I've got an idea for a Batman movie. The premise is Batman is English and Gotham City is an English City. Everything you know is true, except it happened in England. Actually this is just an excuse to do some photo-manips, but I wanna see your cast!
Here's Mine:
Batman: Steven Hartley (The Bill)
Alfred: Anthony Hopkins (The Mask of Zorro)
Jim Gordon: Simon Rouse (The Bill)
The Joker: Alan Rickman (Galaxy Quest)
Ra's Al Ghul: Ian McKellen
Talia: Catherine Zeta Jones.
THERE: That's my all brittish Bat-Cast.

Joker: I'm crazy enough to mess with Batman, but the IRS, Nooooooo thank you!

Alfred's British anyway. He would be played by an American in the British version. I'm thinking Martin Mull.
I always thought Anthony Hopkins would make a great kingdom come batman.

Coincidentily enough...
I think there was a Batman story years ago called Gotham by Gaslight where Batman was trying to hunt down Jack the Ripper

Yes there was. The first Elseworlds book ever, even though it didn't have the logo on the cover.

I can't picture Bruce saying "Joker you Muppet!" otherwords.. I can't picture Batman being English.

Interesting...wasn't the first Batman movie actually shot in London? A lot of those extras were probably Britons.

That's a pretty stereotypical view of the English.
Well I don't know about this guy playing Bruce Wayne/Batman but after watching "The Transporter" Jason Statham is now my new favorite action star.
BTW, isn't Christian Bale English?

I've never heard any English person say "Muppet" unless they were talking about a Jim Henson puppet.

He's Welsh, actually. And another popular "let's see him as Batman" person, Colin Farrell, is Irish.

But, Colin Farrel does a very impressive American accent. Ever notice that? Huh? Huh?

I heard many people could hear his Irish accent in Phone Booth even though he was trying to use a New York accent.

Jason Isaacs or Ralph Fiennes as THE BAT.

I think what was meant was "moppet," an affectionate English term for a young child. Lord knows why Batman would call the Joker one...
As for ethnicities, all residents of the British Isles (English, Scottish, Welsh, Scots-Irish, and residents of the Virgin Islands and Gibraltar) and residents of the former colonies in Australia are ethnically distinct but linguistically homogeneous; as such, it is easy to have, say, an Irish actor play an English character or an English actor to play a New Zealander. All those people are culturally "British" in the same way that New Yorkers, Mississippians, and Californians are all American or Castilians, Basques, Portuguese, Cubans, and Mexicans are all Hispanic.
