Would that he could have been Wolvie, i'm sure he'd have been much better than Hugh Jackman..
I've heard conflicting theories as to why he didnt get the role.
First, he was offered MI:2 at the same time, and he took it (if it's true, then that was a bad choice).
Second, he was injured on the sets of MI:2, and had to drop out of X-Men..
Whatever it may be, it was a damn sad chain of events,,

actually he had to go back and re-shoot a bunch of stuff for m.i.2.
i would have much rather the man who had the role originally glenn danzig, played wolverine. jackman did an amazing job but with danzig it would have been real interesting to see how he would have gone about it.
and for those keeping track danzig had the role first but dropped out to tour instead. but he did give them a song for the soundtrack that never got made.

--Well, he never actually had the role.
He was in negotiations and I believe they offered him the part, but had to decline (you were right about the tour thing) because they wanted him to sign a contract for the first film, 2 sequels and a Wolverine spin-off movie.

I'm glad things worked out how they did. I have not see Scott in anything besides Mission Impossible 2, so I suppose it's not fair to judge his work absed on that (I thought MI2, was terrible)
As for Glenn Danzig all I can say is thank god Conan, the musician did not get the part. I use to be a big fan of his (I still like the first four albums) but the guy is and always was a walking self-parody. I've seen him act in concert, videos, and his cameo in the Prophecy II. If he played Wolverine the character would have not been as cool, he would have been incredibly cheesy.

Danzig is laughable. I don't get what this whole "Henry Rollins, Glen Danzig" thing is with badass Marvel characters. It's like automatically casting wrestlers for physically imposing characters... Case in point with Tyler Mane, you can't underestimate the importance of acting ability. (Don't get me wrong, Tyler did a fair job for what his role was written as, but it was written just as a dumb lug with three speaking parts.)
Dougray Scott is harder to cast aside... I've only seen him in one thing since M:I-2, and I can't even remember the name of it. Sadly, his performance was equally forgettable. And while I haven't watched M:I-2 in ages, IIRC, Scott played typical flat action/spy villian stuff. Not even Bond villian material. But, all that said, at least he's an actor.
But now that I've seen Hugh in the role, I wouldn't want to see him replaced. While he might be a little less country and a lot taller than the comic version, he's got the combination of rage, vulnerability & such down pat. Wouldn't wanna risk an actor (or especially a musician) missing those "notes". http://www.comics2film.com/UBB/tongue.gif

Jackman did a great job.
Couldn't imagine anyone playing the vicious Canuck but him.

What are you freekin high? that would kick so much ass! danzig, hes short, hes buff, he is damn mean! nopw on the acting, i doubt it, but if what was said is true, obviousley brian singer thought he was worthwhile, and he is a dman good judge of character! now dont get me wrong, hugh kicked ass, but for me he was just to tall. Wolvies apeal has always been that he is a sawed off lil runt who will tear your ass up six ways from sunday.

Jackman IS Wolverine, end of story. Just the thought of Danzig in this role is depressing. He may resemble Logan more in pure physical terms but there's no substitute for real acting ability, something Jackman has in spades.

Yeah... Y'know, another reason I wouldn't want anyone else to have played Wolverine, even if they could've done a better job, is that I'd miss not having Jackman's presence in the states. Sure, he hasn't been in much else yet, but he was great in Kate & Leopold, and he seems to have amazingly diverse talents as an actor. That's the type of guy we need more of.

To be fair, no one knows the talent Danzig may or may not have, obviousley if he almost had the part, Singer must have thought him worthwhile. now jackman was good, and i dont think to many other people could do it better, however he just didn't look the part as much as i would have liked. therfore i purpose a salution. I am going to go back in time, and crossbreed the two beings known as Hugh Jackman and Danzig. The talent and grace of the Ausie actor, and the sheer kickassness (shut up it is to a word) of the metal/punk god Danzig. Gentlemen, i Bring you...Jackzig!!!! hmmmmm now what can we do about storm?

the only reson jackman got the part was BECAUSE a musicain turned it down and an actor had to go do another movie. if either of them stuck with the part you would be saying "jackman who??".
anyone, even an ex fan of danzigs, who says he would make a terrible wolverine is an idiot. and you cant even say "limited acting ability" cuz he was in 2 minutes of one fuckin movie!

I believe Danzig was in negotiations before Bryan Singer was even hired as director. He was in talks with Lauren Shuler-Donner (who was producing it), if memory serves me.
point stands, we dont know if Danzig sucks, now i could tell you that rollins would be all wrong for any marvel chartacter, because ive seen him act. and while ive always enjoyed his performances, its because he always simply plays himself. Danzig on the other hand, could be swell. Its a moot point anyhow, because hugh kicked ass, although more so in the second one, I think he needed a little more time to get the character down, but once he did ohhhhhhh man was that freekin great. Although, i do think he resembles the Ultimate version of Wolvie more so than the classic (or is it the other way around?)

I had to look up this Danzig because I've never heard of or seen this guy, ever. After looking at a few pictures of him he does look a lot like Logan (kind of short and buff with a pissed off look) so I can see how he may have been in consideration for the part, but he didn't get it and now Hugh Jackman is on the verge of being a major superstar. I think things worked out well.
