Israelis ask Oscars to drop film about Palestinian resistance (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/689041.html)

It will be interesting to see whether or not liberal Hollywood stands firm or bows to pressure from a foreign lobby to cancel the nomination for the film "Paradise Now" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0445620/) in the Best Foreign Film category.

We shall see.

Maybe while we're at it we can drop "Munich" from the list too.

Ooo...and maybe we can take back all the Oscars that "Schindler's List" picked up.

Or maybe the Israelis can shove their censorship somewhere the sun doesn't shine.

You don't see any Israelis rioting or burning embassys over this now, do you? That speaks volumes to me. On a lighter note, I'm glad I got to watch that South Park episode the Catholic church got Comedy Central to ban. I didn't think it was any worse than many SP episodes. I understand the sensitivity to it by Catholics, though.

Maybe if everyone would stop taking themselves so damned seriously, we'd all be happier.

Nope, I just see Israelis kidnapping, torturing, bombing, and killing people without anyone raising an eyebrow over it.

You'd think that maybe the Holocaust would have taught some people some lessons...but I guess not.

Especially since this film, by all accounts, is very introspective and features the Palestinians asking tough questions about what they are doing and why. This is the sort of film that needs to be honoured, I think.

Of course, I haven't seen it, so my opinion is second hand at this point.

Uh, that's called "self defense." I mean, Israel is an island surrounded by enemies wanting them dead and gone. Quit avoiding the truth here. There is nothing wrong that wouldn't be resolved by the Muslim world giving up their irrational hatred of Israel. The Holocaust DID teach Jews a lesson, that they have to take care of themselves as the rest of the world will just turn their backs on them if it is politically expedient.

I thought it was called "pre-emptive strike".
