy blocking all this stuff. If its for hair loss ads... what gives?

click sites type http://ad.doubleclick.net/click
http://pn1.ard.yahoo.com then hit apply this should restrict
these unwanted sites that contain spyware, it seems to make this site more stable.
