This most recent development jives with what sources are telling us: Dark Phoenix is the big villain in X3. Not the Sentinels, Mr. Sinister, Dr. Bolivar Trask, or the Hellfire Club. We were cautioned, however, that it still doesn't make Famke's character the main story.
Marvel's Avi Arad recently talked to Empire and gave a similar disclaimer. He says, "This is a bigger story. Everybody's expecting Dark Phoenix, but Dark Phoenix would never be the main show. She'll be one of the characters, that's it. There are a lot of stories to tell."
For some reason, I have a feeling that the Shi'ar will be involved in the next movie...it seems big enough to live up to the big story Arad and others have been suggesting...what about everyone else?

that'd be nice, but it'd be too big to do.

Yea it is really big, and I'd honestly rather see Hellfire involved than the Shi'ar, but I think they could tone it down to the marvel movieverse and still make it huge...then again, going with the past, they'll prob just pull out something really obscure again (like Stryker) and make it big.

Man, how cool would it be to see the famous scenes of Wolverine getting destroyed then coming back from the dead, marching through the sewer, and taking out the Hellfire club? That would be gold on film.

If they decide to stay faithful to the original Phoenix story then they'll have the Shi'ar in this one, but the clues given in the second film suggest that it won't happen. Remember Prof X and Jean Grey's dialogue at the beginning and end of the film. They talked about evolution. I think that's how Phoenix will be explained.

My hopes are up! Vinnie Jones is going to be in X3!
While the character he is going to be isn't announced yet (like Mr. Church in Spidey 3) speculation is in the air.
As with Jones' casting, my sucker bet is on one character, and one character only.
Make way for the Juggernaut.

I have a question... I know everyone is always talking about DARK Phoenix being in X3, but why can't just REGULAR Phoenix make an appearance first? Isn't jumping right into the Dark Phoenix saga kinda presumptuous?
I dunno, maybe it's just me...

Vinnie Jones as the Juggernaut! Pretty good casting choice there! I am looking forward to taking a look at the designs for his costume, I believe they are being posted somewhere in today''s news, no? Gotta go to the Front Page stuff! Later dudes (and dudettes)!

Maybe she will be Phoenix for a while, and then become Dark Phoenix. It would make more sense from a story point of view, and for dramatic effect. Everyone thinks she's returned as a heroine, but she turns bad. If she's just bad, she doesn't go on any sort of character journey in the story.

I really am not familiar at all with the "Dark Phoenix" storyline in the first place, but I like the idea that she's coming back as a villain. And WELSHY is right: the storyline has to continue to develop with her where she's not JUST a villain...but rather we should see her somehow evolve into something else..... maybe not come back entirely as a heroinne, but perhaps as an "ANTI-heroinne"! Sort of as a Sub-Mariner-type character: almost to the point of being villainous, but not really. What say you all? Please....SHARE!
I think the "Dark Phoenix" storyline will necessarily include a Phoenix storyline for the purposes of the film. I don't really see there's a major "Phoenix" storyline as such in the X-Men comics. Sure, she might've done some heroic things as Phoenix in the comics for a few issues, but the real story is the change from good to evil, the struggle to maintain her identity, and the sacrifice she makes in the end.

It all sounds good to me, at any rate! I have a feeling that they are going to make this installment in the series just a tad more darker than in the previous 2 X-films. Just the presence of Matthew Vaughn as the director I think will solidify that; he's been involved in some darkly comic films with Guy Ritchie throughout the years, so that's what makes me say that. But since this is a major studio flick, the "powers that be" just might step in and tell him to tone it down a bit.
