Yes. After 12 years without a break, I missed the Oscars COMPLETELY.
It was also the first time I was totally uninterested in watching the show.
I just didn't care. And if I had seen the Oscars, it would just be for the
opening monologue with quipmeister John Stewart.
Other than that, I didn't care.
I went to bed at about 8:30PM totally exhausted from working around the
house and cleaning the van out in preparation for my wife mere days
from delivering our fourth kid. She's HUGE. And due any day now.
Which is nerve-racking because now every time she calls me,
I'm expecting her to tell me her water broke.

So really. No joking around.

How was John Stewart?

Humourous. Witty. Urbane. Not really playing the "triple-threat" showman as Billy Crystal or Steve Martin, but pretty much the same Stewart we've come to know from the Daily Show.

I liked his quip about Russell Crowe.

The real question should be, how about that Salma Hayek!? 40 years old this year and she looks around 24!!

And she's now single again...:eyebrow:

I think I'm in then.

Stewart was dull. He got off some very good lines later in the evening, but his opening monologue was a snoozer. So was most of the show.

I liked him, I think he did look a little uncomfortable out from behind his desk reporting on fake news and political stuff (but he did manage to get some great lines out). The opening bit where they were announcing the host for the evening and finally had to settle with Stewart was pretty funny. Other than that the show was pretty much the same as usual.

The only bit I liked (that seemed completely unscripted) was when he said (paraphrasing):

"Do you think if we all pulled down this giant Oscar statue that democracy would florish in Hollywood?"

That got quite a number of uncomfortable laughs.

Ah c'mon! He had a lot of good lines. "I know for a lot of you this will be the first chance in a long time to actually vote for someone who wins,"

Plus those fake adverts were hilarious.

Yaa, the show was kinda dull. But John Stewart was the only saving grace. I loved the fake PSA's, and he really did have some great one liners. I think no matter who you have host these the crowd is still going to act like they have a collective stick up their asses. Althought now on the boob meter this show registered quite high.

"Schindler's List, Munich. I think I speak for all Jews when I say, 'I can't wait to see what happens to us next!' Trilogy!"

That was funny.

And it was a layup joke, but Bjork not showing up because Cheney shot her in her Oscar gown was also funny.

I never watched the Oscars but I watched it because Stewart was hosting and I thought he was pretty good. He had some good lines and the fake PSAs were really good.
