Black Jack Geary's quest to return home the Alliance Fleet under his command continues. Problems big and small continue in his quest. Among the more minor but still potentially critical issues is that he just recieved a wakeup call between the different mindsets of good engineers and good fighting sailors. As a result, the fleet became critically short of some essential materials. But they arrived in a system where they were able to alleviate the problem somewhat.
But, as said before, minor issue. A major one is dealing with the forty ships who bolted from the fleet, following the lead of the usurper, Captaing "Fighting" Falco. In the ensuing deposition, all of the captains of the surviving twelve ships have been relieved and put under arrest, including the troubling but still alive Faresa and Numo. Most of those twelve ships came back heavily damaged, too, and needed extensive repairs. It's also revealed that Falco is insane. Plaine off the deep end. Bug#### crazy. So he's put under the care of the fleet medical staff for the time being.
But Geary has noticed this has helped solidify the fleet a bit more, so he has to consider his next moves. And he finds it's not all that easy. He has to contemplate more implications of alien manipulation of both the Alliance and the Syndicate. His relationship with Senator Rione has become more complicated. And she and the captain of his flagship and one of his closest advisors, Desjani, seem to be increasingly hostile towards each other.
The time has come to make another bold move, to get this Fleet home, as it looks like the Syndics may be bringing up their game. Played wrong, the coming moves could cost Geary all the marbles...
The explorations continue, the implications pile up and the stakes get higher in book three of the Lost Fleet series. It has in many ways become an endurance game. Can Geary and the fleet go the distance?
