This is it, been studying for a couple months, now the time has come. Tuesday, April 9th, I reenlist. And because I've been sharing this journey with my listeners, they're conducting the ceremony on the air.

But that's not the biggie. April 9th, I go before the Non Commissioned Officer board. On that day, I will be promotable. Shortly after that, I will become a Sergeant.

But the board, even though I am ready, still is a big nerve wracking.

Prayers, vibes, etc greatly appreciated.

No problem. I'll send the good wishes. My advice, don't try to be "funny" and crack jokes in front of the board. :D

Good luck. You can prepare, and feel confident in your preparations, but proving it in front of others is still a challenge. I know you'll do well, though, and I'll keep good thoughts in mind for you.

Can we start calling you Sarge?

tstone

After I pin it on, sure.

:)

Thanks, all. Negs, you probably encounter something similar, going up for your belts, I'll wager...

I thought you liked it when I got the job done to the way too few pictures I have of you... Plus, they're only leg or head-shots. For the head shots, I blew one of them up to life sized so that I have a nice target to aim for.

...Sorry for completely derailing your thread, Trey. Oh wait. No I'm not.

Good luck bro! I know nothing about the military so I'll leave it at that. Go gettem soldier!

O Heavenly Father, please promote tstone to the position of Sargeant, and also please let him whip that board's ass, collectively speaking. Then, I would like an all-expense paid trip to Europe so I can stay with my friend Christian in Zurich, and go see tstone in Germany, Angeline and SCRR in Ireland, and...ahh, yes, Metuzalem in Scotland. :eyebrow:

Oh Dear Lord, three things I pray.

:headscratch: I think that was three.

Negs, I am thoroughly confused on exactly what a
Dan test is, but most certainly my friend, you have my thoughts and any prayers I may utter. :D

Trazalca
04-11-2008, 08:31 AM
I keep wanting to figure out what a Dan test is myself, but the only answers
that come to mind wind up being delinquently juvenile and stupid.

That said, if you poke a guy, and he doesn't respond, well, that MUST be Dan.

It's pronounced "Don" and it means "belt degree." So tonight I'm testing for my second degree black belt.

And although we call it a testing, it's really an "extravaganza" for the public. The "testing" part was review board a couple months ago. Tonight we demonstrate forms, perform takedowns on each other, break boards and concrete, perform skits, and I also get to demonstrate sparring. We've been rehearsing for two months and at the end tonight we get our new belt!

It'll be a couple weeks until I get the video, but I'll be sure to post our skit because it is AWESOME. And complete proof I am a nerd.

Okay Negs, now you have me concerned. Those two highlighted lines do not make sense. Are you so excited by this that you've suddenly lost grammatical focus?
For the first line, didn't you mean "was reviewed by the board a couple of months ago"? For the second, didn't you mean "and at the end, by tonight, we get our new belts (<plural)"? How is it that WE can achieve a singular BELT? Is this via shared sparring? You take turns chopping and kicking with a fight partner? That's a new level of martial arts for me. Not unheard of, but, whatever.

Here's to you kicking butt and achieving KARATE greatness! :D

neglet
04-14-2008, 03:59 AM
OMG! I forgot an "s"!! Alert the authorities!

And the testing part is called "review board," and it happened a couple of months ago, so there's nothing wrong in that sentence.

I survived the show with only a giant bruise on my middle finger, sustained when one of the cement slabs I broke hit my poor piggy. But now my belt has two stripes, so you might want to think twice about giving me crap. :D

tstone
04-14-2008, 04:09 AM
Ah, but I now have stripes of my own. Three of them.

04-14-2008, 04:26 AM

tstone
04-14-2008, 05:05 AM
Indeed so. Something tells me we'd be a formidable combined force. Though Jakester might get jealous...

:smirk:

Jakester
04-14-2008, 05:38 AM
Nah, not jealous. Even if you both teamed up, I know you'd still both want me; although since Negs is married, and you're all military, I think the don't ask, don't tell policy applies, so it'll just be our little secret, and all of the public denials just mean that you're trying to mask your true feelings.

I know the score.

omicron
04-14-2008, 05:46 AM
I wouldn't mess with T. I make a point never to mess with people who can carry weapons for a living and can call in artillery support. :)

Traz, you seem to have a problem interpreting subordinate clauses.

I hurt my finger.
When did I hurt my finger?
I hurt my finger during my cement break.
What hit my finger?
I hurt my finger when one of the cement slabs I broke hit my finger. See, I broke it with my palm, and then gravity dropped it on my finger. Ouch. I still can't make a proper fist.
