Am I the only one that thinks this makes a better premise for a TV series then the Birds of Prey concept and even Smallville? I've seen a lot people on other forums say "Who cares about Bruce Wayne before he was Batman?" but think about all the training in martial arts and all types of sciences he had to undergo to become Batman? For instance, you could base an entire season around him studying martial arts in Japan or China and running into the Yakuza or Triads.

It sounds no better then Smallville or Birds of Prey, or Charmed, or the Gilmore Girls, or Witchblade, or anything else on the WB for that matter.

I think it's a good idea. It would be interesting to see all the things Bruce had to do to become Batman.
The producers of Smallville have been saying that they would like to have Bruce Wayne show up at some point and, if they do things right, I can see a spin off series happening.
If they did do this I think a natural villain for the show would be Ra's al Ghul. Not as a direct enemy though. I see him as more of a shadow character who arranges situations that would force Bruce to become smarter and stronger so that he would someday be a worthy successor.

--In case you weren't aware, before Smallville was even thought of, the producers were working on developing a show called Bruce Wayne. But the big guns didn't like the idea and asked them to do something withSuperman instead. Hence, Smallville was born.

Honestly, I'd rather see a Bruce Wayne show than Smallville. Don't get me wrong, Smallville ain't too bad... but there are so many more possibilities with a young Bruce Wayne.

The Bruce Wayne show has been dead for more than 2 years, and will remain dead. Which is for the best.

Well, I certainly would ahve prefered a Wayne series. Yet I think a major factor was budget. With Smallville you had one main setting, Smallville. The globtrotting adventures and training of Mr. Wayne were likely not as appealing. Bah. Instead of a Bat-Alias we got Super-Dawson's Creek.

They could have done it the way Alias does. I'm sure the cast of Alias doesn't travel to every location the show is set in. But I think instead of a series, why not do 2 hour movies that would be aired every month or so. Or even a mini-series. Has the WB ever had a mini-series? If not, this would be a good first one.

Ok...
No, wait...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahahah... ha... oh, man...
Sorry about that... but that damn JohnJones... you silly chucklehead... what WILL you think of next...
I doubt the idea will be dead forever. Smallvilles popularity may kick WB in the ass and possibly give in and give us what we want to see... Bruce Wayne kicking ass! Yeah!
Or maybe I'm dreaming...

what the hell are they thinking to have a birds of prey series instead of bruce wayne. bruce wayne would be so much better and get higher ratings!
There was supposed to be a Bruce Wayne show but I think it got canned because its premise was too similar to the Year One movie which will never get made. Would it have been better than BOP? Probably. But I still think the Smallville show fits that type of format much better than Bruce Wayne. It would work much better as a movie because no one wants to watch Bruce study martial arts and chemistry year after year but its pretty cool to see Clark discover his new powers...

No, that's not what the Bruce Wayne show was about! It was about after he studied martial arts and chemistry and all that other crap, then returned home to Gotham, and someone is trying to murder him to prevent him from obtaining Wayne Enterprises on his 18th birthday. Or something.

"Gotham City 80614! Bruce and his twin sister Barbara try to adjust to life in a new city with all their disfigured, deranged school mates! Sundays on WB"!
On second thought, I'll take Birds Of Prey...

Over on another thread, I'm currently trying to warm people to my idea of a prequel series called GOTHAM U. It would take place five years before the first BATMAN (1989) and would feature younger versions of many of the movie characters. I've already written a scene for the pilot in my mind featuring a young Bruce Wayne, a young Vicki Vale, a young Selina Kyle, and a young Edward Nygma. Professor Jonathan Crane (also known as "The Scarecrow") has just assigned them to participate in a group project for psychology class. Would anyone besides me be interested in this sort of scenario?

Though it's kinda random, I would like to see them do this. Maybe a little more than 5 years though. Bruce looked like he was 30-35 years old. Maybe more like 10 years. You could also have a younger Harvey Dent practicing law, (not very serious) a wrestling coach nicknamed Bane and his assistant coach Waylon Jones, aka Killer Croc, professor Kirk Langstrom, Manbat, head of the technology department Jervis Tetch, Mad Hatter, professor of psychiatry Harleen Quinnzel, head of the science department Dr. Victor Fries, an aspiring young botanist named Pamela Isley, and one of them class clowns (kinda literally) Jack Napier. Those are my additions to ur list. Thought you may like that.

Oh, and dump Vale. She doesn't nedd to be there. Bruce and her never met before the movies. I can live with Selina being there, but get rid of Vale.

The whole thing is just stupid! Why should all the Bat-characters have gone to school together?! Lame.

Here's how I see it...
Besides the students I just mentioned, Harvey Dent would also be in the class; he'd constantly be flipping a coin to make decisions. Chase Meridian is at the top of the class, although she doesn't exactly dress professionally. Alexander Knox (Robert Wuhl from the first movie) is a reporter on the school paper, while Victor Fries is the creepy bald wallflower who never wears a sweater - even when it is freezing cold. Jonathan Crane is the resident Professor of Psychology, with Jeremiah Arkham as a colleague. And the young, wealthy Max Shreck (from BATMAN RETURNS) is the college's most noteworthy financial backer. The campus football team is called the Knights.
All preexisting characters are played by actors who resemble younger versions of the actors from the movies (Michelle Pfeiffer, Jim Carrey, etc.); I don't know who would play the Scarecrow.

Now, this is just out there, but have Talia as Bruce's love interest and have Ra's Al Ghul as the main benefactor of the school.
I know it's kinda random, but, what can I say, I'm a random guy.

Dear DynamicDude,
I have a favor to ask. I didn't want to steal credit from you, so I'm asking you this. May I attempt to make Gotham U a short(well, probably not so short) story? I would like to tackle this over the summer since I'll have nothing to do. I just wanted to ask you for your permission.
Thanx,

I'm going to discard most, if not all, of the movie ties (I might include Napier). I'm going to use those suggestions I made early on the board. And that's about the long and short of it. Thanx again.

I don't know ... seems like the "superhero in high school/college years" market is already getting saturated. There's already SMALLVILLE (Superman) and this fall there's MERCY REEF (Aquaman), both on the WB/CW network. And Batman already has his revamped BATMAN BEGINS movie franchise and well as the animated THE BATMAN ... hell, i like the Dark Knight as much as the next guy, but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
Although, something like this would be much more appropriate for a similar series (if this "young superhero" genre STILL has to be mined) ...
ROBIN, the series.
