I didn't know there were different types of monogamy. Are you sexually or socially monogamous? Is it ok to step out if you still return home every night? Is it ok to go with instincts or force ourselves into order?

Are humans meant to be monogamous? (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,339773,00.html)

I've long thought the human animal was never meant to choose a permanent mate. However, those from the intelligent design school of thought would probably argue there'd be no such thing as STD's if it were okay for us to bang every hottie we come across.

Personally, I really don't care if I'm meant to or not.

I'm just glad that I am. :smirk2:

I know some people that think monogamy is a type of wood.

Think of it in terms of the ecosystem. Being the top of the food chain, perhaps we should be. Animals that have natural predators probably can afford to not be because they are part of some other animals food chain. Perhaps if we had a purley monogamous system among humans the world would be in balance in terms of resources.

I'm sure I'm wrong on this, but it was a thought.

Actually, I'm sure monogamy by choice among humans isn't prevalent over monogamy by circumstance. Just look at Beauty and the Geek.

I think monogamy's the natural result of mutual jealousy. I'm not knocking it -- I don't think I could ever be anything else -- but it seems like what would logically happen after both partners place restrictions on each other.

This could be a part of it...

I think humans have become monogamous because they're lazy. Once you've gone through the hard work of finding someone who'll put up with you, why bother going through all that trouble again? :D

I think you're on to something here, Negs. Brains and hard work have been out of fashion in the states for at least a decade, so why work for sex when you can pay hookers $80k for it. :D
