What the hell is up with Texas?
Neighbors defend man who killed teen over snacks (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,428222,00.html)
I get the whole thing about protecting your property, I really do, but c'mon. You've already got them at gunpoint, does it really need to go further than that? Can't you just call the cops without taking matters into your own hands? Also, how can you argue that he's justified because he thought the kid was lunging at him when the kid was shot in the back at point-blank range? Those logistics don't even add up.
Well, there are those who believe in separation of powers and then there are those who believe that one single man can be police, judge, jury and executioner. Sadly, there are many people who believe the latter. It says a lot about these people's idea of how a society should work.

Well, a little about me before I reply. I'm registered democrat, but I do support the second ammendment. I am a gun owner, and if I felt threatened I would have little hesitation drawing it in hopes of frightening my assailant. Whether I'd consciously pull the trigger is something I hope I never have to find out.
That being said, I'm with King Voyer here. This is totally preposterous. The boys were unarmed and facing man who was (most likely) larger, stronger and carrying a 16-guage shotgun. They were pleading forgiveness for stealing cookies and Twinkies and one of them ends up getting shot in the back at point blank range.
Let me repeat that for emphasis. Point blank range! That's just a little more than from me to my monitor away. From that distance and with the boy's back turned I don't see how it is even conceivable to allege he was lunging at the man who murdered him over cookies and Twinkies.
What is appaling is this man is likely to be acquited. Judging by the response of the local populus (I'm especially disgusted about the comment where someone said the boy got what he deserved. They should be on trial just as much as the other guy) there are going to be 12 people on the jury with like minds that will set this man free and not bat an eye when he kills someone again. I'm appaled this trial is even occuring in the same state.

It's a Tex-Mex thing, with emphasis on the Mex. :ohwell:
Anyone here ever driven in Mexico, know what it's like? Away from the resort destinations...? You like the adventerous feeling that something unexpected, horrific and violent can happen in the blink of an eye?
Not that it WILL, but I recall being within ten feet of a trigger happy cop firing into traffic from a busy bridge onto a busy expressway. And all the other exchanged shots between the cop cars and the car they were chasing.
