Very similar to Waiting For Guffman, though not quite as deep, and as funny only sporadically, yet definitely more offensive in places. Steve Coogan is fantastic, often better than the material. Catherine Keener does well as the wife, a part the plot could have done without. Amy Poehler also does well, but her character's time on-screen is brief and you literally see all of it in the preview. The other actors seem to be having fun, though again the actors for the most part are better than the material. Elizabeth Shue's role as Elizabeth Shue is also one of the high points of the film.
When you do laugh, you laugh loudly, which is nice, and the presentation of the actual play is hysterical. At the end however, I just wanted them to have shown more and gone further. Check it out if you've got a group of friends, some time to kill and want a good laugh (and you've already seen Tropic Thunder).
