There were rumors as far back as 2004 about the possible return of Supergirl to the big screen. Even then, they stated a lot would depend on how well Superman does.
Recently, however, this rumor has come up again and it looks like Warner Bros. has a serious interest in it. Mischa Barton (from Fox's The OC) is rumored to be one of the actresses in the running for the lead in that film.

I am not against this. I just hope that if it does happen, Warner Bros. will realize the past mistakes made with the original Supergirl, Catwoman, and Elektra. Just because they're female doesn't mean that they don't have fans. Female action heroes can be successful. Just stay true to the spirit of the source material and don't pretend your audience isn't going to notice if you don't.
