Well, my life is kind of sucking right now.
The public school district I work for is having a budget crisis, and due to a tax levy not passing they have to cut $10 million from the budget. I'm included in those cuts. I've already found a job working for the University of Missouri in a very similar job, but I'll be making about $7000 less (the upside being I still get insurance and I can take classes for only 20% of the cost, so I can get my Masters). The bitch of it is trying to make the transition. New job wants me to start at the end of May. My contract here isn't up until the end of June. I'm trying to get Old job to let me work evenings my last few weeks so that I can get the rest of my salary, but I'm not sure if that's gonna fly (I also have a month's worth of sick days that I can't use and won't get reimbursed for). I'm also gonna hafta move closer to New job because gas is just too damn expensive and current apartment is too expensive on New job salary (I refuse to get a roomate). AARGH!
Oh, and I just found out that my boyfriend has mono. Fantastic.

Sorry about job!
Gratz on new job!
Sorry about salary!
Gratz on getting Masters!
Sorry about moving!
Sorry about mono!
How can they not reimburse you for the sick days? Be sick for the last month, or take vacation or whatever.

My boss is pretty lenient on most things, but she's pretty rigid about not working the system. I can't get reimbursed for sick days unless I'm actually retiring from the district. Plus, if I'm sick more than 5 days I need a doctor's note. :(
Believe me, that was the first idea I came up with.

I think you answered your own question KV.
Boyfriend has mono. IE: if you play your cards right, you too will have mono. It ain't known as the Kissing Disease for no reason. :eyebrow:
Or just make friends with someone in the doctors office, and get them to write a note/slip you some stationary.
Hell, create your own. What's the worse that can happen, they fire you before they get a chance to dismiss you? :p

talk to your doc and get the fuckin' mono.

Sorry to hear about the job & stuff KV. Best wishes for your new place & job.

I'm not sure how they can expect to hold you to a contract through June if they're letting you go ... unless they're just not renewing your contract, in which case you're screwed.
At least you have a new job lined up, and prospects for the future. Sucks to take a pay cut and look for a new place, but hopefully it will all balance in the end, what with the opportunity for more education. Good luck with getting your old boss to let you shift your hours.
And don't get mono on purpose--it is not worth getting the sick time when you feel that awful.

I should have put the 'get' in quotes. ;)

Well, considering that he's unknowingly had it since before spring break back in March, I'm gonna go to the doctor next week and get tested. Maybe I'll get lucky! LOL

Sucks, but I've heard worse, some folks having to hock stuff to buy gas. Now THAT blows.
Hang in there, KV.

Yeah, watch for people stealing your gas too. Beware of the person walking around with gasoline cans and a garden hose.
Sorry to hear of your bad luck. Ditto what Jakester said.
I had mono when I was in highschool. Shit kicked my ass. I was in the hospital for over a week and I lost like fifty pounds.

So apparently today is going to be my last day at my old job. I've been asked by my new job to start on Monday because they've had an unexpectedly heavy workload, and I agreed to. Here's the crazy part though. I have a few unfinished projects at my old job, and since my schedule has always been flexible, I asked them if it would be ok if I just came in in the evenings to get all my work finished. I'd still be getting my hours in, and they would get their work. You'd think that since they were terminating my position anyways, they'd be a little lenient, especially since my last day was going to be June 4th.
Rational and logical, right? Wrong!
My boss and her boss have suddenly become sticklers over every little point, and have said that they can't let me flex my time to the evenings. However, they have said that I could come in on a special payroll to finish the work, which makes absolutely no sense. So I'm thinking of just saying "Cya!" and making today my last day. I'm just tired of them jerking me around. :(

That would qualify as jerking you around, and they do NOT deserve to have you in any way shape or form.
Skeedaddle from there, don't look back.

Special payroll? Is that so they can just flex some administrative muscle and put you in your place, or does special payroll mean less money in your pocket for finishing the work? I don't like the sound of it, I think you're right KV, that does sound like they're jerking you around.
Hope you got a chance to moon 'em before you left.

Well, I started my new job last Saturday with an 8am-10pm multiple college graduation shoot, and my new schedule (at least for the summer) is 7:30am-4pm. In the fall it goes to 8-5. I think I'll like it though, not to mention the fact that I'll be able to go back to school for 75-80% off!
05-21-2008, 12:33 PM
Hell yeah. THat is what I am talking about. The 75-80% off for school.
