Wow. Still Fox can't find a director for X3. Whedon's a no go, now Proyas.

If Fox still wants a teaser by the FF film they need a director soon. My personal thoughts, here would be my top five choices and why:

1. John Ottman. This is assuming, of couse, he isn't with his pal Singer on the "Superman" film. Ottman, I feel, should be the strongest canidate because of his Singer connection. He only has one other directing credit to his name: "Urban Legend 2".

2. Tom DeSanto Another Singer co-conspirator, co-producer of the last two X-Men" films. If he's not involved with "Supeman", it would not surprise me if DeSanto made his directorial debut here.

3. Stuart Baird Seasoned helmed whose previous film was "Star Trek Nemesis". Also helmed "US Marshalls" and "Executive Decision". Before becoming a director, he was a long sought after film editor.

4. Joe Johnston. Of "Jurassic Park 3". "Hildago" and "Rocketeer" fame. Spielberg connections. Underrated director....just like...

5. Kevin Reynolds

6. Hang on to your hats for this one, and hold out an olive branch to...[b] Richard Donner {/b]. Might be involved with "Superman Lives", but only as an exec producer, right? Seeing how he co- produced the last two X films (and also Constantine) ...

Any other thoughts?

If contributing to the thread, keep in mind availability. Director must be around for summer 2005.

I haven't got a suggestion yet, but have a quick point.

Fox needs to get over the Singer-WB deal. I know they are keeping away actors he likes to work with by rushing this into filming.

Why?

There is absolutely no law or rules against Singer directing another picture before coming to X-men 3.

As much as i want to see X3, i would like to see it stay with Singer...cant we wait?

Which is also why, with the eception of Johnston, most of my speculation is based on those who have worked with Singer and/or Patrick Stewart at one time or another. Incidentally, I forgot one.

Christopher McQuarrie.

Personally I think Alfonso Cuaron (Harry Potter 3) is exceptional candidate to take over as the director of X3 and possibily the WOLVERINE spinoff.
He has proven
1.he can handle a big budget fantasy film (with all the special effects and all) without conpromising the plot/story
2.that he can take an existing franchise and pump it full of vigor and vitality, add his own feel to it without losing any of the established style of his predecessor
3.he can bring out and fully develop characters that are already know to the audience

However, I AM starting to think I'd prefer FOX to wait for Singer to complete Superman and return to finish X3, instead of rushing the film to the screen (no script, no director, no stars signed, BUT a rock solid opening date?) and potenially ruining a final chapter of a franshise they took the time to nurture.
