Here's a test of power for you, if Cyclops's Optic Blast and Superman's Heat Vision were to collide head to head, what whould occur? Whould the concussive force of the Optic Blast dissepate the heat beam?
On a related note I read that Scott Summers suffered a head injury while he was a lad and it screwed his ability to control the Optic Blast. Is it the truth? It's the first I've heard of it. I read it in a Marvel vs Capcom 2 faq.
Come to think of it, Cyclops should say 'Optic Blast' every time he does it, just to make it more official http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif
If I had a power I'd sure as hell yell out the name of it every time I used it just like in a beat em up or a Japanese giant robot cartoon.

As far as I know (and I've read synopses rather than investigated the comics myself), Scott, his parents, and his brother Alex (AKA Havok) were taking a trip in his father's vintage plane one day when something hit it, damaging the plane. It was going down, so their mother put the only parachute they had on Scott, had him get a good hold on Alex, and pushed them out the door to try to save them. The parachute caught on fire from the plane, and all we know for certain from there is that the boys were injured on impact. The suspicion is that Scott's mutation manifested for the first time then, helping to decrease their velocity so they wouldn't be killed. Evidently, it went dormant for a while after that. Scott suffered some head trauma and spent a while in a coma. The impact had damaged the centers of his brain that should have controlled his ability, leaving it more or less permanently "on." When he woke, Alex (who was much younger) had already been adopted out and Scott was either not allowed to contact him or told Alex was dead. Scott spent most of the rest of his childhood in an orphanage. Hints are that Sinister got involved at some point during all of this, manipulating things to undermine any lasting attachments Scott might have had with others during that time. Potential adoptive parents were scared off by Scott's headaches and brain damage. At some point, in his late teens, two things happened. (I'm not sure in what order.) Scott's ability reactivated, and he spent a good while blind. He also ran away from the orphanage and fell in with a mutant criminal, helping him out of a kind of sense of obligation until Xavier intervened. They figured out the ruby quartz trick and Scott started in on a new life.
If I'm wrong about any of this, please correct me or provide more details!

Back to the Superman heat vision v.s. Cyclops optic blast question.
I have thought about this question many times befor and in my opinion I think that Cyclops' Optic Blast could over power supes heat vision.

To be honest, I don't think it makes much of a difference, because the Optic Blast would be aimed AT the Man of Steel, and it wouldn't do a THING to him. Supes wins out again! It wouldn't do anything to him, because....... he's SUPERMAN! Makes sense, right?

Aye, it whouln't do a thing to Superman. But the question stands what beam is the whould win?
It's beam vs beam not Cyclops vs Superman after all http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/smile.gif c'mooooon Cyclops!

From what I understand, Cyclops' blast is concussive... Meaning it's more of a "force" than a beam of photons. Supes' heat ray is just that. Regardless, I'm not sure if either would stop they other... They might just shoot each other.

I actually think that Cykes optic blast would phase Supes some. I mean its been said that Cyke can punch a hole through a mountain, so Supes while not defeated, would still get hurt.

the optic blast, if on full blast, would knock supes back a long ways, and most likely the optic blast would stop the heat beams because the blast is full force that's able to punch a whole through a mountain if on full

But the thing is, Superman, with his super powered speed, would dodge, and zig zag the blasts until he got to Cyclope's and kick the shit out of him. I understand what this is supposed to be guys, but let's face it:
SUPERMAN gets too Cyclopes WAY faster than his optic blast can reach Superman.

Just how fast is an optic blast anyway?

I....... WOULDN'T EVEN begin to tell you! But I'm sure it's not fast enough for Supes to be unable to avoid. I mean...... C'MON...... the guy's SUPERMAN!
