Man....EDGARRRR..... As I was watching that part, I was mildly surprised when I started to cry - and I mean, REALLY cry. I never cried like that for any of the other characters that died (although Teri's death was spoiled for me beforehand so I didn't get a chance to react to it normally). He was the bumbling geek, but a lovable one, with a good heart, which made his death more heart wrenching to see....omigoodness....I started BAWLING in the split second when I realized he was going to die, as he and Chloe stood staring at eachother.

The HORROR! Ahh, straight out of Star Trek II.....Chloe and Edgar, separated by only the glass. The needs of the many......

Too bad Edgar didn't get to say "remember" and transfer his "katra" to someone.

Chloe loved the guy after all.

And no sound of the clock at the end. That always signifies a major moment.

Now that I've had a night's sleep and can react to the rest of the episodes...

Good to see Tony jumping out of bed mere hours after a massive trauma again. I didn't quite catch if he and Robocop are sealed in the same room together in CTU, but that's going to be an interesting confrontation whenever it happens.

I foresee a lot of vendettas happening this season. Jack for Palmer, Tony for Michelle, Chloe for Edgar, Samwise for his sister. Seems like CTU is pretty inept today, Jack's slightly off his game, people are going to have to take the law into their own hands.

Kim's back. I knew it was coming from the moment Jack asked about her in the prequel to this season on the Season 4 DVD set, but I'm still not thrilled. My friend was commenting that probably Edgar was going to bring his pet cougar to work and freak her out, but then...sniff...

Hey look! Her boyfriend/psychologist/whatever is C. Thomas Howell!

We're halfway through, and I have to say this season is shaping into my favorite. I love how things are developing slowly, but still everything is moving fast. We started out with the terrorists just wanting the nerve gas for Russia, but now they're using it on Americans and CTU has been taken out of play. Robocop knows something devastating, and he'll talk, but it's going to take a lot of torture...he's as good as Jack.

Didn't I tell y'all that Lynn's stolen key card would play a key role later on? DAMN! Poor Edgar, never got to unrequite his passion for Chloe. That was a knockout end to a near-perfect double episode. ("Near-perfect" because bringing Kim Bauer back is just useless at this point.)

Still, what did we get in two hours?

--Jack catches up with Henderson and shoots his wife! Damn!
--Curtis saves the hospital! The man!
--Hot Tony wakes up and discovers Michelle is dead. Poor guy. (Lots of emotional content in these two hours.)
--We meet the vice-president, and you know he's a bad guy because HE KILLED LAURA PALMER.

And we're only halfway through the season. I can't wait for the rest of it!

Okay, let's try this again. Last night, I started to post my reactions to the rollercoaster ride of what we saw last night but I couldn't form those thoughts into any coherent form. I was just a tad wee pissed off at how the show ended.

That's the crux on why this show is one of the best products on tv. The fact that it can hit so very close to the audience. The emotional depth to which the writers sucker punch us when we're not expecting that low blow. That is a sign of good writers and a show worth never missing unless under extreme circumstances, ie, you're house is on fire. Oh well, go next door and watch it. Burn baby burn.

Last night was just another example. It starts out with very heartfelt sorrow watching Tony break down.....seeing the photos of his dead wife. Who is there to comfort him but Bill(irony of last year), not Jack. Even with whatever comfort given, Tony is back but missing a piece of his soul in the process. Yet another sacrifice given to being part of CTU LA.

On the whole, that's what this show was all about. Sacrifice. That was pretty much hammered down from Tony to Jack-Kim(relationship is now in pieces) to Chloe-Edgar.

Yes, this is when I got really angry. I teared up as well during the end. The innocence on Edgars face as he ran into the main lobby only to see Chloe & others in the sealed room. He looks for a moment, whispering Chloe and then dies with the same expression that we, the audience, have grown to love about him.

Sacrifice.

We also have to suffer through this in the fact that we have to frequently watch characters we have grown to love on 24 die. The list grows and the writers have no shame about killing off anyone in the name of good stories and great plot devices.

I remember saying during Day 3..."If they kill off Tony or Michelle, I'm not watching the show ever again. Some characters just should not die." Michelle is dead. I'm still watching.

Emotional rollercoaster was what I experienced last night. From sorrow of Tony to adrenaline of Curtis/Bomb climaxing into the grieving of Edgar.

It's shows like last night which remind me that great stories are out there to be told.... That there really is talented people in Hollywood, even if their outnumbered by the morons.

5 BIG stars to the writers of 24.

Well peeps, don't count your chickens before they hatch. I mean, this is TV after all, and how do we actually know Edgar is REALLY dead? I didn't read any articles about this, or see the previews for next week, so I'm assuming there is still a chance Edgar might not be dead. However, I have to believe that given the show's history that he is. I mean the actor has seemed a bit chippy this season in his portrayal, so it could be he was subconsciously telegraphing the fact that he was being written out of the show.

This season is the best I've seen, and I agree that the writing has been truly outstanding.

Nope, I've read/seen interviews with Louis Lombardi saying that he was thrilled with how the character was being written, and that he didn't know Edgar was going to die until he saw the script for that episode. He's dead, folks.

Still, I agree that so far this season tops the previous four, and that's saying something!

this season is fantastic. good to see the writers have great ideas still.

but is it just me, or could the terrorists just do whatever they want during the next episode if no one is there to stop them. and since they were the ones in ctu, they should know now is the time to strike, yet i didnt get a vibe from the preview that the terrorists would be a focus in this ep.

Great episode, but .....

just how easy is it to get into CTU??!! Sheesh - I've seen tougher security at a public library.

And just who do they contract out for their security staffing??? Red-Shirts-R-Us?

In the midst of an ongoing nerve agent threat, not ONE single dose of atropine can be located within the walls of the #1 counter-terrorism agency?? Especially given that the agents are concentrated in the LA area for immediate deployment? Hell, Jack had no problem getting one immediately to save a little girl at a mall.

As with previous seasons, the agents always seem to be placed in front of a building's ventalation fan. I dunno - my first instinct might be to jam/shut-off/crimp/bash/destroy the frigging fan/motor to at least minimize the dispersal.

And last (but not least) who would have ever guessed that Tony and Peter Weller would have wound up in the very same room.....

Oh yeah - Kimberley Bauer - WHY??????? ugh!

Maybe she's scheduled to be part of the body count? We can only hope . . . :)

Well, I finally got to see this. I've been in the midst of moving since the middle of last week, so I wasn't able to sit down and watch this on Monday night. I wish I had been able to because that was a great 2 hours of television. I wish we had more great shows like 24 on tv...or maybe not. Then I'd never get anything done.

I got tears in my eyes and I actually am hurting. Edgar!!

How good is this show?! The first of the 2 episodes was ok, I didn't actually get into this episode as much, not sure why, maybe the american Football style run with the canister at the hospital put me off a little, don't really know, but the last episode was amazing.

What next folks? We know CTU can work through it (remember the bomb?), but what next?

And how long before I forget about Edgar?!?! Next episode he'll be old news.

All I know is Jack will kick some major ass at some point.

Dave.
