Who's your personal favorite X Men comic and / or film character and what qualities do you most admire about the character, compared to the numerous other X Men characters.

Or cite the most eloquent, articulate or even poetic comment/s made about your favorite X Men character, that answers the question.

Storm is my favorite character because of her nobility, powers, and beauty. However, in the movies, they make her character weak and insignificant

Wolverine, always. Because he's a mystery, he's unbreakable, can heal himself, is a great martial artist, he ain't no pretty boy, and he's even hairier than I am.

In the comic Ive always loved Cyclops because I started reading right around the dark Phoenix saga and was really into the comic during the Maddy Pryor years. He always seemed to be coming from the heart and I was peeved when Storm beat him for leadership of the team (with no powers).
In the comic my favorite character is probably Mystique, who is one of my least favorite characters in the comic.
Speaking of which, my least favorite character in the comic is Storm (I didnt read the book during the Maggot and Cecelia Reyes years) and my least favorite in the movie is Storm. Please kill her Mr Singer.

I believe there's already been a post just like this but what the hell-- My favorite X-Men has always been Wolverine. I constantly get in debates with my friend who loves Nightcrawler but I like the awesome powers Wolvie has and all the honor behind him as well as the struggle he has with his animal side.

ive always been split between beast and wolvie. wolvie because he is just plain tough. totaly hard boiled, plus, hey canadians rock!

beast because he almost always has something to say. and his true abilitys have always lied in his mind. he would be bad ass with or without his mutant powers.

also, i would just like to say, storm was my first crush. and seeing her character deminihed to such a level in the movie, breaks my heart, but i got over it after the first one.

Scott and Jean are some of my favorites at this point. (Movie definitely helped me to that point in Jean's case.) Mostly Scott.

I suppose what I like about him comes down to potrayals that point out some of the following things.

He's smart. He's honest, direct, extremely loyal, and sincere in his attachments. He has a wry and sarcastic sense of humor. He tends to surprise people because they like to make assumptions about the way he'll handle things. He's pretty conservative in his approach to people, but hardly a prude (strange combination). He's extremely reserved, but there's an awful lot going on behind the glasses that you won't see if you don't look. And you have to respect what he's done with what he's been given.

He's been through the fire more times than anyone should...orphaned and injured, abandoned, living on the streets, manifesting, living blind, being rescued and rehabilitated to some extent, getting his glasses, finding a mentor, a purpose in life, and his true love, then watching her self-destruct. He's lost all he ever had at one time or another, but he keeps rebuilding his life every time everything goes to pot. That takes an extraordinary kind of courage.

Under other circumstances, he might easily have fallen in with someone like Magneto. Scott is not the kind of idealist Xavier is naturally; he goes on not because he has Xavier's kind of vision or understanding of people, but out of a faith in Xavier's ideals that often seems unjustified. A determination to protect the innocent from baddies on both sides. He makes bad mistakes at times and tries to learn from them. He fields the challenges of leadership, rarely complaining. He doesn't make excuses for expecting the best from people or try to be a friend when he needs to be a leader. He doesn't have extraordinary strength or speed or any skill to protect him but his own wits. But he simply won't quit.

As for Jean, she too is quiet and reserved but has far more going on under the surface. She's essentially the mother of the mansion. She's the one who has to pick up the pieces when things go bad. She constantly fields the challenges of running interference between Scott and Xavier and the rest of the team or students.

She spent her childhood and youth somewhere between sanity and insanity. Then she had to master control of her powers and deal with the constant demands of telepathy--which must be very draining and painful. For some time, she never really felt her powers were all that significant. What an understatement.

She's a driven woman, a genetics expert with an MD. It would be easy for her to try to slip into normality; she knows exactly what she would have to do to avoid suspicion. It would be easy for her to think that she could do more with her scientific background than her activities as an X-woman. But she loves her friends too much to abandon the fight.

But what I really love about Jean is her compassion. She learned it early. Jean is one of the most accepting of the X-Men in almost every way. She has a tremendous capacity for love and forgiveness. And, as we obviously know, she definitely has the greater love that lays down her life for her friends and people she doesn't even know.

cyclops for the same reasons as theheretic stated.

Wolverine has grown on me over the years but i preferred it in clairmounts early years on the title when it was frowned upon to kill and wolverine had to justify himself rather than it just being accepted he killed people.

from what i have read of ultimate x men however wolverine seems very differrent to how he is in normal continuity, would movie or normal wolverine leave cyclops to die just becaause of some girl.

The five original x men will always be favourites of mine, as will their original replacements but cyclops is still far and away the winner.

Mine has always been Mystique. She's cold, sexy, mysterious, manipulative and intelligent. And blue.

She has decades of experience and is skilled in everything possible.

Having read Essential X-Men and especially Giant Size X-Men #1 in there... I would have to say that Nightcrawler is my fave.

I liked the cartoon episodes where he guested... but it always seemed he deserved to be on there and not a guest. I really like that they brought him in on X-Men Evolution from the beginning. In my opinion Nightcrawler is as good as Wolverine when it comes to having a mutant to enter the world with.

The dichotomy of a demon who is very religious just strengthens his place. I love the scenes in the Claremont comcis where Wolverine and NC are drinking buddies, or Piotr and Kurt go on double dates.

Also i think 4 years of German in highschool make him that much more endearing to me. I understand a bit better what he is saying... and credit to the writers of the comics for their inclusion of German. It is also handeld very well in the movie. And Cumming and his dialect coach deserve credit for perfecting his accent... especially while wearing those teeth appliances!

I was very enthused when I heard Cumming was cast in the movie. He seemed to have the charm the character required.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS WITHIN*******

On May 2... I was very plesantly surprised. I had seen a few clips on the net and it showed some of Kurt's scenes... but on the big screen they were... magnificent. Singer nails another casting. I think most of the casting is well done... it just happens to be very difficult to get to everyone in the time they have. I think Halle Berry is a decent Storm... but they just haven't had the time neccessary to delve into her character properly. It would be a shame to recast, but it that's what happens when X3 rolls around, then so be it.

Kurt has some awesome moments in the film. His religious faith with his praying in German as well as English...
Especially when given the quasi eulogy in the X-Jet... it speaks volumes.

Storm seems to quickly take interest in the fuzzy blue devil. Only complaint was he wasn't furry! I would like to see Kurt in X3 spread his faith to Wolverine.... worked well in the cartoon and comics. Maybe he then goes to Japan and meets Mariko.

I think they should play up his power more... how it is painful when he teleports with others... how they are left semi-conscious due to the experience. This is ignored in X-Men Evolution... as well as the film. I think it would benfit the character to show his using his power growing and making it a sacrifice of sorts at first and him gaining strnght and skill as he progresses. They did do a good job showing his fear of teleporting into the unknown.

Kurt's innocence is also captured when he talks to Mystique and afterwards he has that innocent look as he twirls his tail casually behind him. Some people have said they thought he was showing interest in Mystique... I think it's true, but not romantically. I think Kurt senses some kindred spirit in her. Maybe it's the first step in discovering the role she really plays in his life... his mother. Cumming and RR-S seem to want to bring that up later... here's hoping the writers agree.

We do see a bit of mischevious playful Kurt when he waves to the president. That was a neat addition.

Here's hoping for more NC in X3!

Colossus is my favorite. The guy is just too cool for words. For the almost 30 years Colossus was an X-Man he always provided the heavy support like busting a wall down or something. I can't remember which issue, but in X-Men (the second series), the team is going to fight and are dropping out of the Blackbird, while all those who cannot fly are either parachuting or being carried by someone who can, Colossus jumps out, transforms into his steel state, and just falls the thousand feet to the ground where he lands unharmed, still standing.

Storm is the best character ever created IMO. Comic Storm I mean. Not movie Storm. She's a strong, intelligent, angelic woman and the white eyes and white hair just make her look so damn cool. Her power is also one of the strongest mutant powers there is if you think about it but I think usually it's toned down too much. If you watched the cartoon or read the comic, usually all Storm does is shoot some lightening out of her hand. She can do a whole hell of a lot more than that. But I think she's so powerful that creators tone her down to give other X-Men a chance to fight. She could blow Magneto away if she wanted to but that wouldn't let Wolverine wave his prissy blades around.

Wolverine and Cyclops suck. They're so boring. Movie Wolverine is cool though. But comic and movie Cyclops both suck.

Wolverine. He's much more interesting than Storm, he has a clouded past which develops the story, and you just feel for the guy, even when he's slicing you to pieces.

Wolverine, hands down.

Sure, he's tough as nails and hard to beat and has keen senses and is trained in martial arts, he's a rough hairy guy, all that. But that's just icing on the cake. The guy's his own worst enemy. For so long, he's struggled to be more than he is, more than he's thought to be, more than an animal... And yet, sometimes he just submits to his rage and undoes all his efforts. Even in a group of outcasts, he is the odd one out... alienated by not knowing his past. Alienated perhaps moreso by what he does know of his past, and how ugly it's been. Sometimes he might swear to you that he's no better than the baddies the X-Men fight, sometimes it might seem that way... But then someone comes along to show what a good soul he can be. Jubilee. Kitty Pryde. He's been a father to those without one. He's been, for them, what he's never had. Despite wanting with every bone in his body, with every ounce of his heart, to love a woman, he's written a letter giving his blessing and wishing his very best on her wedding day.

Sure, he's been overdone at times and put through some really lame writing and storylines, but that's only because so many people have wanted to capitalize off his popularity, and that of course is because they, too, recognize what a compelling character is. (Ok, well, judging by how some people have written him, maybe some of them just realize how many pick him as their favorite. Some honestly don't know the character very well at all.)

Hands down, he's my favorite. He's proof that the worst in all of us has potential and can strive to become the best.

Actually in an alternate timeline Wolverine & Storm did get together. If you want to look into the reason for his lust for Jean, take a gander at the Origin mini-series. Notice anything about the red-head girl who he took a liking to for such a long time? Who he lost in life and not just in memory.

Even though he wasn't on screen all that much, I really got a kick out of what they did with Colossus. I like the fact that they kind of showed him as a big brother protector of sorts with the kids. I think when the next X film comes out, as I've stated in the other thread ("Cameos"), I believe they are going to expand his role somewhat. I would hope that they will. I like what they did with him, and I'm sure that they WILL be doing even more with that character. It's also going to be interesting what they wind up doing with Pyro. It's apparent that they are setting him up for his joining the Brotherhood of Mutants.

Here are my top three.

1. Wolverine- nuff said he is just the coolest you can't argue against him because everyone likes him.

2. Havok- he just always appealled to me because he was so powerful but easily manipulated it was a check on his powers.

3. Colossus- Him and wolvie (fastball special) that is just sweet.

I think it was meant who were your favorite X-Men from the movie.... but then again, I don't know if Havok WAS somehow cameoed in this one, was he/she? I mean, I know that Colossus was, but was Havok? To be honest, I don't remember the character, what were Havok's mutant powers?

if you read CJ50's original question at the top it says comic and/or film.

havok had similar powers to that of cyclops but he sent his blasts through his hands and he could literally topple a mountain.

Gambit. His style, his history, his everything. He's just that cool.

Hence one of the reasons I want to see him in the movie. Not only that, he has to have a fight with wolverine.

Maybe two...

First fight, maybe in the Danger Room, taking on Wolverine and kicking his ass, then does my favorite line (don't know why, just is)..."Bang your dead." pointing his quarterstaff at Wolvie's head.

Later on, brainwashed, have Wolverine kick Gambit's ass (but only after a really kick ass fight scene). This will of course, make the Wolverine fans more happy. But it has to show them pretty equal in fighting terms.

Also, would like to see them play up his agility. Recently in comics, they seemed to down play it a little. When, while not displayed the same way as Nightcrawler and Spider-Man, is up there with their levels of dexterity.

Basically show him how they showed him back in the day...not like the do now. A bit toned down and everything.

This post explains why my favorites cannot be limited to one but to five:

Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Jean, and Colossus.

The common threads I've always enjoyed were that all of these characters are the opposite of what they appear to be. Also, each has a duality that almost borders on being a paradox.

Wolverine: come on, the animal with more honor and integrity than most "civilzed" people could ever know. He has continuously suffered more loss than anyone but still fights the good fight. He has demonstrated that the animal inside can live alongside the honorable warrior.

Cyclops: as with Logan, he is more than what he appears to be at first glance which is why Logan respects him as much as he does. He is a soldier following Xavier's dream for mutant co-existance. He also knows what is right and wrong and will go against the "orders" if he does not feel right about it. Like Logan, he has suffered an incredible amount of loss and keeps coming back without losing sight of who he is and why he does what he does. He has every reason to hate, but is a person of extreme love and compassion.

Jean: Jean is probably the woman that every man wishes he could be in love with. Passionate, caring, determined, intelligent, strong, compassionate. Her reserved personality masks a very powerful individual. Jean, like many of the X-Men has every reason to hate, yet has showed time and again the ultimate level of love that she possesses and brings out in others.

Nightcrawler: the demonic appearance masking the most angelic soul in the group. Kurt is a man of shadows who lives in the light. Exposed consistantly to hatred he counters with wit, kindness and a fierce loyalty to his friends. Playful and free, yet determined and focused. How can anyone ever dislike this character?

Colossus: the warm and sincere heart of a poet encased in cold, hard steel. Colossus has shown that even the strongest person outside can still have weakness, but the weakness does not have to control you when you have the strength of your friends to aid you. He also has shown that no matter the path you take through life, love never dies.

With characters such as these, it is little wonder that the X-Men have such a strong following.

I'm most like Gambit because he's so laid back and does things on his own terms and like me he listens to no one and only makes decisions for himself. Plus I think causing things to explode is wicked.
